I went to see Suzanne Vega live in October 2008 and she started her set with this gem which is one of my favorite songs from her. I also had the chance to meet her after the show and to chat with her for 5-10 minutes. Unforgettable memory!
i'm so happy! i've been trying to remember this song for AGES, longer than a year and i found an old CD..I'M SO HAPPY. ive not heard this since i was like..5. its very emotional,haha.. THANKS SO MUCH:'}
Who needs booty shakes and million-dollar music videos? All you need is a stirring melody and great prose to write a beautiful song that stands the test of time. Thanks for this upload. Held me in your handsome fist... who writes stuff like this anymore? Lovely..
I hope people don't jump on me for this, but IMHO, this is one of the very few lyrical numbers that can be called "New Age" and also "Music Forward." There other nice and cool lyrics (e.g. Enya), but none that really hit the mark like Suzanne Vega with Marlene.
Hi my name is Howard Phillip Coe. It's now coming to the end of the 100th year anniversary of the first world war I like this song very much. I'm sorry for my name it is actually my name. Thank you.
To be honest, I absolutely loath most of Vega's stuff for being far too whiny for my taste. This song, though, I simply can't get enough of. It's just so catchy...

Remembering hearing on FM Dubai during the 80s. Forty years hence in 2022, enjoying even more when following the lyrics.
this record deserves bigger publicity, heavily underrated
Many don't understand.
