I LOVE that you're being real.. We need more people like you.. Complete transparency. We don't all have immaculate homes, we don't wash counters everyday etc... Thank you, that was refreshing and you now have a new subscriber!
Thank you for the long-term review/update. I find these the most important reviews. It still looks good. My tip- I never use combo products, for example, primer/paint or stain/sealant, etc. I haven’t had good success with those products. To me it’s worth taking the time to do the steps separately. This sill looks good and hope it continues to hold.
I just finished using this product on my primary bath double vanity-10 MINUTES AGO! Excited to enjoy the much needed change. I just SUBSCRIBED!! My next step is to paint vanity. Have you done that yet?
I am so glad I saw your post..i need to do something about my kitchen counter tops that are 20 plus years old. my budget won't handle anything expensive..but..I can do something like this and I feel my kitchen will look much nicer..thanks 😊
You could just go over the counter with a Rustoleum in Satin or Glossy finish. That will protect your countertop really well. It’s a great sealer/topcoat!!
I painted mine black about 10 years ago. It had MANY chipped places. ( I have 4 boys) I would say it was worth it I would not put Marble in the kitchen. It stains , wine will leave rings and a coke can will take the shine off. A friend of mine put it in her kitchen Granite is much more durable. Thank you for the videos 😊
Hey there Bev! Thank you for your review! Thanks so much for watching and your your advice! You're so right and I think we will either do Granite or Quartz, but thats a long way off. Planning to pant some cabinets! ❤️
So happy I found your channel! I've been wanting to paint our countertops and found your video. After looking through your channel, it's so nice to see a family that is trying to live exactly as we are! Excited to see your future videos :)
Only us women would be able to tell you about every since scratch or dent. Lol. Great video. I did watch the first video first. Ha ha. Thumbs up on both! Great job again...
I wouldn’t use the magic erasers unless absolutely necessary. Have you tried just using microfiber cloths with Dawn and vinegar? Or baking soda? Might be easier on the finish. Looks good though, especially since it wasn’t expensive to get what you wanted. Good job 👍😎
Thanks for your video, I've watched the one when you prepared and painted and then this one as you evaluated the long term results. For the ease of application, minimal cost and endurance I'm impressed with your results. I'm going to jump in and do the same to our counters, they are in good repair but the color is green (ugg). I'll let you know my results when I've completed the job.
awesome! yes let me know how it goes! we do have coffee and wine stains, so wipe those up right away! but I think coffee and wine stains marble too ... ive used the magid eraser, it works, but i know those scratch the surface.
Thank you for this video!!! I just painted my countertops in a run down rental, it made such a difference!!! Super excited to tackle the rest of the kitchen!
I finally did this on my rental property’s bathroom countertops! Thax for the great video and your inspiration! The only issue I had was with the roller. It didn’t work well for the bathroom counter tops. I kept seeing cat lick like strips. I had to go over it a couple of times with a Purdy 4 inch dove type roller and it completed the job beautifully. Again thank you!
Always buy a little can or extra spray can of whatever you use in remodeling anything. That way, if you need a touch-up and that color isn't available any more, you're good to go. Keeping an eye on expiration dates of sprays, because they don't spray anymore after a few years.
Thanks for the update. I saw where the same brand paint has an appliance paint touch-up you can get that should work for the scratches. I think I am going to try this appliance paint like you did instead of the counter top paint. Thanks again.
Thanks for chronicling this experience, as I've thought about going this route w my builder-grade counters. When you get to the upgrade time, you might look into quartz, which is pretty, and lower-stress than marble.
Having this on my counter sounds like a dream.. anything is better than what I currently have! My laminate countertop has deep gouges and swollen seams. It frequently stains and is an ugly beige color, which doesn't go with anything in my house. The under side is flaking away because the old dishwasher was installed too far back without waterproofing under the counter so that the steam from the vent actually damaged the exposed particle board of the counter. Replacing the counter isn't something we can do for a few more years, so I'm thinking about putting some aluminum foil tape (just because we have some on hand) on the bottom edge of the counter and sanding and painting the top with rustoleum appliance epoxy to get us by.
Hi Jesi, love that you're making do, and so understand the budget thing. Now, that is an epoxy. Believe it not, similar to auto paint. So, when "Mr. Clean" leaves things dull (I am amazed how such a simple soft sponge can do that, but it has happened to me too) you can likely buff those areas up a little with some simple polishes, like automotive polish.
Question: if auto polish will work to buff out and restore the dull areas, should automotive protectant like the nano tech sprays also work to protect the epoxy (after buffing or even when the paint is first applied and cured)? I love what she did and I am looking at doing my mom's like that too. Just want to find ways to protect it more but within reason
I use their counter top paint 7 months ago no problem with it so far no chips or stains. I did a grayish paint over green I will say my old counter topo were in great condition for 17 years old just wanted and update color and I didn't want to spend a lot of money.
