I did this yesterday January 10, 2021! I am 67-year-old woman Who is terrified of heights and decided I wanted to do something adventurous before I die. It was terrifying and I almost quit but I pushed on through and I am so glad I did. It was spectacular and it was sort of a metaphor for life. “Feel the fear and do it anyway“
I am so proud of you for pushing yourself both physically and mentally and not letting your fears win! We are all capable of so much more than we think we are. I am turning 55 tomorrow and my husband and I are going to Zion in 1 month and this is definitely something that I want to do. He wants no part of it, but I am going regardless, because I don't want to live the rest of my life in fear and not experiencing challenges in this life. If people are just smart and not stupid, this is a hike that is doable. Thanks for sharing your story and for inspiring me that this is one more thing I can do!!!!

Hey guys! Just saying that although this trail irl is nerve wracking, wide-angle cameras make the trail look WAY steeper/narrow then it actually is. In reality, as long as you keep your cool and don’t freak out, it’s absolutely do-able. Sometimes kids even do it.
I did Angels Landing a couple weeks ago, and agree with this. Provided that hikers stay mindful of their surroundings and where their feet are planted, the trail isn't too risky. Biggest risk IMO isn't falling off a cliff, but suffering a leg injury by stepping on the wrong spot during one of the steeper sections.
For a naturally fear-averse person like myself - naw, the wide-angle lens was exactly how it felt. Probably not actually how it is, but it's how it felt.

Well I can't say I went super early, but I think 1990 was early enough ; ). The road inside the park was open back then (no buses). I recall driving my motorcycle all the way to the parking area for The Narrows trailhead. There was so many cool trails and rock formations to see and the colors changed many times from pre-dawn to sunrise, morning, midday, late afternoon, dusk, sunrise, and twilight. But for me, Angel's Landing and the Narrows were my two favorites. I went back several times in the 90' and saw the rise of the crowds. Will I go for one more visit someday? idk. There's new places on my list I'd like to see first before tourist crowds degrade the natural wonder. I have some of the Pacific Crest Trails to explore still and I'd like to hike the Te Araroa in New Zealand. We'll see, but it's still about the journey, not the destination.
I hiked that trail yesterday for the first time in my life. Still cannot believe I did it. The feeling is unbelievable. I was scared of course, but it was worth the efforts. Thanks for this video. Just did Angel's Landing last week and I only remember part of it, probably due to never looking up from my feet and adrenaline.
Exactly! I never dared to look up from my feet during the whole chains section. I have never focused so much ever in my life lol. Did it today on Christmas!
I’ve had the great fortune of hiking this twice in my life: once before kids, and then 20 years later with my kids. It’s tough, scary, but totally worth it! The view from the top is beautiful and humbling. The whole park is one of my favorites!

This hike is NOT as scary as many people make it. It DOES have several dangerous dropoffs that are fatal if you fall, but you have to actually make an effort to get close to the edge to be in any REAL danger. I remember most of the chain parts being okay but there is one part at the top past the chains where you're just scrambling up the side of the rock. Coming back down you're headed directly toward the drop and if you misstep there it feels like you can build up enough momentum to slide off the edge. When I went I wasn't prepared for hiking so I had these really cheap walking shoes and I was literally down on my butt moving an inch at a time until I got down to the ledge where the path started. That was over 10 years ago and to this day I'm amazed I made it up there and back in one piece.
If you want a safer hike with a better view do the Observation Point hike. It's 8 miles round trip but 700 feet higher than Angels Landing and the view is breathtaking.
I can tell you, this fish eye lens makes it scarier then it is. I'm afraid of heights and yes some bits were a bit scary, but it was the most epic thing I've ever did in my life! :)
For me, it was waaaay scarier than it looked here, tbh. There were times when I just had to crouch down and not move, looking only at the rock under me, until the people coming down had passed and I could keep going up. Man, was this a tough thing for me. I don't struggle with a fear of heights specifically, but just fear in general. This was a huge step for me, and I'm SO glad I did it, buuuut... I doubt I'm ever doing it again. :) Well, maybe.
True. Wide angle lenses (like that of GoPro) make things looks smaller and farther away, make trail bike rides look faster, and yes, make trails look narrower. STILL, not for everyone.
