You are right, I listen to Suzanne's songs almost everyday. Particularly her older stuff from the 80's. I especially love her new "Close Up" 4 cd collection, which are new stripped back acoustic versions of all her best songs from the 80's up to more recent stuff. She is a truly talented artist who deserves more recognition.
Camila Fonseca I was fortunate to see Suzanne perform over here in the UK twice. She is truly a wonderfully gifted artist, and has a great rapport with her audience. I particularly like her witty little anecdotes between the songs, as she relates to the audience how her songs come to fruition. I have to admit though, that I am not to keen on the new album, and the direction she has taken. But, having said, I still love her older stuff, up to and including her previous album "Beauty & Crime" an album about her life and experiences living in New York.
Camila Fonseca I totally agree with your comments, she has this way of connecting with the audience in such a way, that you feel she's singing to you personally.
Pat Spriggs I was lucky enough to have seen her "live" twice. Once in 2005, and again in 2010. Her shows were mesmerising, she is such a wonderfully talented artist and musician. I particularly loved the way she connects with her audience. And, I also liked the witty anecdotes before each song, as she recounts to the audience how each song came to be.
I first heard it in 1987, then heard her in Berkeley. Thirty years later, I heard her perform the same in Boston, in 2017. Her voice is deeper and slower. The songs are still the timeless gems she first recorded.
Night Vision has always been a favourite of mine. The song has a haunting melody to it. I have video of her playing this song live on a Swedish tv show. Before singing the song Suzanne recounts how the song is about a person trying to find his/her way in a world that seems filled with darkness. The depressed person can have this distorted view of the world. I can totally relate to this song
Many thanks for the beautiful photos. They go along well with this very delicate and almost magic song. Whenever I hear it I get almost physically immobilised by its beauty and serenity (goose bumps all around). It's one of the seven most captivating melodies I've ever heard. Got it on the album, back in the LP days. It still impresses me wildly. Thank you, Suzanne Vega.
This song reminds me of my chilhood, I used to be scared of darkness as many other little ones. How can we teach our children not to fear darkness? Is it too difficult to understand that those shadows are just the opposite side of light? I think we should start to find beauty in those things our eyes are not sometimes able to see.
one of the most beautiful songs ive ever heard. i remixed this into house once about 10-12 years ago and it was one of the best things ive ever done.. this truly is magic!!!! my wife just found her music today too so i had to listen to this again..
@beerbu "Ironbound Fancy Poultry", yet another of the gems on this album. Listening to it now. It's more than amazing, a musical short story formidable of its own. :-) Of course, it doesn't hold a candle to "Night Vision", with all of _its_ quiet and heartfelt drama. ;-)
They ring true, so I thought I had to get it out of me. And, lacking an official video to this hauting song, your beautiful slideshow is a very worthwhile ersatz.
Before There Was Even "Alternative Music" S.Vega Was Already There With Songs So Deep & Uncommon Lyrics That Just seems To Transport You Elsewhere...Somewhere Where Euphoria & Somber Melacholia Converge In rythmic Harmony.
@iamwoodenhorse Your photos are simple, no-fuss photos, kept in line with the lyrical themes, and in black-and-white - most often (up until the end) - which ring true to the delicate qualities of the song. They enhance my appreciation of "Night Vision" even more. :-)
@beerbu Yes, that was a very productive period of my life as a music consumer. Saw videos from her first two album on TV, saw a concert (also on TV), bought both albums, heard "Night Vision". And got hooked. Eternally.
Please try to listen to this song on vinyl if you can. It sounds so much more realistic, it's scary. When she says "blind faith", you can feel the wetness in her teeth. Yes, a little gross, but unbelievably real.
Where are the photos from ? One in particular is the one at 1:10 , what is that from and where is it ? Terrific placement of B&W photography along with a perfect song, the tone is nailed. Well done.
@beerbu ...
Suzanne is a brilliant poet. She modeled herself after Leonard Cohen. The difference is she can sing! Sorry, I love Cohen's poetry but he doesn't have the best singing voice you will ever hear
The influences are mainly Cohen, Reed, and Dylan. Half-spoken, half-sung, philosophical, involved yet detached. Interestingly, all three named gentlemen are (were) Jewish, while Vega is a Buddhist.
the lyrics are incomplete. The table, the guitar, the empty glass, but she forgot to mention the empty liquor bottle. It exposes the whole truth of the piece.
Her music is timeless. You can listen to her songs over and over again. That's the quality of a true artist. "Night Vision" always hypnotizes me.

Just listened to this song with my eyes closed after two decades- still so very moving... I do love this album.
It's been 30 years since I listened to the album. But I can still sing every word with. That's how impressive the songs are & Suzanne off course...
I first heard it in 1987, then heard her in Berkeley. Thirty years later, I heard her perform the same in Boston, in 2017. Her voice is deeper and slower. The songs are still the timeless gems she first recorded.
One of my most favorite songs for literally the past 28 years.
This song never gonna be old
This song always brings a tear or two to my eyes. Since 1987, beautiful song.Beautiful Suzanne. She's such a gifted writer.
Hauntingly beautiful. Helped me study for exams in college. Much respect.

Gorgeous song, one of the best on the album
That time there was no RUclips or Napster and I didn‘t know most of the songs. I bought the cassette in confidence. And the whole album was beautiful.
I listened to this album at three years old and understood every word of the lyrics.
I want this song to be remembered as my fav at my funeral, A beautiful poem and anthem for life.
Love u❤

I love this song too. It's my favourite SV song. I hope she would sing it in her next concert in Singapore
Love this song..

Just magnificent.
simply amazing, and SO Suzanne-like are your photos, they complement each other perfectly... Thank you so much, you are a true artist.
Always been a favourite since the 'Solitude Standing' album was released in 1987,and she sang this song as an encore (in Sheffield) on that U.K. tour.
Haunting....Beautiful...Tragic. I would love to hear Suzanne do a cover of The Bangles' song "Following"
+Nanoforge1 yes! though I'll always like their own version.
+saltwater_neptune Me too!
My favorite song for a solid two months now
There is nobody quite like Suzanne Vega . A uniquely talented and gifted artist .
These days will never come back.