Looks very good for a $40.- countertop. Since you DIY so well, have you looked into an epoxy counter ? One that’s poured onto the counter ? I think you would do an amazing finish with it. 👍
I did that the poured epoxy about 5 years ago and it held up well. It has now turned yellow and spotty and now I will use the epoxy paint until I can really redo the kitchen. I love this stuff. So hopefully it turns out beautiful.
Get a marble cutting board to roll out your bake goods or knead your bread dough. Pro bakers use marble surfaces. I use a marble cutting board I got for a deal at TJMaxx. Love your appraisal of you epoxy counter top. Tile stores will sell you a small piece of finished marble scrap from a big job. Put silicone feet in four corners and will la you have a marble surface for your baking goods then put it away when you are not using it.
Have you considered putting something like a tray, placemat, cutting board or whatever to protect your coffee bar countertop ? If you decided to, could you add another couple of coats to the paint on your counter top?
Please, please, please, look into using the Daich countertop refinishing kit. You can use it over this "can I do it" test and come out with some great results. It's also a paint on process but uses actual stone in the product. It doesn't cost a fortune, require artistic talent (which I have none), and it's resistant to heat and liquids. Oh, and unlike the appliance stuff you used, the Daich product is food safe and doesn't stink.
This is fantastic news!! Thank you so much for watching and sharing!! I will look into it for sure!! I was just speaking to my dad about whether or not I can paint over top this or if I am going to need to sand it first.
@@JesiDavisBuildingaSimplerLife You don't need to sand it off but you definitely need to sand to scuff it up so you can get a mechanical bond. Great job under those humid conditions. Do you think it’s possible to end the job by sanding down the gloss to a satin finish? I love that it’s possible to paint over stains and bumps. Than it really doesn’t matter. Also countertops are going to look used by time and wear. It doesn’t matter that much to me.
I hear that!! so true. ya know, maybe 🤔 thats a good idea, I could just magic erase the entire thing and I would have a matte finish! 😆 I wonder if they have a satin or matte finish clear epoxy?

have you considered a top coat of two part epoxy or Minwax polycrylic? I will be using this paint for a faux marble and have to top coat it with one of these.
Hey Love how it turned out I currently have dark granite and wanted a super shiny finish do you think I could add epoxy as a top coat ? Or something similar for that super shiny look
Thank you for this video and the previous one where you demonstrate applying the paint to the counters. I have laminate counters and there have been sstains on it too. Red wine, curry, coffee, beetroot. I have also dulled certain areas trying to get these stains off however what I've learnt over time is I clean them and soak the area for a while with soapy water and eventually they do go away. You've done a great job and I am looking forward to seeing more of your videos now that I have subscribed. 🤍
Aww yay! Thank you Helen! Glad it was helpful! We are in full swing with the garden right now, but I hope to get to my DIY project I have lined up! 🤣 My daughter has been waiting for us to do her dresser, and her shelf ... 🤦🏼♀️ Welcome! Let me know what you would like to see next.
You do not need a clear on top, this paint is all in one, just do multiple coats and let cure for quite a while! Thanks for watching, be sure to wear your mask!! Let me know how it goes!
Great job! I was wondering if the epoxy appliance paint could be mixed with a tint? I am not much of a white aesthetic gal but I do like affordable. Let me know if anyone has done this and what the result was. Thanks~
and how are those countertops doing in late 2024? are you able to sell home with those countertops, serious question, we have laminate in need of a refresh.
Probably should do 3 coats, it would be a lot thicker as you clean it over the years? Also if it don't say food safe it is not, period dot end of the conversation, so roll dough on top of a big cutting board (what I do), or just a plain board, or a cheap plastic dough roll surface that you can buy.
priming like sanding, they said no, but I wanted to make sure the paint had something to stick to, the paint said it was a primer included so i did not use a primer. I hope that answers your question
I'm glad you did this review. I was curious if it was holding up. Are you planning on doing another coat to get the gloss back or are you leaving it as is?
This is such a good idea. I'm thinking about doing this to my counters but I just have some clear epoxy and some paint. I have been going back and forth with if I should or not. Maybe I will. I need change!!!
Use some folded towels to put pots, pans, mugs, ect. - as added protection. I think no matter what you use, your going to have the same issues your experiencing. The scuffs and scrapes look like nothing a little touch-up epoxy can't handle; I hope you saved some in the can.
Ive been thinking about that .... actually been thinking about going over this this fall and then putting a top coat over it, like an acrylic or something like bar top.
I love your mug! Where did you get it? I'm still thinking about doing my counters cause now they don't go with my new flooring. I might go with a darker epoxy tho. Thank you for doing this video!!
Of course!! 😀 Thank YOU for watching Debbie! I got that mug up in Pottery Town USA Seabrook, NC at a place called McNeils Pottery. I LOVE their stuff! My absolute fav!! ♥️ They might ship 🤔 let me know if you do your counter, I would love to see it! Be encouraged!
