Sutton Courtenay: An Idyllic English Village || English Countryside Walk

- Sutton Courtenay is a picturesque village in Oxfordshire (formerly in Berkshire) with a long and varied history.
Sutton means 'South Town (ie. Farm)': south of Abingdon that is. The original Saxon village of sunken-floor 'grub-huts' and post built houses was excavated in the 1920s. It was the first Anglo-Saxon village discovered by Archaeologists and dates from the 5th and 6th centuries.
The Domesday Book of 1086 records that King William I (the Conqueror) held the Manor of Sudtone and that it contained three mills, 300 acres of river meadows and extensive woodlands.
All Saints church has notable people buried in the churchyard include UK Prime Minister H. H. Asquith and his second wife Margot Asquith, newspaper owner David Astor and novelist George Orwell (under his real name of Eric Arthur Blair)

I love watching these on Sunday mornings. I was thinking some nice soft music for a background would be great but then I wouldn’t be able to hear nature’s music…all the birds singing/chirping away! Beautiful…just beautiful and peaceful! Thank you…you do have a lovely country!!

I'd unsubscribe if Kevin added music, however subtle is was. Hearing nature's sounds is so much nicer than some added music.
I like that you allow ambient noise. No annoying commentary or music. Another enjoyable video.

The house with a facade with wisteria is lovely.
The red brick of some houses gives a lot of cheerfulness except on the church which it disfigures in my opinion.
That's a shame.

At the start the house on the right with the dog statue above the porch is Helena Bonham carter's house, and Eric Blair (George Orwell) is buried in the church yard just past the George n dragon pub....
Sutton Courtenay - final resting place of a U.K. Prime Minister and the world famous writer Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell). A beautiful village (fast becoming a large town) right on the river Thames.
P.s. the lovely ladies at the church do a delicious cream tea on Sundays in the summer.
