      @@TheTalkingCornerno, I agree. It’s the romance that I actually had zero problems with aside for the jarring DC fan mindset of Zatanna being younger and going for Robin as opposed to Batman. But it has the least development and spotlight, which ironically worked in its favor for season 1. M’gann and Conner never really felt engaging for me, but I think that has more to do with Conner’s characterization. And Wally and Artemis felt a little contrived to me. I think with Dick and Z, and Wally and Artemis, not skipping 5 years would’ve made things feel a lot better. WHY did Z and Dick break up? How did Wally and Artemis get to the point of being as lovey dovey as they are? That time skip really hurt things.

      2 has the first signs of some of the problems of 3-4. I gave 2 a massive pass when I watched it on tv, because a lot of shit I love from DC showed up (nightwing, Tim drake, Static, deathstroke). But the timeskip really hurt the show in ways that became more apparent with each following season.

      Yeah that seems to be the common consensus. There are parts of season 2 I like, and also don't like. @TheTalkingCorner  6 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah I have mixed feelings about season 2, and mostly negative feelings about season 3/4, which is why I really didn't mention them.
      The biggest appeal for season 1 (for me at least) is the youthful energy of everything, the positive (if slightly angsty) depiction of growing up, and the high optimism for the future.
      The later season feels like writing a hyper dark version of a fairy tale. I don't hate the idea of the story maturing with its characters, but jumping 5 years ahead feels so abrupt and too different.

    • @adamconway6101
      @adamconway6101 6 месяцев назад

      @@TheTalkingCorner honestly the timeskip is a cop out.
      Like sure you can say the realationships aren't peak but the fight between Superboy and Miss Martian over her misuse of her powers would be interesting. So would seeing why Wally wants to retire from superheroics or Robin becoming Nightwing or several other ideas the show says happened but would have made for interesting storytelling.
      The timeskips are at best to give us twists with little justification or at worst to say we werent up for writing that scene so we didnt.
      Season 2 has 5 years and squanders it.
      Season 3 has 2 years, and pretty much couldve taken place a few months after season 2.
      And season 4 feels like the most direct continuation of a previous season with a year.
      There are other reasons why the cracks show but the timeskips are a big one

      Personally I really liked season 2, wasn’t a fan of season 3, and haven’t watched season 4. I just felt cheated by season 3. There were still more things that I wanted to see from the core cast, and I was disappointed that they introduced an entirely new set of characters and storylines. I suppose it was better watching the writers struggle with new characters than watching totally butcher the characters we know and love so much.

    • @TheTalkingCorner
      @TheTalkingCorner  6 месяцев назад

      @@jakeschafer250
      Yeah I don't really know why they didn't just continue developing the core cast. There's definitely enough depth and lore for each of these characters to get 4 seasons worth of development. Not saying they can't introduce new characters, but they should still balance out new characters with returning characters (season 2 did this a lot better than season 3)

    • @TheTalkingCorner
      @TheTalkingCorner  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@adamconway6101
      Yeah I think they wanted the time skip to surprise people and allow them to start the story in a kind of En Medias Res. Start season 2 with all the beloved characters in new places, and slowly reveal how they got there. Actually that isn't too different from season 1, except it's of course very different to INTRODUCE a character than it is to reintroduce them.
      Again, it just felt too abrupt and toneily different. M'gan going from a scarred, but upbeat, giddy-to-prove-herself teenager to a quasi murderer just feels weird.

    The first season is spectacular, and I love every character and wish we got more time with them pre skip. When season 2 Invasion aired, everyone including myself were upset about the time skip, and as a kid I only really enjoyed when the original team was on screen or Blue Beatle and Impulse, and wasn't to fond of the story. But when I rewatched it a while ago, I loved it and it's actually almost as good as season 1, I now even like the story more in Invasion (not by much) but the first season's characterization is just so much better and it's because of the core cast. The original team steal the show every time in Invasion, especially Dick, Wally, and Kaldur. _I love Dick._ I also love the scene Connor where finds out about Kaldur going under cover and the respect he shows to Dick, even if he's pissed at him. Connor has grown so much and it never feels out of place despite him being the hot head in season 1 that blew a fuse every time he had a chance. I didn't mean to focus on Invasion when the video is about Season 1, but I at least kept it to talking about the characters from season 1.
    I'd need to rewatch season 3, I remember being neutral negative for most of it. And season 4 just kinda sucks, 3 was edgy but 4 would make hot topic cringe. When *you know* died so did the heart of character interactions, and the show as a whole.

    • @TheTalkingCorner
      @TheTalkingCorner  6 месяцев назад

      Yeah I agree with a lot of what you said about S2, though in my mind I'd still say season 1's story has the edge. I'm just really partial to a simple, character driven story and season 1 has more of that.

    • @SuperladCK94
      @SuperladCK94 4 месяца назад

      @@TheTalkingCorner there's also this one problem with season 2 before the death of Wally West.
      Conner Kent says subtly why he broke up with Miss Martian. She mind-graped him. Then he gets villified for having a good reason and is forced to get back together with him by another Ilanna Strange of all people effectively saying "alien girls will be alien girls, they only meddle with clone boys they like." Then even further when Conner has good reasons for calling things off in season 3, Miss Martian again says "but I thought we..." and gets forced to get back together and marry with her because they're supposedly the Clois of the Team when they're not. Conner had very good reasons for no...even knowing how she goes beyond just regular sibling banter with both Malefic and BB into torture...to the point that she will even try to secretly make missions easier for BB's new team of Outsiders by posing as a civillian on Batman's orders instead of letting them do things in their own way and their own time without Batman, Kaldur, Nightwing and her all still thinking of the Outsiders as a bunch of sidekicks. Isn't that funny how the show always seems to say this same thing the comics like saying nowadays?
      That thing being "They're only right if they have some form of a Bat-symbol on their chest or if they're willing to admit Bat-superiority."
      Literally every time a point was brought up by Wally, Conner or Gar they all got told "what do you know, you're just kids" even though Wally could have easily said to Grayson "yeah, but I'm older than you, just because you suited up before most of us, doesn't mean you know better." Conner about wanted to say this too.

    Good video. Only small issue I have is... Batman is not the leader of the Justice League in YJ. Superman is the Main leader while Batman and Wonder Woman lead sections. You can even tell with their zeta tube code numbers. Batman is 02. Wonder Woman is 03. Superman is 01.
    Batman runs a lot of the day to day stuff since Supe is saving major world issues. Think of Superman as the owner of the company and Batman as the CEO. Batman is up there, but not the ultimate leader.

      Well it depends on the season who leads too.
      The Designations for the OG7 is just how the league came together to fight the Appellaxians as they did in thw silver age.
      Season 1 Superman was the leader.
      Season 2 Batman was in charge.
      Season 3 was Co-Chair Diana and Aquaman (Kaldur)
      Season 4 has Black Lightning in charge following his promotion at the end of Season 3.
      I would presume that during the gap between season 2 and 3 Martian Manhunter was in charge, and Hal and Barry each got a turn between the events of season 1 and 2, with it also being implied that between the League's founding and the events of season 1 that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman (Arthur) all shared the responsibility because they're Super Friends.
