This is one of my favorite Suzanne Vega songs! It's just beautiful! I could listen to it over and over again! It's impossible for me to listen to it without hitting "replay" when it's finished!

I was fortunate enough to see Suzanne perform live twice, and she has a really good rapport with her audience. And, yes you're right, she has a way of captivating her audience that you probably could hear that metaphorical pin drop.
listening to this song after so many years.. brings me back to days of pain.. when i had no clarity in life.. when i was free and yet so bothered by existance.. this song deeply stirs my emotions.. thank you. 🙏
@@pearlharbour3300 now, i am older and have a wider perspective of the past. yes, this song still stirs up memories and emotions, but like when you smell something that reminds you of your mother's cooking. It's there, but as a faded memory.. an old stain.. a sense of something i forgot.

I remember hearing this on an eclectic-album formatted radio station out of suburban Baltimore (the old WGRX) in 1985. With all the hype over top-40 in those days, that station was about the only place you could find quality music.
I found another video of this song a few minutes ago that was quite good but I like this version better b/c it's more the 'speed' of the one on her CD. It's a beautiful song and this is a beautiful video! Wonderfully done!

She is cold against his skin.. he is perfectly reflected. He is a monster and she leaves herself and becomes him so she can't be hurt. But her imagination/ fantasy shatters and she starts falling down the stairs- her fantasy escape cannnot be maintained... she awakes and feels the pain but then regains her mental fortitude and imagines skipping down the sidewalk while he continues handling her. The violence is finally ended.. she is again alone .... then is shatteted into pieces when reality hits her. the black eye... ( fact: panda eye occurs from repeated violent penetration) and red claw hands on her face. She is bleeding. She ages in captivity .... imagines she is free in nature in sunlight ... but another evil monster comes and the escape fantasy begins again.. she is like a small blue thing... a marble unseen... no voice or body ..... no way out Could I be way off base and this song is about an organism as you say .... but I can't get myself to see it your way.... i see no love- no emotional connection - no hint of the slightest enjoyment when 2 bodies are shown. The only time sunshine and rapture and color are shown is when she is alone.... I definately would not have interpreted this spell binding song this way 3 years ago. But I've been red pilled ... 8 million children are abducted every year.... Special ops are destroying DUMBS.... rescuing the children... the world is being freed from the cabal/ global elites and this evil will never happen again. I wonder if you know what I am talking about....... so many are asleep and blind but hopefully not for long....maybe you are one of us who are awake and waiting for this war to be over... No commenter here sees the darkness I do. .. who knows... I wish I didn't see what I do in this song.

I have always loved this song and I found the video very intriguing. But the printed lyrics are very distracting. I found myself wanting to focus on the images but constantly twarted. Susan has never had a problem with making her lyrics clearly understood so I feel the video would work much better without them.I question that the images here are so beautiful. For me the song has always spoken about some one in love with an abusive partner. I don't see that kind of pain reflected here.