Made this hike last spring. I am terrified of heights so I was basically shaking the whole time! The terrain is relatively easy and I'd say 75% of the hike isn't scary but there and are plenty of areas where one slip in the wrong spot mean you are done for! No fences or rains only a loose chain to hold on to.
Suki Mongoljav the funny thing is that there is no kid there. Everyone in this time stamp is an adult. I’m still trying to figure out who this kid is he’s talking about.
OK you know that guy that was at the top laying flat on his stomach with his fingers deeply enbedded in the rock and sobbing uncontrollably out of blood curdling fear? That was me.
First time I went I cried and turned back quick at the scary part, second time I went I sobbed in sheer terror as I was yelled to the top by a jerk. This hike is no joke
Thank you, I have attempted this hike twice but just could not get passed the third set of chains. My fear of heights combined with the impatient people who were taking huge risks made my say it was not worth watching someone die.
I am enjoying the comments about this... especially the one about missing your brother and finding him at Starbucks 😄 I did this trail with a 12 year old who had a poor sense of balance due to ear problems... THAT was nerve-wracking, but well worth it, and he thought so, too. (He has gotten over his ear and balance problems and now teaches rock climbing.) Yes, the wide angle lens DOES exaggerate the narrowness of the trail, but it IS usually narrower than 5 feet, with some sections substantially under 3 feet wide, with over 1000 feet straight down on both sides. As is hinted at by the views from the top of Angel's Landing, ALL OF ZION NATIONAL PARK should be on your bucket list... even if Angel's Landing isn't!😀 It's my favorite National Park (so far!).
Haha I just had a dream where I was driving my car in some faraway land and got stuck somewhere, then I had to walk on a ledge high up like this. Then I found this girl and she told me that it wasn't stable but I said "yeah duh but do I have a choice?" And then I kept going and fell down the cliff and for about five seconds I was free falling and then woke up.
Actually you will kids are most adventurous than adults, at that age you don't worry about the consequences. There's many things I would not consider doing now, which I did as a kid.
I wouldn't want my 13 year old daughter to do this because half the time she can't seem to walk and chew gum at the same time. And if someone is coming down and someone is going up the same trail, who gives, who has the right away. As a parent, no, I wouldn't want my child do this hike.
I just hiked Angel's Landing a week ago and have to say the videos with mega wide angle lenses make it look crazy. This hike is not bad at all. It's amazing, great view, but nothing to be scared of.
Bobby Beck ..so you liked it, without the bad music! Thks for telling us about your experience there! Been there a few times, & like the canyons & it's majesty, along the Virgin River! Thanks!
definitely worth the trip! Zion National Park is a national treasure. The shuttle services in the park are world class and the locals are friendly. It took me about 3.5 hours to hike all the way to the top of Angels Landing (I'm in relatively good shape), felt like Rocky once at the top. They also have The Narrows hike, which is why I'll be going back soon since the weather didn't permit. *Travel tip* Spend the least amount of money on hotels/lodges because you're more than likely to be out and about.
I was about 12 when i did this hike, im watching it now at 15 and I remember every last bit of it, i see all the comments saying “i would never do this” and its incredible knowing that I accomplished this at such a young age, it is truly life-changing!
Finished this hike today! Honestly looks a lot scarier in videos than in real life. Wasn’t as bad as I was expecting but still a fairly difficult hike!
i have been to 42 states of the USA so far and hiked and have been too almost all of the national parks of those states and i have to say that i did this when i was 11 and no trail tops this one. It is stunning the whole and it feels like your climbing a juggle gym. Highly recommend
Big props to you..I so wish I didn't have the severe vertigo I have. My daughter lives in SLC and has said she has seen more than one person frozen on the ledges, unable to move. I wouldn't have even sniffed the final ascent up the ridge.
I’m so glad there are videos like this. I can get the feel with none of the danger. I could never do this hike. I’m way too afraid of heights. But, spectacular views! Thanks for letting me experience it!
Have good shoes with good treads. Leave the backpacks back at the start of the chains. If you have problems with heights or lack confidence in your balance - DO NOT go on this hike. There are many ways to prove your worth beyond climbing up a trail.
Major respect to anyone with the composure to do this hike. I'm certain I'd have a heart attack. Frankly, just watching the video was more than enough for me!
