Loretta was a Country legend! Loretta passed away in 2022 at the age of 90. The autobiographical movie Coal Miners Daughter was nominated for seven academy awards including Best Picture, with the single Oscar going to Sissy Spacek for her portrayal of Loretta. With Loretta’s encouragement, and coaching, Sissy sang all the songs. Excellent movie❤️❤️❤️
I'm 65 . One thing I have learned in over 5 decades of music. is don't close your mind to just one type of music. I learned that every type of music has great songs. If a person only listening to one type of music. They are missing out on so many good songs.
This is her true life story
Makes me so proud to be a Kentuckian!!!
You should listen to Loretta Lynn's cousin, Patty Loveless, sing "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive". She is also from a coal mining family in Eastern Kentucky and like Loretta, she has a powerful voice.
Loretta Lynn is the GOAT!!! She was a very powerful voice for women in the 60s and 70s. You should react to her songs..."You ain't woman enough", "Fist City", "Don't come home a'drinking", "The Pill". She also had a softer side with such hits as "God Bless America again", "Dear Uncle Sam", "Here I am Again". Her whole discography is amazing.
This is Loretta's autobiographical song, she wrote it and sang it because she lived it. She had many more verses but had to cut it down for radio play and recording. Loretta along with Patsy Cline, which if you've never heard Crazy by Patsy Cline, you've missed a life moment, Tammy Wynette, whose most famous song is probably Stand By Your Man, and of course Dolly Parton whose got decades of hits but as you mentioned Whitney Houston, Whitney's most famous song is actually a cover of Dolly's twice to the top of the country charts before that song, I Will Always Love You which Dolly wrote in 1973, and these 4 ladies along with Kitty Wells are probably the short list of pioneering female country singers. There was no autotune, they stood a microphone and were amazing vocalists.
Loretta wrote most of her own songs. She taught herself how to play guitar. She spent her entire career praising and supporting other female country artists.
I read her autobiography and this was one of my favorite stories: In 1972 she was going to receive a Best Female Country award and Charley Pride, a black country singer, was the one presenting the award. She was warned that she shouldn't hug or kiss him when he gave her the award. She wrote “I heard that one girl singer got canceled out down South after giving a little peck to a black friend on television. Well, Charley Pride is one of my favorite people in country music, and I got so mad that when I won, I made sure I gave him a big old hug and a kiss right on camera. You know what? Nobody canceled on me. If they had, fine, I’d have gone home to my babies and canned some string beans and the heck with them all.”
Loretta Lynn was a badass.
Coal Miner's Daughter is the story of Loretta Lynn's life, and also my mother's life. My mother was born in 1943, the youngest of 12 children. Her father also worked for the Van Lear coal mining company. As depicted in the movie of the same name, my mother's childhood home was in a Kentucky "holler" and it was a 2 story tarpaper shack, with gaps in the planking where snow blew in during winter. It's the story of my ancestors, the proud, hardworking Appalachian folks who don't know how to give up. You just keep going on, despite the circumstances.
FIST CITY is next. You'll love it. Guaranteed. Keep going and enjoy
"Coal Miner's Daughter" is a song written and recorded by American singer-songwriter Loretta Lynn. It's a story of Loretta's life growing up.
This song was a huge hit, and made into a Movie. Loretta Lynn was love by millions of people.
This song is a true story about Loretta, she was best friends with the late Patsy Cline even named one of her kids Patsy. If you watch American Idol her granddaughter is on this years show.
Her voice is great but look at that nice thick head of hair she has. She was blessed
Im very eclectic when its to music this song is basically a true story of her life. She is a legend.
If you want to see the sassy side of her you should check out her song " Fist City" you will dig it ✌️
Saw her around 2014 and she still sounded great.
They made a great movie from this in the 80s with SISSY Spacek
Country queen. I watched a special about Loretta once, her old plantation house possibly being haunted. She just sat there with a smile and said, Yes, it was indeed.
I am a coal miners son born in Southeasten Kentucky. Most of my family are still in, "Bloody Breathitt." I was raised in Michigan.
I'm from Lee County VA right next to Harlan KY. It also stretches to Middlesboro KY
She was a tremendous singer-songwriter, the Queen of country for many years. Another singer-songwriter from this era was Marty Robbins. He was the Western side of country-western music,
She's just real and I love anyone who is real! ❤😊 Amd I'm a nyc kid who was not into country as a kid.
sounds like you and Loretta are kindred spirits.
Nebraska, here, and not into Country, either. But I know a legend when I see one. Nice. Great job! 🤘😎👍
So nice. Thanks for your reaction.
❤
You should listen to the song called "LOVE IS THE FOUNDATION" by Loretta Lynn, it's a great country song, glad to see explore or types of music besides metal lot's of really good music to listen to!!
Just a few more amazing old school female country artists that seemed to sing effortlessly and you feel it, are Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and I'll leave it at that for now. Please look into them.
Great reaction Sky. I would suggest you do Dolly Parton singing "I will always love you" (which she is the writer of) do her young and live
I think you will enjoy Hank Williams Jr,Travis Tritt,Pistol Annies are pretty good for a modern country group
Try Loretta Lynn Van Lear Rose and Portland Oregon
❤❤❤
Next up Fist City

If you have listened to much Rock Music, then you have listened to Country Music. Rock Music came from Country, Blues, Jazz, Folk, and probably others.
Try home free man of constant sorrow they use no instruments
maybe let her check out real country legends first, then the pop covers, There are so many legends out there that can sing their own songs way better.
