12 years later and still a killer song

+12 months more, can confirm
Deserves way more popularity
Indeed
Yea
Indeed, indeed he does
Agreed
Yes yes
"Hey, what instrument do you play?"
"Oh, y'know, banging a steel mug on the table"
What do you play? Skin flute doesn’t count.
Badass. I played the referee whistle on paradise city for gunsnroses.
Still in the music though and it works better than someone's face in the table
@@catherinegallagher1101 A steel mug could be a face made to take a beating, never underestimate the resonance of a completely rocked out skull.
Still sound lol
Wow. Stephen Fry has an amazing voice.
Sensi Bleb Would be funny if he actually looked like him
+Geoff Wilde, 43 people think he does.
It's Charlie Brooker sir.....
Sensi Bleb lol
lololol i knew the singer seemed familiar
One of Elbow's best songs. ...and it would be right at home in the soundtrack of Peaky Blinders.
Goddamn right!
What the hell! What a coincidence HAHA I am JUST NOW watching the Peaky Blinders! And I am listening to this song on completely unrelated note lol
That's what I thought too 😅 It's great brittish song.
Was actually used in the adverts of a series called the Devil's whore.
I also heart it around the same time as your message in the "the morning show" the TV show
A pleasant surprise.
*James May talking about retired Mika Hakkinen*
''Mind you, he's still quite spritely.''
+aleks kerkelov I knew i wasn't the only TG fan here.
+Matthijs Gerretse Here is one too. Top Gear series 12 preview
Yeah, that TG snippet brought me here.
+aleks kerkelov and now we have Matt LeBlanc and Chris Evans hosting it (which quite frankly, will not be top gear)
+Tom Bromley Y'know, I'm actually sorta excited about the new Top Gear. I'm anxious to see what they can do with it. Plus, with the boys doing their show on Amazon (IT HAS A NAME NOW!!!) I think everyone wins here. Except Oisin.
Left 4 Dead’s game trailer featuring this song playing in the background is what brought me here. 🧐😎😈
Driver: San Francisco brought me here
I used to listen to this song so much when left 4 dead came out
😈 🚫
I came here from this trailer in a random DVD and i forgot what the name was, it took me ages to find it 😭
I know this song from l4d fanfilm
This music video is something special.
It's like a bar you'd visit in your dreams while your sick.
This is by far the greatest song Elbow ever produced.
*....and then they never made another song like it again.*
Why does this comment make perfect sense?
You're absolutely right about everything in this comment especially the bit about the bar
There's way better elbow songs, this is just their most straight forward/rocky
Duro pero justo.
When that guitar starts in, I just get chills.
This is a work of musical genius. Extraordinary and piercing lyrics with a melody that knocks your socks off ... and a bloody killer guitar riff. Something for everyone.
I forgot I learnt to play this on bass a few years ago and just reminded myself. All the instruments do their own thing but work together perfectly and then everything comes together on the last bars of the chorus - dun dun dadadun dadadun dun! Such a joy to play
Yes Indeed.
(Very) Very, Very Few Others have such a.. ...Freakishly Awesome 🤝 Catchy Musical Wobble and Bounce to it..
Teenagers.. ... is another. That .. Possesses a MASSIVE Sweet Groove... .
And to think A LOT of people know it from a zombie killing game.
@@Bjornieman Or driving related stuff, like a TV show about driving and cars (Top Gear), a rally racing game (DiRT 2), an experimental driving game (Driver: San Francisco).
Or maybe some other media from UK as well.
This song is absolutely fantastic.
Without a doubt one of the best songs ever. Epic! And I'm so glad "The Morning Show" is showcasing this group and song. The base line is crazy good!
That's how I found Elbow. Shazamed that song clip when May and Hakkinen were in the car. The best thing that has happened in my life was finding Elbow.
It's Hakkinen, hes going through the left hander!
+AcaRa Bombshell Häkkinen?
+Miika Ruokonen Correct.
+AcaRa Bombshell "I'm not so good on gravel."
Drives like a pro on gravel.
Michael Schumacher said that you were the only driver that be feared... justold top gear things...
top gear banter XD
DiRT 2 and Driver San Francisco brought me here, 2 of the best driving games of all time
Top Gear S11E03 brought me here
@@romanshvets1537 1:16 this is the part where you drift 😂
Left 4 Dead momento
its been 13 years huh?
this song is still constantly playing in my head daily for the past 13 years.
A band you need to see live to really appreciate how good they are..
One of my favourite Elbow tracks. Best played very loud.....
"It's Hakkinen, and he is going though with left hand"
-James May
through the left hander*
