- Join me on this rainy day in the English Village of Buckland, Oxfordshire. A very wet and windy day but beautiful nonetheless. Buckland has lots of pretty stone cottages, many with thatched roofs, about a mile south of the River Thames.
Buckland is a village and large civil parish about 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Faringdon in the Vale of White Horse District.
The present church of St. Mary the Virgin replaced an earlier Saxon church. The nave is 12th century and other parts of the church, including the tower, are 13th century.

What a lovely looking village Buckland is. The residents deserve credit for keeping it well maintained and tidy. Even on a drab day the village looks cheerful, and I think it's because of the lovely Cotswold stone.

Breathtaking beauty. It occurred to me while watching this that the people of England are masters of respecting tradition while simultaneously maintaining an optimism for the future. I'd like to think that Americans inherited this from (at least in my case) from our ancestral home. The uglier side of our national personality we picked up elsewhere. Was Buckland College a part of Oxford University or a separate entity?