Wow, this brings back memories, one of the best hikes ever ... I hiked this trail 13 years ago with my late hubby. At first I was too scared and decided to sit out at Scout Lookout and waited for him to go up and come back. But pride kicked in and I started climbing up too. Once I was on the trail following the chain, it was not that scary anymore, except for 1 section at 0:40 - 0:50 in the video. This part of the trail narrows to less than 2 feet in width, with sheer vertical drops on either sides so you feel very exposed walking across it!
I was here in 1976, when there were very few people, and several times since. You can never describe this so thanks for the great film.. Best hike in America!
Went there few weeks ago. Hiked up to the middle. Stopped at where the poles and chains are. Hopping to go back there again with proper footwear! So do your research before going! Location is beautiful! The landscape is very refreshing. Also there's a bathroom in the middle for those that need it but the smell is something from another world 😂😂
Guys and gals.. I knocked out this hike yesterday.. 08/17/20 .. Yes its open and yes YOU CAN DO IT !! If I can anyone can .. not scary as the video makes it seem... go super early to avoid crowds.. wear good sturdy hiking shoes.... have a full battery for pics.. no big backpack.. and a victory beer or joint .. or both lol... everyone is very patient if u are slow .. go slow ..take your time . And have strong wrists.... enjoy the view and the hike ... worth it. . Promise me!! - your fellow hiker !
Great video. Well done. Some commenters are saying the wide angle lens makes it look scarier than it is. I disagree. Other videos done with phones or GoPros flatten it, and make it look LESS scary than it is. I felt this one captures just how incredibly high and precarious it is. I did the hike a few weeks ago, and this video represents how it looked me. It was a fantastic experience. Worst part was passing other inexperienced hikers.
It looks way scarier on this video than in real life. I’m 14 and I found this hike very easy and I’m not a sporty person at all. It was a great experience and I recommend you to do it!!!
I just did this hike, and i’m a little afraid of heights, and I guarantee you that you will be freaking out if you’re deathly afraid. the good news is, you can still do the hike and make it to a tall overview point before the chains which is basically just the same view but obviously less elevation. it’s beautiful and worth it. i recommend going on the hike and if you are wanting to do the chains then go and do them!! I warn you though, if you don’t go EARLY in the morning, there’s LOADS of people, making it harder to get down, and less chain space to hold onto. I’d get to the park at 6:00-6:45 and there’s parking and shuttles :)
Nah man it’s pretty scary. As a 14 year old I don’t think you can really comprehend the magnitude of standing 2 feet away from a 100% death drop. I did it as well but downplaying it is not what I would be doing. Still is an incredible hike and I’m proud of you for doing it! Keep exploring!
As someone with an intense fear of heights I still recommend it to everyone bc it really helped me get over my fear and gave my anxiety disorder a little slap to the face. I am also 14
I've hiked it. If it's windy, don't make the attempt. If it's wet, don't do it. Go slowly. Don't try to see how close to the edge you can get. Make sure your shoes fit well. Pay attention every second. If you heed this advice, you have a high chance of being ok.
Thank you for sharing, I always wondered what it looked like a top of angels landing. Wow, how beautiful. Very breathtaking and very beautiful and amazing. Thank's again. 😀😀😀😀
I live "near by" and have attempted Angel's Landing a couple of times; last time was at the end of Winter maybe 8-9 years ago and gave up when the last cabled section was solid ice-and there were people scrambling up! A less intense Zion hike-and there are many-is right at the entrance, Scenic Overlook. Some nice sheer drops, but nothing like Angel.
Hiked this about 5 years back. It was one of the most amazing hiking experiences I've had. It's listed as one of the hikes you have to do before you die, so get out there and do it!
I did this hike years ago; Angels Landing is the most breath-taking, spiritual hike I have ever done. Zion National Park is so beautiful. I highly recommend this destination for outdoor adventures
I was there, this video is so amazing, my wife and I felt scary when trailing to the top of the Angel's Landing. It was worth to hike .. enjoyed the views from the top the Angels Landing. thanks for the video..
Went up this trail with my 9 year old son a few years ago during off season, not crowdedat all.. We have many miles of hiking trails under our belt. This trail is challenging and not for people who have a hard time with heights it's not that big of a deal.