Hi. I'm thinking of using this product on my hideous ceramic tile countertops instead of their tub & tile 2 part paint. I'm wondering why you can't just touch up the chipped areas and the spots that lost the gloss using the same paint. Seems like if you can use multiple coats, then you should be able to touch up a small area and have it blend in with the rest. Have you tried that? Thanks!
I'm going to use this to brighten my guest bathroom laminate countertop. It's not very big so I'm thinking a quart will do it but how many coats would you recommend?
Hey there! Thanks for watching! I would do four coats with the last one being thick, you should be able to get that done with one quart, depends on how small. I would love to hear how it goes!! Keep in touch!
@@JesiDavisBuildingaSimplerLife Thank you! I actually ended up doing 4 coats as that is what it took to fully cover. It looks great and exceeded my expectations! I'm thinking of doing my kitchen next!
I wonder if the clorox cleaner with bleach cleaning spray would have worked on the wine spot..... as for the coffee stain (tannic acid) I would have experimented and used baking soda on a damp rag and see if that works to lighten it.
Not soon enough 😀 Our floor is torn up right now, so we've had to switch gears. We were just talking about the backsplash, i think we are going to paint the cabinets before we decide on the backsplah.

Thanks~
Your kitchen paint color is lovely, do you mind to share that name?
Ive been asked this before and I can not find it, it was bought from lowes though, its a real light blue.
and how are those countertops doing in late 2024? are you able to sell home with those countertops, serious question, we have laminate in need of a refresh.
Probably should do 3 coats, it would be a lot thicker as you clean it over the years? Also if it don't say food safe it is not, period dot end of the conversation, so roll dough on top of a big cutting board (what I do), or just a plain board, or a cheap plastic dough roll surface that you can buy.
Yea I have my eye on a marble slab to roll dough on! Thanks for watching!
So helpful! Can't wait to try it.
So glad!
Can you tell me how will this hold up against heat ?
do you think priming is necessary with this paint
priming like sanding, they said no, but I wanted to make sure the paint had something to stick to, the paint said it was a primer included so i did not use a primer. I hope that answers your question
I'm glad you did this review. I was curious if it was holding up. Are you planning on doing another coat to get the gloss back or are you leaving it as is?
Leaving it for now, we have other projects that are of priority. I don’t the areas unless I’m really looking for them.
This is such a good idea. I'm thinking about doing this to my counters but I just have some clear epoxy and some paint. I have been going back and forth with if I should or not. Maybe I will. I need change!!!
@@HomemakingwithHeatherYT you can do it! What’s the worst that could happen!? I did my coffee bar first a week before I did the rest. 😊
👍😁
I do not have the side trim around my bar anymore. Thinking about painting it black.
Oooh that sounds interesting!! Thanks for watching!! ❤️
Use some folded towels to put pots, pans, mugs, ect. - as added protection. I think no matter what you use, your going to have the same issues your experiencing. The scuffs and scrapes look like nothing a little touch-up epoxy can't handle; I hope you saved some in the can.
What about covering the top with clear food grade resin
i think that is a fantastic idea
what do think about putting Bar Top clear coat over your Rust Oleum Appliance paint ??
@@JesiDavisBuildingaSimplerLife Thank you for the info. I will definitely let
you know.
Thanks!
thanks for your comment! There is a touch up bottle i need to grab to do the scratches, I will have to video that when i do it! thanks for watching! 💕
Rustoleum has an appliance brush on prodect to go over scratches and dings
I saw that!! I need to get that!! thanks
Are you still happy with this? I'm debating whether to get new countertops or paint them. Thank you.
Since its epoxy you can buff it to get the shine back, I believe.
maybe get touchup pens you can fill with the appliance paint to refill those chips
@@HealthyandLovingLife awesome!! 😀 if you do the kitchen I have to see before and after!!! Have fun!!
I wonder if the clorox cleaner with bleach cleaning spray would have worked on the wine spot..... as for the coffee stain (tannic acid) I would have experimented and used baking soda on a damp rag and see if that works to lighten it.
How many coats did you do?
i ended up doing four - five
Very good video!
Thanks, I appreciate it
They sell little patch bottles of the paint so the gloss rubbing off can easily be patched. I’m sold.
woohoo
Is it good grade safe?
Its not marked as such, there is debate ...
Thank you
thank YOU!!
Sooo bottom line would you do it again?
yes i would ... and maybe add a top coat of somekind to hold the finish.
When will you finish painting the walls in your kitchen above the counter 🤔 top
Not soon enough 😀 Our floor is torn up right now, so we've had to switch gears. We were just talking about the backsplash, i think we are going to paint the cabinets before we decide on the backsplah.
Could you roll pie dough out?
Magic Erasers are an abrasive
VERY helpful!!
yay thanks!
Can you use cleaners on it? Like 409 or bleach?
Yes you can, just very light being as it super easy to clean. But they have cleaners made just for these countertops.
I wouldn't see why not?! ive used almost everything, but i always rinse the chemicals off.
Wonder if it's tintable
