40 years ago the two words were taught differently. People would say that sympathy is when you understand their dilemna, empathy is suffering along with someone.
This is what I loved about studying Anthropology, and studying abroad. You get the advantage, from a young age, of seeing just how much the average American's day to day life (a series of actions and thoughts that is rarely if ever questioned) is a series of programmed routines and assumptions. Understanding *that* freed me to consider a vast realm of perspectives and ways of being that otherwise, I almost certainly would've never had reason to consider.
Excellent! So much more could be talked about this. Reminds me of an adage: Seek first to understand and then to be understood.

@jerryork Is that a fact? If so, than no. If no, then yes. This is a self-defeating statement. Sounds eloquent and elegant but when you apply the statement to itself, it defeats itself. I am referring to the first part only. I do agree with the perspective vs. perception lesson,.

You have switch the definitions of empathy and sympathy. Empathy is defined as having a greater depth of feeling than sympathy.
He did not use the terms incorrectly. He got them right. From Webster's: Sympathy (which comes from the Greek sym, meaning "together," and pathos, referring to feelings or emotion) is used when one person shares the feelings of another; an example is when one experiences sadness when someone close is experiencing grief or loss. Empathy is also related to pathos. It differs from sympathy in carrying an implication of greater emotional distance. With empathy, you can imagine or understand how someone might feel, without necessarily having those feelings yourself.

When you use perspective you see all of the ways to be perceptive. Perspective is like astrology and the angle and compartmentalizing, and the perception is the accumulation of bits and is like magic to do gathering for doing particular shuffling of space.

Please do more of these things because there are people that maybe they don’t have $1 million but they’re generally good people who want to improve their lives and this type of content can really help them in a lot of different aspects

I heard someone like Andrew use the phrase 'God perspective' all the time. What if someone is looking over your shoulder to see what you are perceiving? Now take that idea and keep moving back...what would the person see looking over the first observers shoulder? And the next...till you get to that God perspective.
It is an interesting thought experiment, especially if you can do it in real time when you talking to someone.
It is also humorous to me how many people missed your message and got hung up on simply switching empathy and sympathy around.

Perception is intrinsically based on a point of observation which inherently means that the point of observation isn't anywhere else.
Perspective is the observation effect applied to all points which is impossible to achieve perfectly but it becomes exponentially more useful the better we each get at it.

I wish I understood this when I was younger.
Dang I just bought a car and thought I was in control, I told my friend that was with me that I was in charge. I negotiated the out the door price before I got there, via text. It took him 1 day to find my car. They didn’t even waste their time to try and up sell me. He probably was in charge and I just thought I was, lol! But I did get exactly what I wanted and for a fair but not great price.

'Inhabiting the person in the sales room from their point of view' yes. reminds me a lot of what I describe about the potential of artificial intelligence generated remote viewing (& ai generated biometrics-).. id imagine you guys would be really skilled at using this if we were to all employ more perspective in information generation and gathering in these ways That is why I throw out there possibility of 'downloading maps' holographic maps from each other using advanced photonics our becoming ubiquitous enough to inhabit the now as the past and future via biometric read outs and passive wave sensors so that we can read simulations of perspectives from the future (disease fighting & we all have diseases)
Not trying to be pedantic, but one's own perspective is by definition the same as one's own perception. So they can be the same. I guess ultimately it depends on what we mean by "perspective," because it can have more than one meaning depending on context.
Did you not watch the entire video? He started defining perspective when we understood the salesman's disposition. So it was not about our perspective, but about the other person's perspective. So when we get out of our own perception of our situation and look to someone else's perspective, then we are gaining true insight and we thus have the advantage since most people stay in their own perception and navigate through life from that.
Another example might help. Say you went to a car dealership late in the day and somehow you could tell the salesman maybe did not sell many cars that day and was desperate to sell something. Either you are very good at reading people's emotions or they had some sort of sales board for the salesmen and you observed he was not doing well. This means we left our own desires about the vehicle we want(perception/reality) into a place of understanding the person we are interacting with(perspective). Now we can use this to modify our approach with the salesman and thus we have an advantage outside of our generic idea of what a salesman is, our own emotions, what kind of color car we want, etc... I believe people switch back and forth with doing this throughout their daily life but don't realize when they do or do not. But if we are aware of this phenomenon, then now we can control when we should turn on our perceptive minds to use it for our advantage.
Well, that explains sympathetic magic, as within so without as above, so below.

Interesting... I wonder how a conversation would go between 2 individuals who live their life in perspective.
Where does personal experience or just plain experience come in with this? Is saying from my perspective not from that person's point of view? Perception seems to be the assumption appearing real when it's not. I guess then their perspective is them being in observance of the other person. < That's an artist observing a subject. Perspective is enough knowledge and skill ( experience) to paint the canvas. Perception seems outward, perspective seems inward. Hard to ignore the perceive in it. People will also tell you about you, from their perspective as if they've been observing you from a ledge, but it's really a perception. < They perceived you and now they have perspective? Nah son. like half full, half empty. Did someone pour halfway, or did someone drink half? The cell phone thing is weird cause people think I'm on my phone a lot, but I'm not. They usually see a moment in time and run with it. When I bring up their version of it, then they switch shoes.

Empathy is sympathy with the attachment of a shared experience.
Both are ways of trying to understand how a person feels. One is more authentic.
Empathy is perceived when you and a friend lose a parent. However, you may not know that your friend actually hated their parent. So now even though you think you’re being empathetic you can only be sympathetic. Sympathy is a lower form of understanding than empathy. And I find it odd that everyone wants to be empathetic about everything…it’s a wild misconception. That would mean you share horrible experiences along with everyone else. That’s ridiculous…most of the time people think they’re being empathetic they’re being sympathetic. And it’s even still a long shot. How are we to assume that our interpretation of the same kind of event resonates with another’s interpretation? It’s rather absurd to assume your subjective reality is so powerful that it must be everyone else’s. Imagine being that narcissistic?
Mmmmm. Well, the kind of mirror in a police station is a 2-way mirror. It allows for reflection on one side (like a regular mirror) and the ability to see through, FROM the other side. Basically, you can see something, from both sides. Also, he has sympathy and empathy switched around. Look at the Latin bases. Sympathy is a feeling of compassion or sorrow for what someone is going through. Empathy is "putting yourself in their shoes." You feel with and for them, because you've been through the same thing.

I recommend renaking this video so it completes in five minutes and correct your definition of empathy and sympathy because you got it exactly backwards. you can look up author and scientist Brené Brown she does an excellent job of explaining the difference

Actually. You get what you get. Your mum gave up her body time breast. I like your mums idea of love. When you have a baby no matter what that child does the love is still there. Secrets are ok. Lying by omission is human. You probably don’t understand levels of love. Perhaps your mum knew who you were and that’s why the love was as it was. Walk a mile in the shoes. Just because you choose to raise your children a certain way does not mean they with have appreciation for your philosophy. She was from a different time you will be from a different time. Even the most innocuous event can be deemed a mistake. Above all this is a philosophy that you chose your parents previously because of karma even the Japanese have a word for karma. So what philosophy are you coming from? Everything is perfect.

I've been too empathetic my whole life.
It definitely helps train this difference in perception vs perspective.
Once you grow up and know how to feel less in certain moments you figure it out.
At first you might feel a regret for the lack of emotion, but once you get over that you realize it doesn't matter.
Especially in sales, if you love what you sell you can say that a married couple walked in arguing about not being upsold but imagine how less you'd argue with heated seats 😂