I started that hike then bailed out at the first rock wall. My fear of heights and vertigo kicked in. It is nice to see what I missed but I still can't do it.
I was there in 2008. The way to the Angels Landing was well secured and therefore I wasn't scared. The Zion National Park is one of the most beautiful and most colorful region that I know.
If you guys like this hike, you will for sure want to do the climb up Half Dome in Yosemite. Just as scary as Angels Landing : ruclips.net/video/AsM2GuLyTL8/видео.html
Beautiful!!! I likely would have been game for that hike in my 20's with a friend, but I couldn't make it happen now. Thank GOD for the beautiful sights and for those who installed the grab chain.
That is the coolest Trail I have ever seen wish I would have known about it when I was younger I am disabled now wouldn't be able to hike it so thank you for the video
Remember it, looks like they made it safer now. Went there with the Green Tortoise Bus cross country in 82. Nice up there in Zion as I remember. Ended up at the US festival for a few days at the end of the trip. Great memories.
Lily, don't make up stats. The actual number is more like 5 or 6 in the history of the hike. A man did die last week on the trail leading up to AL but this was due to a heart attack and not a fall.
I went on the angles landing trail when I was 12, and the hike up to the chain point is sooooo exhausting! And when I went, there was ALOT more people, so people were coming down and people are climbing up, so the path was packed so it was really hard to get up.
He's right. I watched this before doing it. I also thought this would be too much but when you're there it does not appear as in the video. Trail is bigger than you think. If you are not stupid you will be fine. Two girls who came with us was also really scared watching the video. They were skipping on the way down.
Best hike I've ever done...so good me and my buddy had to do it twice, 2 days in a row, even though we were dead tired we ran up it and sprinted down(the path is so steep sprinting is so much easier and faster than walking down, unless you have joint problems)
My knees are literally numb right now...with fear that is. Oh my F gosh! You are insane for doing this and then recording. People are just casually looking down into the abyss. 👀
I did this hike in my 20s and it didn't seem too bad. I went back a few years ago (40s) and I said nope, I'm not going all the way up. Amazing what aging does to you.

Next time. I only had time to hike one of the two, so I chose Angel's Landing because it is the shorter of the two.
Agreed on Observation Point. It's a longer hike, but you get to look down on the folks hiking up Angel's Landing.
Pansy
angels landing is no more dangerous than any mountain hike in north america...
Yes! I went on that hike, very beautiful, good spot to take photos!
I can tell you, this fish eye lens makes it scarier then it is. I'm afraid of heights and yes some bits were a bit scary, but it was the most epic thing I've ever did in my life! :)
I'd crawl on all fours.
You're not afraid of heights if you made this hike. Trust me, anyone who is truly afraid of heights wouldn't even consider it.
Agreed. I didn't think it was really that bad in person. Just don't goof off and you're fine.
2:17 wait what! That kid looks around 3! Props to him for completing the climb but that seems like some reckless parenting to me.
I was going to say the same thing.
John Y that was a kid?
Dude it’s really easy, just looks scary.
Suki Mongoljav the funny thing is that there is no kid there. Everyone in this time stamp is an adult. I’m still trying to figure out who this kid is he’s talking about.
@@justiceLaw0000 the two children on the right on the screen? older one wearing grey the younger in blue..

This looks like one of those hikes where going back down is the hard part.
OK you know that guy that was at the top laying flat on his stomach with his fingers deeply enbedded in the rock and sobbing uncontrollably out of blood curdling fear? That was me.
I was not far behind you.
What minute is that
I was still at the bottom doing the same thing.
First time I went I cried and turned back quick at the scary part, second time I went I sobbed in sheer terror as I was yelled to the top by a jerk. This hike is no joke
@@GoddessAmberr I also need three tries to come to the top.
Thank you, I have attempted this hike twice but just could not get passed the third set of chains. My fear of heights combined with the impatient people who were taking huge risks made my say it was not worth watching someone die.
It is indeed an amazing work of engineering that people added those chains to make the hike somewhat safer.
