The bottom line? BELIEF is a powerful thing- it is the SINGLE most powerful thing that determines what we will experience in our existence! What we believe, we receive! Four simple words that say it all! Well Done!

Belief is both good and bad. We rely on it because we aren't able to absorb or have access to all truths or information. Therefore, one has to naturally believe something to be true or false. That is a part of life. We learn mostly through observation and allowing the mind to synthesize and then determine a fair conclusion, not a bias conclusion. However, most are trending at believing in something first, then finding reasons to reinforce this belief. There is this attitude in culture, "I said it, therefore it must be true." Don't laugh, people do use it to create their world between their ears and its not hard to do yourself if you live within these social cultures. On the good side, belief is important because when you believe in something nobody else does, you create the light bulb, an EV car when it's not practical, the personal computer which was thought of as a fad, the Internet, code and yes even the phone app. The best way to improve your beliefs is to find more time for isolation, research things, don't allow others to intervene and work on the power of objectivity. If you search for the truth you will believe it because humans instinctively know the truth, they just need to acknowledge it. Everyone responds to life differently. Head in the sand belief is rampant, but if you enjoy being by yourself, you can find greater belief in things which are actually true, rather than things you simply wish to be the truth. Good Luck!

Almost! You can't escape your desire to have other people around you as you are not a solitary species. Which complicates things now you have to understand other people to get what you want not just yourself then you have to understand how you and another interact in order to keep others around you so you can be comfortable even happy. Her speech is really inspiring. However, it's easy to say you need to surround yourself by positive people but in reality it's very hard when your family members are negative. I have my parents who takes care of me but their belief system is external. They don't believe that they have the power to change the situation & always blame on fortune for any bad situation. They impose their beliefs on me & always crash my emotions unintentionally. I can't stay positive or try new things because they think I can't do anything even though I proved that I can do my best & try not to make any mistakes. I'm so disappointed rtn & i want to make them positive but every time I failed. Now I'm gradually becoming like them because everybody surrounding me is very negative.

there will come a time, very soon when you will choose everyone in your life. now that you are aware of positive and negative influence - you can choose carefully and wisely. just know that your parents are helping from where they are, doing the best they can based on their knowledge - soon you will do the same, do the best you can based on your knowledge

This is quite similar to why I am searching for locus of control videos. I know a very sheltered person who is suffering due to mindset, while living with family.
You can't control the external factors & need to learn that you cannot change (or maybe even influence) them. Shifting your mindset to the things you CAN control can increase your peace, progress & happiness. Your hobbies, your fitness routine, your clean room, hygiene, etc. Be the you that you want to be, regardless of your settings.
Sorry not to go more in depth, this isn't the video I need for the kid. GL

We need to find our "flow"! This would move our locus of control both internally & globally. As One we will create the grassroots power of the masses being in control!! Groovism is the belief in the power of our instinct of music. Belief in the power of music wil proliferate us!!!

Hmm, I would think a better thing to say to a child is, you figured it out vs you are hard working. Why? Because it could instill that in order to get anything, you have to work hard at it. That is a belief that can work against you vs. I find solutions easily.

Okay, I mean, how is their treatment different than watching a motivational video? If they're pretty much the same than the locus of control shift is temporary. Secondly, sure she's right, belief and placebo work exactly the way she described, I even have examples from my own life, however i can't MAKE myself believe something OR make placebo work intentionally, that's kind of the point of a placebo is that you don't know that it isn't an actual medication.
Fine speach, I'm just at a loss on how to apply the lessons shared here (except the ones that you should encourage others, that works well).

What is belief but understanding or certainty. Both can be gained. And many times we believe something that isn't true. So even proof isn't required. Maybe it's all subject to perception, which we know is malleable.

Theoretical perspectives are the basic assumptions about how society functions, the role of sociology, and the application of a specific set theories in studying social life.
-- Society is a unified whole that seeks equilibrium
-- Society is composed of groups competing for scare resources
-- Social life can be measured through observing daily interactions
-- Sociology should be used to enact social change

Should I write down things I believe to be about myself and write them down everyday? My mind is in constant rumination of every horrible thing anyone has said about me and it’s become my reality, but it’s not me. I know me, I’m a loving person but it’s not coming off that way anymore. I used to love and laugh, but got tired of being used. I now would rather be used than keep continuing to fight back against peoples opinion of me bc it’s exhausting and doesn’t deserve my energy.

Interesting concept, but to me it's a form of ignorance. That's not to say I reject what she's saying as I see it as useful but that it's incomplete.
For example, she was in control of the bottle flip, yet the external world determined how much water she needed, how she needed to flip it and even that she could learn to flip it (if we count the brain as external due to it being outside of conscious awareness) therefore the locus of control is not on only one side. The reason I think it's an ignorance therefore is because we would need to ignore the fact these external factors controlled what we COULD do in order to think of ourselves as in control. Still, the findings of this idea are worth consideration. I propose an alternative.
Instead of looking at locus of control, what about belief in ones capacity to either achieve a result or learn to achieve it? It's incredibly similar to locus of control but it's not about who's in control, it's about whether you feel there is or isn't the possibility there. If you feel there isn't, why bother? If you feel there is, why not bother? I feel this would help you be more inclusive in your view of the world whilst retaining the sense of determination or motivation that an internal locus of control would give you.
Maybe I'm just saying the same thing as locus of control but to me this idea feels better.

    • @RickysGarageVibes
      @RickysGarageVibes 5 лет назад +6

You stated - possible, then try or not possible, don't bother. Her views on LOC is not about total control it is about the spectrum of personal actions influencing outcomes. The external worlds influence on the bottle would be the same whether she attempted to flip the bottle or not. She believed that she could improve her chances by understanding the physics and practice (internal) vs luck try once and see (external). She's proposing that there are many more opportunities to see that our influence on outcome is possible (internal focus) despite being conditioned/admonished/influenced to believe that we can't impact the outcome (external focus). She is stating you can make this shift in 4 mins through positive videos/visualizations, awareness, belief in your influence, encouragement, practice, etc.

I have similar concerns. Modern philosophy has a strong case about free will being just an illusion. See e.g. Daniel D. Dennett or Sam Harris. So they are basically saying that ultimately everything is just good or bad luck. I have embraced this way of thinking and, for example, deduced that pride is pure vanity and even feel an urge to correct people who "feel proud" for some of their achievement.
On the other hand, I'm aware of the evolutionary benefits of the illusion of free will. Fatalists tend to die without offspring.
I'm still working on reconciling these two (probable) facts. I have some progress, but mostly nothing of gut-feeling-grade speed or simplicity. For me, watching some random 4 minute motivational video is tiring because it raises arguments and counter arguments about its validity and about optimal levels of hypnosis.
