Thanks a lot for the Video and step by step instructions.
I did the repair on my 2013 RX350 m. The only difference was that the air bags have three pins which you need to move with the screw driver.
The other issue I fell into was removing the bottom bolt which hits into the brake pedal, for that I just remove the brake pedal 14mm bolt and slid it aside, made my life a lot easier!!
Overall a good video! My main issue was column noise and stiff steering. I did not replace the whole column, just replaced the 10$ damper between the motor and gear. That did the trick!
Steering is softer and no noise!
Thanks a lot for the Video!!

GREAT video, really helps! Just another tip how to avoid the no start condition after swapping is to simply swap over the steering lock modules. This module is paired to the vehicle so the ECU needs to see the original module on the network . Simply drill out the 2 shear bolts and remove BOTH lock modules. Install the original module on the new column with 2 new shear bolts, part # 45897-12020. Saves having to disassemble the columns!

I have a 2010 RX350 and have had the steering column rattle for several years. After talking to a Lexus dealer and other repair shops, I saw your video and decided to make the repair. It took a while to find a 2015 column in my area and also finding a shop that would install this. ( It’s my wife’s car and gets used almost every day, so I wanted minimal down time and me being 70 I didn’t want to take on this project). We ended up using just the lower half as the wiring for the steering wheel controls were different. It all worked out great. No more rattling noise!! After looking and taking apart the old bottom half I think the noise was coming from the shaft at the power steering pump (the large round unit at the bottom of the column ) , as that was loose. I don’t believe it was the two motors that adjust the steering wheel (up-down and in-out) as I was told by the Lexus Dealer. Anyway, I want to say thanks for this video, as it was a huge help in repairing my Lexus!!

Thank you for this information . I was able to fix my RX350 2013 using this method but the only thing in my case was the DAMPER, ELECTRIC POWER STEERING MOTOR SHAFT .
Tip if that’s your issue you don’t need to take apart the wheel just the bottom section and bring down the whole thing to have access to to the damper , replace it and put everything back . Trust me is easier and faster .

This is the repair I think I need to do(just the damper). Are you saying you don't have to take the steering wheel off completely or take the shaft out? Is it just removing all the plastic and stuff to be able to see the power steering motor and then replace the damper? Thanks.

  • @abayyegemberdiyev8391

I encountered a problem with the steering column locking after the two parts separated. This happened because the pin inside the main tube of the steering column popped out, preventing me from inserting either the old or new steering gear as the column was locked. I couldn't manually push the pin back in, and I couldn't remove the Actuator Locker either.
Here's what I did: I connected the two parts together, but there was a gap due to the locker pin blocking them from fully connecting. Then, I plugged in all the clips, turned on the engine for 5 minutes, turned it off, and disconnected the accumulator wires. After that, I unplugged all the clips and removed the steering wheel column, only to find that the Actuator had become unlocked.
It was a terrible feeling facing this issue, and I almost thought that if my last attempt didn't work, I would have to call for a tow. Thankfully, it worked out in the end.

I got it done but it took two days. I had to carve a notch in one of the steering lock grooves that took all night manually. Then i lowered the "old part" onto the "new part" and tried to align the locking tooth(main problem) with the carved groove i made. There seems to be space for a certain tool but i took the caveman approach.

another issue was putting the fixed steering column back on. It was heavy and hard to position. Aim to place the two 12mm main bolts on the steering column first, then the steering knuckle while holding up the weight of the steering column to avoid breaking the 12mm bolts, and finally the long bolt in the back with pressing the brake method.