I am enjoying the comments about this... especially the one about missing your brother and finding him at Starbucks 😄 I did this trail with a 12 year old who had a poor sense of balance due to ear problems... THAT was nerve-wracking, but well worth it, and he thought so, too. (He has gotten over his ear and balance problems and now teaches rock climbing.)
Yes, the wide angle lens DOES exaggerate the narrowness of the trail, but it IS usually narrower than 5 feet, with some sections substantially under 3 feet wide, with over 1000 feet straight down on both sides.
As is hinted at by the views from the top of Angel's Landing, ALL OF ZION NATIONAL PARK should be on your bucket list... even if Angel's Landing isn't!😀 It's my favorite National Park (so far!).
So this is the mountain I fall off of in my dreams from time to time 🤔
Glad just your dreams..a normal person probably like you lost life to a misstep. Not dream gone
"Scariest hike in America?" Finds a 4 year old kid at the top.
Yeah, obviously it's their first vacation.
Yeah I saw parents with babies in carrier at the top here but not on Half Dome.
Some children have no fear.
This is so beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Something I'd never be able to do, thank you for showing it to us. ❤❤❤
Hiked this four times already. Such a beautiful hike.
I was about 12 when i did this hike, im watching it now at 15 and I remember every last bit of it, i see all the comments saying “i would never do this” and its incredible knowing that I accomplished this at such a young age, it is truly life-changing!
aTm ツ - that’s really awesome that you did it! Good for you! :)
Best watched on mute. Great photography, but the soundtrack is overbearing.
Finished this hike today! Honestly looks a lot scarier in videos than in real life. Wasn’t as bad as I was expecting but still a fairly difficult hike!
Hiked this last year, saw a dad and his 8 year old pass me up on the way up lol. Cool experience
Lived in this canyon several years, while FPM at Zion Lodge walked this trail days and nights, one of the many in Zion. Loved it!
i have been to 42 states of the USA so far and hiked and have been too almost all of the national parks of those states and i have to say that i did this when i was 11 and no trail tops this one. It is stunning the whole and it feels like your climbing a juggle gym. Highly recommend
Hiked this when I was 14, thought my scout leaders were nutts taking us on this!
At least they werent molesting you! Lol jp
@@eyawakening honestly they couldve been, who knows lmao
Thanks for the video. My son and I did this hike yesterday. It was absolutely stunning. Very strenuous hike and not for the feint of heart!
Big props to you..I so wish I didn't have the severe vertigo I have. My daughter lives in SLC and has said she has seen more than one person frozen on the ledges, unable to move. I wouldn't have even sniffed the final ascent up the ridge.
*faint
J.R., on a scale of 1 - 10, how scary was this?
I’m so glad there are videos like this. I can get the feel with none of the danger. I could never do this hike. I’m way too afraid of heights. But, spectacular views! Thanks for letting me experience it!
Have good shoes with good treads. Leave the backpacks back at the start of the chains. If you have problems with heights or lack confidence in your balance - DO NOT go on this hike. There are many ways to prove your worth beyond climbing up a trail.
Major respect to anyone with the composure to do this hike. I'm certain I'd have a heart attack. Frankly, just watching the video was more than enough for me!
I’m always amazed by nature. It’s fascinating how mountain erosion has formed chain linked railings like that.
Just visited this past October and was blown away! What an incredibly jaw-droppingly gorgeous place! Definitely going back.
I was here in 1976, when there were very few people, and several times since. You can never describe this so thanks for the great film.. Best hike in America!
I was there in '76 too- but chickened out. Saw little kids doing doing it.
Great video. Thanks for filming and sharing your experience!
Looks amazing there. Defenetly on the bucket list!
Hiked it at 4am so I could see the sunrise. Was incredible!
The quality of the video is so good it almost feels like you are there.
As a person who did this hike, I can tell you that its easier than it looks. Now if you look off the edge you may get scared but its a fun climb!

Wow! Going to Zion in a couple of days and was curious about this one. Ah...I will freak out big time! Gotta pass on this one.
This is the most rewarding experience I’ve ever done . Thank you for letting me relive it safely lol
Hey I’m about the same age and I’m about to do this hike. I am REALLY scared of heights but love the looks of this hike, should I be worried??
I am also 14
Lmao same I’m 15 and not at all very sporty and it was pretty easy
I'm so proud of myself hiking to the top. It was totally worth it!
