Nightcall’ feels like the soundtrack to a dream you don’t want to wake up from. It’s dark, it’s hypnotic, and it hits you with this eerie nostalgia, like you’re reliving a memory from the future. Kavinsky perfectly captures that late-night vibe where you’re driving alone, city lights reflecting in your eyes, and the world feels both distant and right within your grasp. It’s not just a song-it’s a whole vibe
Two of the best lines in this song is, “I’m gonna show you where it’s dark, but have no fear.” And “I’m gonna tell you something you don’t want to hear.”

I'm a truck driver and this is one of my top tracks for my night drives. 2am, middle of nowhere, anywhere in the country; every turn and length of road is undiscovered as I've never driven them before. Yet the realization of 80,000 pounds at 70 mph running off the road, down a hill, or into an obstacle, could come in the fraction of a second. And no one will experience it but me, in that moment. It's haunting but beautiful.
Truck driving is somethign I would like to try sometime on my life, but with todas cost of truck licenses and all the ther things that come with it,I mightnot have a chance if i want to pursue life of an engineer :D
The most beautiful (and lasting) art, always appears quite simple. Straightforward. But underneath, it's complex, layered, meticulously thought out. This song is a gem because it combines disparate parts: themes of a retro horror flick, poppy lyrics, the syrupy sweet duo of male & female voices, and dystopian synthetic instrumentals. It's beautifully disarming. Speaks to the age old fascination of light amidst darkness, of life meeting death, of deep love bordering violence. Like a robot singing a love song it composed, so simple, almost juvenile. Like a ghost who wants to speak and struggles with a keyboard; having forgotten words and how to write.
Imagine not remembering the lyrics, or the title, or the beat, but remembering how much you loved this song. That was me for the past 5 years, but I've found again
@@codyb.3015 he probably meant that thats a masterpiece by saying "art" i mean you're not wrong cody but that movie maybe a "piece of art" but its definitely not creative and the vibe is just too weak to call it art

Before providing the vocals for the chorus, Lovefoxxx says she was given the following backstory by Kavinsky: "The man you loved died in a car accident in 1984, and now decades later, you're married and with a family, but unhappy. One night, you receive a call, and it's him on the phone". So she tried to impart that kind of emotion into the lyrics
This song fits perfectly with a man starting his life, overcoming a tragedy, solving a problem, redeeming himself and/or being happy after going through a lot.

I love this song, it gets there, right on the spot of my lonely heart, right to the left of my hearth, all I hear is the music and visions of my life suffering and getting up again and again after being knocked down. Cause I refuse to give up. I'm tired but I can't stop now, my ancestors are watching, I hear the old gods watching.
Guys guys I found out the concept behind the album and it's brilliant-- its about a dj who dies in the 1980s and is revived as a zombie in 2006. He doesn't know what to do with his afterlife so he just goes back to work mixing music for the now 2000s tech clubs, and everyone notices his style is really nostalgic (because he's writing what is technically authentic 80s music). I think this song is the part where he explains whats going on to someone. It's trippy and I definitely recommend 👍 I'm going through the album slowly, a song or two at a time, like a bag of milano cookies lol
Came across my radio when I was on the highway driving at 2am so I had to turn it up...funny thing is I have a 2013 silver chevy impala,so it's perfect
In case anyone was wondering about the meaning behind the lyrics, here's a great one that I found on SongMeanings. If you listen to all the previous EPs by Kavinsky, and observe the recurring themes, you'll see that they all tell a story, with each EP representing a different chapter in the story: In "Teddy Boy", the main character (the guy on the album cover art) has a car crash and dies in the hospital but comes back as a ghostly phantom driver. In "1986", he is haunting the highways and reminiscing on what happened to him in the moments leading up to and immediately after the crash In "Nightcall" it seems as though he's trying to get in touch with someone in his former life, whom he loved, but never had the courage to tell her. He wants her to ride with him so she can experience all the things he's experienced since he died. And he's telling her not to be afraid. "I'm giving you a night call to tell you how I feel I want to drive you through the night, down the hills I'm gonna tell you something you don't want to hear I'm gonna show you where it's dark, but have no fear" This girl can tell something strange is happening because of the way he sounds, the news reports covering the crash and the sightings of the mysterious "ghost car". Hence the lyrics: "There's something inside you It's hard to explain They're talking about you boy But you're still the same" She's seen the news coverage of the crash and the police footage of the "ghost car" that is haunting the highways. She knows he's supposed to be dead but here he is on the phone with her. She can tell he's changed by the way he's talking. He sounds ghostly, depressed, electrified even. But despite how inhuman he sounds she can't help but feel like he's still the same person he was before he died. So she just might ride with him. Given the dark/sombre and haunting sound of the song, you can also interpret this song being about depression, how it slowly reduces us to a shell of our former selfs; a phantom driving aimlessly on a highway to their personal hell, struggling to open up to those we love.
Dude… wasn’t ready for this heavy ass comment, but it’s appreciated. I love it. Thank you. I analyzed the album from Andrew Bayer “in my las life” in a similar regard. Heck yes

Oh, no. No, no. It's about this guy. This guy that "...doesn't carry a gun, he drives." And, because he drives people in his life (and that he meets) attempt to use his driving for their own personal and financial gain (or debt). But, nefarious deals, and untrustworthy characters turn what should be a simple job into a job gone very wrong and the driver has to get himself out of a sticky and life threatening situation. Oh, and he falls in love too, blah blah blah, but it' s a sweet part of the storyline. the entire soundtrack is just amazing. In case anyone was wondering about the meaning behind the lyrics, here's a great one that I found on SongMeanings. If you listen to all the previous EPs by Kavinsky, and observe the recurring themes, you'll see that they all tell a story, with each EP representing a different chapter in the story:
In "Teddy Boy", the main character (the guy on the album cover art) has a car crash and dies in the hospital but comes back as a ghostly phantom driver.
In "1986", he is haunting the highways and reminiscing on what happened to him in the moments leading up to and immediately after the crash
In "Nightcall" it seems as though he's trying to get in touch with someone in his former life, whom he loved, but never had the courage to tell her. He wants her to ride with him so she can experience all the things he's experienced since he died. And he's telling her not to be afraid.
"I'm giving you a night call to tell you how I feel
I want to drive you through the night, down the hills
I'm gonna tell you something you don't want to hear
I'm gonna show you where it's dark, but have no fear"
This girl can tell something strange is happening because of the way he sounds, the news reports covering the crash and the sightings of the mysterious "ghost car". Hence the lyrics:
"There's something inside you
It's hard to explain
They're talking about you boy
But you're still the same"
She's seen the news coverage of the crash and the police footage of the "ghost car" that is haunting the highways.
She knows he's supposed to be dead but here he is on the phone with her. She can tell he's changed by the way he's talking. He sounds ghostly, depressed, electrified even. But despite how inhuman he sounds she can't help but feel like he's still the same person he was before he died. So she just might ride with him.
Given the dark/sombre and haunting sound of the song, you can also interpret this song being about depression, how it slowly reduces us to a shell of our former selfs; a phantom driving aimlessly on a highway to their personal hell, struggling to open up to those we love.
interesting
That is awesome

@@EDOMANGO No, I'm sorry I fibbed. This song was in Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. The scene I described, where Ryan Gosling fought the super aggressive newer model Replicant, was from Blade Runner 2047, in which Ryan Gosling, a member of the oppressed under class works from within that system to try and make progress against the current ruling class. Oh, no.
