The biggest upgrade other than the screen resolution of course and the refresh rate over the Rift S is the easily cleanable forehead pad on the Cosmos. Why Oculus decided to use a cloth padding for that area is beyond me. It collects sweat so fast and makes it uncomfortable for multiplayer. What were they thinking?
@@gabrielh0319 Even if you have a pc, oculus link works very fine now. I have the quest and always think about upgrading, but there is no point for that except the higher refresh rate on other headsets. Just stay with the quest until there is a real innovation :)

The tweet has since been deleted. Although, most people with the vive cosmos report that it has 2 hrs. of battery life.
Ipd is not just manual or digitally set. The one of the rift s is a pure software setting. It is similar to using digital zoom instead of what new phones have with dedicated zoom cameras.
IPD, or inter pupillary distance, is the distance between the pupil of each eye. The average is about 64mm. Mechanical IPD adjustment matches the distance between the lenses (and thus the sweet spot of the lenses) with the distance between the pupils. Software IPD adjustment cannot do this but it can alter the position of the image seen through each lens so that the stereoscopic effect appears slightly closer or further away. If you have a very small IPD (mine is 60mm) or a very large IPD then no amount of tinkering with software IPD adjustment will compensate for the physical difference between your pupil distance and the fixed distance of the Rift s lenses.

The Cosmos does have a fan but it's used to cool the internals because the headset does get hot. It's actually really, really annoying because fans get loud when they ramp up to cool things. Fans also tend to not last long causing them to make super annoying clicking and other sounds. Fans are a bad idea. Ever head a desktop fan go bad? Half the games out don't even support the controllers. The thing can't track your hand movements if one is behind the other... It has issues tracking in low lighting. The battery life on the controllers is just insanely bad as it's 2-3 hours. You'd think as a cell phone company HTC would know how to make a battery last. There is light bleed through on the top parts of the headband there are small cracks light gets through so, if you have lights over your head light comes through, not only is this annoying but it can reflect light off the lens into your eye blinding you or making it impossible to see what is going on. The Halo style band to find the sweet spot for my glasses makes me have to have the headband a bit too tight, it actually goes from comfy to painful after 30 minutes or so of use. I didn't have this issue with the Rift S. Lastly the damn thing has a freaking fan inside of it... This comment is really late but id like to know if the htc cosmos tracking has been fixed also does the 10 Hz make a noticeable difference when playing games
honestly i had the cosmos and returned it cause of the incompability and switched to rift s, but sadly after a while i realised that the rift has massively cheaper controllers, felt worse than a Wii Remote in these "Grip accessories" the Cosmos had issue with the ring being the size of your neck.. upgraded from Rift S to Index and must say it brings good sides of the rift and cosmos together such as high-quality feeling controllers, ipd adjustment (Rift S IPD Adjustment is crap) according to it with my IPD of 71.4 i could use it... but sadly no even though the Index has max 70mm IPD it somehow fits my eyes perfectly, best upside of Cosmos was the lack of Godrays and AMAZING display but sadly the comfort cushions gave me a horrible allergy to that Leathery material, Rift is more comfy but the material started tearing after 4 months of use and felt like it was taken from a 1970s honda civic in 2010 in terms of general quality and feeling... Also another downside of Cosmos was that the headphones just could not get over my ears no matter what position of headset i made just my head is weird shaped and it snapped back all the time.. but still Rift S is a good choice for the Sub 300-350 Euros, Cosmos is great too if it was sold for let's say 499 euros with the "OLD" controllers and then sell the attachments at 100-150 euros, but sadly for the 800 euro for elite or 699 for normal old one ((At least before new release)) i must say it's big no no, get a Vive Pro if u are into HTC Territory or just and Index with second hand Basestations and wands for aprox 700 eur or pay 300 extra and get the knuckles + basestations. Overall great review which doesn't crap all over Cosmos as for me that IPD adjustment of up to 73MM is a massive thank you to the rest 33% of the IPD Community, who are locked out behind facebook 68mm max and valve's 70mm which is still better but the extra 3mm would not hurt and some people would love to pay extra for it, so thanks for showing that the Tracking isn't perfect but could be alright, in some Countries the Valve is not possible to get and HTC can be bought off-shelf in such countries as example as Vietnam where Valve Index costed me 1873US$ after Import Tax where HTC Cosmos can be bought for 699US$.