I agree
Huge drop offs yes, but wide open flat dry steps and more chains than dungeon, the only thing that is difficult is avoiding all the other tourists!
it's not the hike that's scary...it's the tourons on the trail.
Flat? Dry? Nah, try icy and snowy in December...
@@liamsmilie5430 Liam...what's it like being the most interesting man in the world?
Heading there in May and this confirms I will NOT be hiking Angels Landing. Your video gave me a great perspective!
Laurel Jackson same here. Thinking of visiting Zion in May and no way am I hiking this trail. My husband could never do it for sure.
I did this hike years ago; Angels Landing is the most breath-taking, spiritual hike I have ever done. Zion National Park is so beautiful. I highly recommend this destination for outdoor adventures
Ah this brings back memories... my favorite hike of all time. It was hard but I loved the fulfillment of that scene at the top.
When I look down from the cliff, my heart jumps till I see I'm still in my room. I'm never going there!
Alyssa - do it anyway. Trust me.
Yes! I know where I'm goin this summer. Thanks bro.
I feel my sphincter tightening up just watching.
what a butt hole
This is a very impressive hiking video. Thank you for sharing this experience! We are putting this on the list to hike.
Mark Raymond the exact same thing happened to me. Now I see what was waiting, I did the right thing to turn back!
Same here!
pus
Pussy.
We did a trip to Angela landing and Grand Canyon in the same week. Caught it all on video if you’d like to have a watch. Ty
"Hi, I'm Stevo and welcome to Jackass!" Proceeds to walk this trail on 1970's roller skates.
This is awesome! Have to put this on the list of hikes to do. Thank you for sharing!
This video could have been named “how to raise your blood pressure in just 1 minute!”
I'm getting dizzy just looking at it on the screen.
I am doing something scarier everyday. Being a pedestrian on Indian roads without sidewalks. Even at 57, I am still alive.
'Indian' roads...?!

Beautiful!!! I likely would have been game for that hike in my 20's with a friend, but I couldn't make it happen now. Thank GOD for the beautiful sights and for those who installed the grab chain.
I hiked this recently. I did find it scary in about three to five spots. It was worth it though and I am glad I didn't turn around.
That is the coolest Trail I have ever seen wish I would have known about it when I was younger I am disabled now wouldn't be able to hike it so thank you for the video
I was searching a hiking video to distract me from all of my studies and I am not sure what kind of emotions this caused. 🤣🤣🤣
At least they can grab the chains. There are some places which don't have any kind of safety measure at all.
Like what
Did this hike as a 65 year old with my 31 yr. Old son dedicated this hike to my little Grandson "Angel" best hike ever. Also great video footage.
Remember it, looks like they made it safer now. Went there with the Green Tortoise Bus cross country in 82. Nice up there in Zion as I remember. Ended up at the US festival for a few days at the end of the trip. Great memories.
Went there, but couldn't do it. too freaky. Damn kids were hoppin around like billy goats and I said, Nope!!! Beautiful scenery tho. Breathtaking!!!
Green shirt dude was like hold my beer
how many have died attempting this hike?
askin the real question
15 this year
Lily, don't make up stats. The actual number is more like 5 or 6 in the history of the hike. A man did die last week on the trail leading up to AL but this was due to a heart attack and not a fall.
+kckcmctcrc thanks to correct me every one needs to be corrected.
kckcmctcrc 15 have died total, just read up on it. stop correcting people unless you check your own facts first.
I went on the angles landing trail when I was 12, and the hike up to the chain point is sooooo exhausting! And when I went, there was ALOT more people, so people were coming down and people are climbing up, so the path was packed so it was really hard to get up.
YIKES! My heart was in my throat the whole time!! What an adventure!!!
Spectacular!! Thank you because I’ll never hike this😊
Hiked it yesterday. Looks worse than it actually is. Totally worth the time to get the great views.
Ryan Wasson No thanks. I'll enjoy the view from the safety of my couch just fine.
Oh it looks gorgeous. The only problem is the nagging thought in the back of your mind saying that if you mess up once, you're dead for sure.
Polarbear 123 even my mom who’s not really a hiker did it at 50+ years old.. you could def do it
Ryan Wasson
How long did it took you to reach the top?