Yep thats why i'm here
Why do I meet people who don't like this band more often than not? I asked my friend if he liked Elbow, he wasn't too keen, he said he preferred shoulders knees and toes.
+Alfred Munkenbeck If all their songs were like this then they'd be awesome, this is their only song that isn't slow n boring (that I've heard).
Dads prefer the funny bone
That’s awesome 😂 love some dad humour once in a while ey!
Shut up!
This is breathtaking. I'm 61 and Ive heard it all, or I thought I had until now! Well done and I mean that most sincerely!!
Really want to try this cocktail he's talking about... It's probably really bitter.
The song title resembles the setting they're in, a bar where men go to drown their sorrows and guilt and are to scared to face the problems that await them
+BoySyndicate666 not the case man..just talking about a friend gettin a divorce. "mondays is for drinkin to the seldom seen kid" "there is a chinese cigarette case and the rest u can keep" etc etc
well it's up to interpretation, that is what's good about quality music
Yeah death of people close and then a divorce always leaves a very bitter taste in one's mouth. Friend of the band Brian Glancy died during the recording of this song, such scares can never heal... not really. But the song is one helluva legacy. He's the seldom seen kid
I love the melody of 'there's a hole etc.'
Absolutely amazing song. Every time I hear it over the years, I always get goosebumps!
Left 4 Dead, DiRT 2, Driver: San Francisco
Wut!? It was in Driver and Lfd?
Rainbow Blitz yeeeeeesssssss it is!!!
lolly edward Well I don't got LFD, but I do have Driver: San Fran, and I found out this great song in DiRT 2, so I'll have to look for it in Driver.
Some songs just have it.
I like this song because Left 4 Dead, DiRT 2, Driver:SF. This is Amazing!
is a song about getting hurt by someone and struggling to come to terms with that loss. The narrator is trying to get over the heartbreak by turning to alcohol on Mondays and by creating a "cocktail called Grounds For Divorce," to mask his pain. The pre-chorus lyrics allude to emptiness, loneliness, and the idea of not being able to help himself in his sadness. The chorus speaks of drinking with a seldom seen kid referring to the person he once loved, as a way to make it all go away. Despite the longing and sadness that permeates the lyrics, the song ultimately gives hope that he'll be able to move forward and find peace in the end.
Timeless. This band has it's finger on the mix of the old to the new.
As an avid racing game (this song is one of my favourites from Dirt 2) & Top Gear fan, when 1:17 drops my mind always think of some good sideways action.
IT'S HÄKKINEN! HE'S GOING ROUND THE LEFT HANDER
This song is so visceral, it comes straight from the heart, I love it ... why do I not love their other songs?
Same here
Have you listened to 'Magnificent"?
Absolutely NO IDEA ! Tried Starlings,Magnificent,One Day ?
Elbow need to make more songs like this!
Thanks to the Morning show for making me coming here to listen to this song
This song rocks. Just discovered elbow but that heavy guitar hook is so recognisable and memorable i feel like i've heard this song before
One of the first Left 4 Dead commercials on TV showed me this one back in 2008 and ever since then I was hooked!
Watch Top Gear when it was produced by Mr Wilman starring Hammond, May and Clarkson or Grand Tour and we'll you'll have heard it
Fantastic song which I have never heard on U.S. radio. First heard Elbow in the indy film 9 Songs. For those familiar with the music of the Sixties, the vocals and bluesy vibe of this song are reminiscent of Cream.
"You guys are crazy!"
- Gregory House
THANK YOU
this has to be one of the best rock songs ever written.
what a fucking banger
My wedding song as another by Elbow and here I am 4 years into a divorce and baby, I want what they are serving.
I sing this to my kids as a bedtime song. They love it. Great melody. Great band. Great song.
👏👏👊
Never brought this one out for my kids’ bedtimes but they get a lot of “Bones of You,” “Forget Myself,” and “My Sad Captains.”
One of my favorites songs to listen to while roaming around in Driver: San Francisco! The coppers ain't gonna catch me when this kicks in!
The rhythm section on this track is just awesome !
I’ve got one word for this band AWESOME 👍👍👍👍
Each and every Monday my father dropped in, we drank one beer and talked about everything. Since he's gone, there's this hole in my neighbouhood. It sounds strange, but everytime I listen to this rock song I'm fighting against tears in my eyes... but I love this song. Let's raise a glass to someone we've lost! Cheers!
And maybe welcome them back again on the other side of these crazy times we're living in?