I own the rift S and just bought the cosmos. I am beyond dissapointed at the quality of the cosmos' lenses. The sweet spot is around 5mm and is so small you'll rarely find it. The god rays are extremely bad and its so blurry that the increase in resolution is complete negated. I cant tell if there is any increase in sharpness from the Rift S. The headset is very heavy and is overall just a worse product. Everyone seems to be modding their lenses with the GearVR lenses - which shows how bad HTC screwed up
Ok, i realize most think both Rift S and Index has better value than the cosmos, but i can get the Cosmos for the same price as the Rift S, is it worth it or not?
Iceius okay so it is worth it to get the cosmos they have put some updates in to fix tracking still not perfect but you have to notice that it is 2-3 months old and this one will be good if they replaced it with the HTC vive.
You would have to get base stations (have to be lighthouse), buy the controllers and use a space calibrator to get it to work. So i would just take the index cause i dont really mind spending 1k instead of like 900 euros, get a way better hmd and less problems.
I cant help but feel weird when people say inside out tracking. That is lighthouse tracking. It's actually outside in tracking on the Oculus quest/rift s as well as the Vive cosmos.
My friend let more borrow their original Oculus and now im hooked, but i dont know which of these to get... I just wanna be sure it feels like a nice big upgrade, will the S still feel like a big leap in quality? Im leaning towards the Cosmos because i dont want any part if it to feel like a downgrade and im a framerate nut. So people are saying the cosmos has bad hand tracking but surely it cant be worse than the CV1 right?

