The m9 finally make it service on 18 years of 9/11. The propulsion is similar to the m8 cars. What a way to start service on a historical tribute to 9/11.

I miss the twin towers in the Manhattan skyline. New York City just isn't the same without them. Rest In Peace to those who died that terrible morning of September 11, 2001 and may God bless the families of the dead.

Ali Muhammad I definitely will. I’ve seen one or two M3s with a refinished front, literally the front part and that’s it. And one with new lights inside lol. I’ll check it out for sure

@Ali Muhammad The attacks of September 11, 2001 was an inside job. You can't destroy one skyscraper that is 1,368 feet high and another skyscraper that is 1,362 feet high by crashing airplanes into them. The airplanes crashed on the top floors of both towers. Explosives were used to demolish the twin towers.

@Ali Muhammad I was born in 1984. New York City was way different back then and things were cheaper too. I remember when a candy bar was just 50¢ cents back then and apartments were cheaper too.
I visited the twin towers in 1995. I went all the way to the roof of the South Tower. I miss that observation deck in the twin towers.

I wished it sounded more like the M7s, and the paint job was more along the lines of Orange and blue (NYC and Long Island colors) instead of gold and blue but the look pretty good!

It will be very interesting for everyday riders to compare the features between the M7s and M9s.
And they have been systematically replacing the seat fabrics on these M7s.
So they will be looking so new again which is a wonderful thing because they will be refurbished and looking pristine right in time for the M9s............ essentially as if LIRR is getting new M7s all over again and M9s

Awesome catch DJHammer's. I am so glad to see that the M9's are now in service on the LIRR. Definitely getting my M3 rides and RFW while I can. I think some of them are getting overhauled and will be in service until ESA is complete. The propulsion sounds very similar to the M8, like a lower pitched M8 propulsion and the Nathan K2 horn sounds good.
Dammitdammitdammit i wish i was going to huntington and returning and wouldve been able to ride it :( but awesome, they're finally in service after a little while and rip 9/11 victims.
the m9 is in service and m3 is gonna be replaced by the m9. it's have almost a robotic announcement and theirs good features around it
Best feature of these new units has got to be the "Car X of Y" indicators. Sorely needed on Metro North's New Haven Line where many stations are shorter than the train.
Still has that "New Train" smell! :)

Not sure I get the "high-tech" description that the MTA has had of these trains... The interior and exterior look almost the same with minor differences. Everything from the touchless bath fixtures to the led ads to the led lights to the button press end doors to the power outlets to the Car x of y info to the strip design of the exterior are just nice tack ons. I do get that the propulsion is different yet similar to the M8s and I wonder if they are more efficient / higher performance / more reliable than the M7s.
Ultimately, these are new trains built with an old spec that represents how long these took to build and release into revenue service. It's like ordering a brand new 2012 automobile in 2012 and finally taking delivery in 2019 except it was done with a fleet of 2012s. Or it's like adding costly Wi-Fi to buses and railroad trains and stations for convenience and passenger analytics when most won't bother given cellular data coverage has now gotten better. Maybe if the M9s had seats as wide as the M3's and some 2017-2019 tech, it'd really make a difference. Or if they had taken an initial order of these M9s and then applied an updated spec to like an M9.1 or M9.2 version train cars with more current tech. I just can't get that excited about these new trains since it feels like the MTA is shooting behind the target even though I really love my trains and buses. Guess it's good for what it is... Just not "high tech".

The subway is a rapid transit system to get around in the city, the LIRR is a commuter railroad that connects the city to Long Island!

They look so complex with all that running gear under the car bodies and so many attachments to the trucks. What's the lare orange shield on the trucks? Why don't these cars use conventional knuckle couplers? I hope the will be around a long time and provide reliable service.

Very nice! However as a long time LIRR commuter I immediately wonder about the spaciousness of the seats as compared to other models. In that category, the bi level C3 is king of kings. :)
Can probably be remedied if more people had their proper BMI.
I hope the arm rest on the seats are better designed. I have ruin 3 pairs of slacks when sitting down my pockets got caught and rip through them.

You are assuming they will get enough of these working sometime soon. So far, after years, 8 cars - not even a full size train.
@@rontroy3843 the set is being extended to 10 cars on Friday and to 12 cars on the 20th with more cars to be delivered and enter service in the coming weeks

I've been riding the LIRR for over 30 years. Even when new trains are brought into the system, service is still crap.