Falling in love with Elbow :') LOVE LOVE LOVE Guy Garvey's voice!!! I've had this song in my head ALL DAY!!! :D
The highly underrated Elbow, superb!
Right, so my faith in music just got restored. Thank you. Really, really thank you.
I love Elbow, seen them live 3 times in Manchester awesome group! 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻🎸🎸🎸🎸
Can't get enough of this.
such a great song....deserved more airplay in the States...some things never change
AWESOME timeless song!!
Gotta thank L4D for showing me Clutch and Elbow.
I have to thank Driver San Francisco and its developers for exposing me to this artist. The soundtrack of that game is rather superb. As is the game.
Kudos to the developers for having good taste!
Same. Such a good game and good soundtrack.
its a shame that the game kinda fell off the face of the earth, what a damn good game
I thank Left 4 Dead for using this in a tv spot.
@@ndhart3213 Same, and apparently L4D writers Erik Wolpaw and Chet Faliszek are huge _Driver: San Francisco_ fans and cite it as having one of the best plot devices and dialogue.
Yoo... It was such a fever dream of a game. I bought it on eBay because I didn't finish it and it was way better than I remembered. Definitely go drive a DeLorean 88 MPH and the play the mission it unlocks
This song just got into my mind when I was listening to clutch and suddenly remembered the top gear episode with Mika Häkkinen.
Amazing song
Still loving this song to bits.
I’ve been looking for this song for years since the first time I heard it and loved it. Like at the minimum 10 years, was at a bar today with my boyfriend and this song came on and I felt my soul literally vibrate and feel complete. Shazam’d it and I will never forget it now. ❤
I love this song!
The other songs of Elbow don't give me that special thing like this song
Give me Grounds for divorce and the rest you can keep!
i was in love with this song as a child bc of Left 4 Dead, it's still amazing
I been listn to this for 4 years everyday

I'm addicted to this song!
Forgot all about this song, listened to it a few years ago all the time and I just heard it again on an episode of Rescue Me. So damn good.
This is one of my all-time favorites. And I just discovered The Black Keys' - I Got Mine which I like just as much =)
It's Häkkinen, he's going through the left-hander!
Heard this song 10 years ago from a movie and still is in my top 10
I could listen to this every day of the week. AWESOME video and amazing song. Love them.
Elbow are the most underated band
The drop with the guitar sends shivers up my spine ❤️❤️❤️🤗🤘

Thanks Left 4 Dead commercial for this amazing song
Thanks House M. D. for this amazing song!
When Stephen Fry , Daryl Dixon and Samwell Tarley decides to start a band.
I saw a L4D live action of this almost a decade ago. It's one of those songs that you just think back on every once in a while - great song.
Was watching The Morning Show on Apple TV (free week trial lol) and this popped up at the end of episode 5 and I was like...Oooof not heard this for yonks!
this songs still hits different in 2023, fantastic guitar
I have a friend who is a huge fan. I decided to check it out. If this is representative of the band...I understand. Attitude and emotion all over the place. I love the use of dynamics.
Underrated and under appreciated. A nice musical gem.
Still my favorite song of all time. I can't...I can't say how much it's gotten me through the hard times and buoyed the good times to even greater heights.
This is peak bar song. Peak feelings. Drinking to the Seldom Seen Kid!
It's great,no doubt!!
1:17 When he brings it in with that guitar lick. PWOAR!
Yes,omg
I went to a drum master class with this drummer

'There,'s a hole in my neighbourhood down which of late I cannot help but fall.' Insane lyric !
this band is amazing! shame I don't hear anyone talk about this band
Its Hakkinen....He's going thru the left hander!!!!
That bass is INTOXICATING!
This song had been stuck in my head for years, and now I've found it using the Google Hum Assistant!
Anyone in 2021 seeing this? It's Lockdown time. This pandemic brought so much good music! I love this band! 😻 Thank you, Elbow! You make our days of confinement smoother.
Hadn't heard the song in years then thought about it the other day, so came here
