Indie isn't an actual genre; it's just supposed to mean artists operating independently without labels, or on independently owned labels, it has nothing to do with the sound of the music and the majority of "indie" bands and artists have absolutely nothing in common with each other in terms of sound/style and genre, and can usually very easily be identified as another, more accurate genre.
