Anyone who hasn’t seen the live orchestra version needs to pause the video and go there immediately and watch it. No performance has given me chills more than that performance.
What a voice. We are lucky to have this man in music.
He's a brilliant wordsmith
Beautiful story behind a brilliant song, from an awesome album and one of the best groups of the last 20 years
Wonderful, really appreciate his sharing the heart behind the song.
Without a pint of exaggeration Guy Garvey is probably the best lyricist in Western music this century. I can’t think of anyone else whose lyrics are quite as evocative and in quite the same way.
What an extraordinary artist and human being.
I really love stories behind the songs especially like this one.
I love that thing about each of us never truly dying until all thoughts of us fade into the past. Guy’s friend is still with him. ❤️
And THAT is the truth behind one of the most creative souls ever. His lyrics are carved out of eternity and will have meaning for generations to come, let alone now.
What a special song! Love the story behind it…many thanks
Guy Garvey is a lyrical genius...a Master of Melody. Elbow plays the soundtrack of my life.
I so appreciate this channel and the excellent work you do. Please keep bringing us these great stories! Really appreciate the work you all do..thank you!
I can relate. One of my closest friends died from ALS two years ago. He pops up in my dreams sometimes and whether or not it's from within me or somewhere else, it makes me feel like I really saw him.
Such a lovely man.
this song got my hooked on Elbow, brilliant
Beautiful song that came from a beautiful soul.
I came to Elbow late in the day, but really enjoy the maturity of the sound and quality of the bad.
In 2008 I moved into Manchester with the people I was in a band with at the time (Blunderbuss Benefit - we were good; we didn't amount to anything, we are on RUclips, torture your ears at your leisure). On the very first night we went out, we bumped into Jimi Goodwin from Doves in a bar called Soloman Grundies, about 200 yards from our house. On the second night I bumped into Guy and Pete in this very place TempleBar. I don't remember much, I was hopelessly drunk, but I do remember they were the nicest people. The place is tiny.
I really love the pacing of this minidocumentary, really well edited and cultivated
So great to see this! I wish there were more. Elbow is my favorite.
Great story! Adds a layer to this beautiful song!
I love this guy!
Modern day Gem Garvey is. Go to singer and band.
This was beautiful.
"The dream freshened the essence of him in my heart" thats a bar, pun intended
Brok in m'n keel... een band en lied komt zo nog meer tot zijn recht. Menselijke factor blijft belangrijkste!
Guy Garvey is sacred ❤❤❤
Quality choon.
❤❤❤❤
It's a great bar. I'm proud to say that I've drank several times from that particular toilet.
Where is it?
@@felinegroovy It's in Manchester!
@ Top 2000 a gogo. Thank You ❣️
A man is not dead, as long as his name is still spoken.
I love “friend of ours “. Also, I presume, based on Brian.
Does anyone know which festival that live version is from?
My reason for being
We have this in Enschede as well. A drinking hole in a public toilet.
eff me mates
Never really understood why this one hit wonder band get so much acclaim.
Try listening to their albums and you will discover some wonderful music.
Oh and they’ve had more than one hit.
They had more top 40 hits, although they are far from a hit single machine. I think a lot of bands would be happy with 2 platinum and 5 gold albums !
As this video shows he has a good story teller charm and their music and live shows give a warm intimate feeling, almost as in a pub with friends, to rather big crowds. So that probably.
They are an album and a live band, and a brilliant one at that!
“Never really understood why this one hit wonder band get so much acclaim.”
Lol you must be American, I don’t wanna hear it.
An absolutely brilliant band.