Slightly I haven’t ever had the cosmos for 6 months and it’s already starting to break the screen keeps spinning and it made me motion sick I’m planning to get rid of my cosmos and get a rift s
I dont know how it compares because i dont have one, but theres still the vive and the vive pro
@@ryanheinrichs3704 the original vive has a really bad screen door effect and the vive pro is great but if you're looking for an easy to use vr the Rift S is the go to
20:20 why does it even exist? wmr just has velcro like sticky bits built into the solid plastic and a removeable foam pad. no massive complicated removable rubbery thin plastic weird face thing.. i guess its more likely to be comfortable for different head sizes though.
This comment is really late but id like to know if the htc cosmos tracking has been fixed also does the 10 Hz make a noticeable difference when playing games
ruclips.net/video/u4uAuQYi0ro/видео.html
honestly i had the cosmos and returned it cause of the incompability and switched to rift s, but sadly after a while
i realised that the rift has massively cheaper controllers, felt worse than a Wii Remote in these "Grip accessories"
the Cosmos had issue with the ring being the size of your neck.. upgraded from Rift S to Index and must say
it brings good sides of the rift and cosmos together such as high-quality feeling controllers, ipd adjustment
(Rift S IPD Adjustment is crap) according to it with my IPD of 71.4 i could use it... but sadly no
even though the Index has max 70mm IPD it somehow fits my eyes perfectly, best upside of Cosmos was
the lack of Godrays and AMAZING display but sadly the comfort cushions gave me a horrible allergy to that
Leathery material, Rift is more comfy but the material started tearing after 4 months of use and felt like
it was taken from a 1970s honda civic in 2010 in terms of general quality and feeling...
Also another downside of Cosmos was that the headphones just could not get over my ears no matter what position of headset i made
just my head is weird shaped and it snapped back all the time..
but still Rift S is a good choice for the Sub 300-350 Euros, Cosmos is great too if it was sold for let's say 499 euros with the
"OLD" controllers and then sell the attachments at 100-150 euros, but sadly for the 800 euro for elite or 699 for normal old one ((At least before new release))
i must say it's big no no, get a Vive Pro if u are into HTC Territory or just and Index with second hand Basestations and wands for aprox 700 eur or pay 300 extra
and get the knuckles + basestations.
Overall great review which doesn't crap all over Cosmos as for me that IPD adjustment of up to 73MM is a massive thank you to the rest 33% of the IPD Community,
who are locked out behind facebook 68mm max and valve's 70mm which is still better but the extra 3mm would not hurt and some people would
love to pay extra for it, so thanks for showing that the Tracking isn't perfect but could be alright, in some Countries the Valve is not possible to get
and HTC can be bought off-shelf in such countries as example as Vietnam where Valve Index costed me 1873US$ after Import Tax where
HTC Cosmos can be bought for 699US$.
HP Reverb G2 next? I'm about to review that.
@@TheProvokedPrawn honestly I hate WMR headsets cause of the bugs but if it works well has the speakers and would work with knuckles I think it would be a legit option
@@WiewiurTV designed in partnership with Vive though. So Steam VR works fine. From what I've seen so far anyways
@@TheProvokedPrawn yeah that is the reason I didn't say it's plain MXR with VR Support
This may become the best headset in the MXR sector and hopefully a solid cosmos replacement without the modularity ofc but it doesn't matter anyways :)
@@WiewiurTV yeah they've not made the modular element interesting enough yet and they're asking too much money imo
Possibly but see here first. ruclips.net/video/x2o7fg0LfLw/видео.html
Iceius okay so it is worth it to get the cosmos they have put some updates in to fix tracking still not perfect but you have to notice that it is 2-3 months old and this one will be good if they replaced it with the HTC vive.
Waaaait, why do I have arctis 7 and it doesn't fit over the headstrap
Is your headband too tight maybe? Or perhaps I have a smaller head?
@@TheProvokedPrawn I mean, it fits, but it's not as comfortable as if had those headphones on my head without a headset.
I want to get a headset, but I only have an HDMI port. No usb c. I’m screwed
Get an adapter?
Mike Massaar doesn’t work
get an original oculus rift from ebay, its still pretty good compared to the rift s
EVOLICIOUS i have the cv1 and have no issues with it...
How hard would it be to use index controller on the rift s?
You would have to get base stations (have to be lighthouse), buy the controllers and use a space calibrator to get it to work. So i would just take the index cause i dont really mind spending 1k instead of like 900 euros, get a way better hmd and less problems.
Im planning on getting the rift, where do you get those eyes on the rift?
I stole them from my wife.
@@TheProvokedPrawn bet she didn’t see that coming
@@brieflymonitored lol.
Does it work to track the controllers on the htc vive cosmos better in a dark room?
New Comos updates to improve tracking and such incoming blog.vive.com/us/2019/10/18/vive-cosmos-release-notes/
I cant help but feel weird when people say inside out tracking. That is lighthouse tracking. It's actually outside in tracking on the Oculus quest/rift s as well as the Vive cosmos.
It's what Oculus call it. It's the official terminology. Captain Pedantic.
Valve Index instead? Though I don't know about the hand tracking issue. I've not seen problems yet apart from with the room being too white.
i mean what does better graphics do when its unplayable
any issue with the tracking complaining of not enough light in the room?
I had alot of problems with the headset complaining with that at first. But they released an update today that fixed that, just as I expected. Now it works 100%, just turn your lamp on and you're good to go.
@@Komocka1 Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't received mine yet and I was thinking of cancelling it if it was a hardware issue as opposed to firmware. Cheers!
Yep. Had that issue and the opposite one where it said my room was too bright during the day.
Yep I had the same problem. Visuals and comfort are great, but if it can't track it's useless! Glad to hear it's sorted out. I'll try it when I get home from work.
Thanks for the info guys so what would you do, cancel the order (mine hasn't arrived yet) or stick with it and plough through imminant growing pain barriers of this new device?
I’m thinking about which one to get should I get the rift or cosmo I want better for cheap
Rift S
The Provoked Prawn thx
Rift S for the win. I def made the right choice.
@Luke Sullivan yes I believe so
Htc vive cosmos for thé win I def made the right choice
if you already have a PS4 and a PSVR i recommend just buying a nolo cv1 kit and boom you can play steam vr games with you PSVR with full vr tracking :) Just for those that love there psvr's :D
have you been using the cosmos because if you are in the tracking as good as the rift s now
ruclips.net/video/u4uAuQYi0ro/видео.html
can you do a updated guide to the headset because I heard it got updated again fo it's tracking
Ok questions. If you could get the rift-s. Cosmos, samsung odyssey, or the quest 2. For overall performance and comfort which one would u get?
Rift S for Pc. Quest 2 for wireless convenience.
@@TheProvokedPrawn so the quest 2 would be better with the link cable over rift-s?
@@phillipferguson4333 it's better in that you have the freedom to play wirelessly. Then plug in that way and play more games too. Plus they're supporting it longer. The rift s is still great though.
@@TheProvokedPrawn I have a quest 1 I got used from a friend so I want to get a good one everyone saying quest 2 r reverb g2. Just looking at my options on price. My wife wants one also but says the quest to heavy on face.
I was thinking about getting cosmos because of the replaceable face. But I keep hearing quest2 r rift-s . So ty I will get a quest 2. And a halo for it and my quest 1. Again thank you for advice
Any chance you could show the Cosmos AR mode? What's the quality on that?
Alas I had to return it so I can't help anymore :(
@@TheProvokedPrawn That's too bad. Thanks for the reply though.
He basicly just talks about The HTC vive i thinks he likes it more
I actually prefer the Rift S
i prefer the rift S, i think is an overall better experience for the money, nevertheless no body addresses the elephant in the room, touch controllers are shitty, the whole tracking ring is extremely delicate and will break if you bump it with anything, doesn't really happen with the bigger tougher controllers from the Cosmos.
Every time I saw the rift s I just about died because of the googly eyes
can you show how the headstrap goes in and out when you roll the wheel again? 50 times just aint enough, Im dumb as sheet!
Ok. Will do.
Is there a way to calibrate your ipd from within the software setup?
htc vive cosmos, no idea, rift s, yes
In my country right now the Cosmos costs 100 dollars less than a Rift S, but good video!
Damn, lucky then
Does the vive have a mic that u can talk through?
Yes

Glad to be of help. Hope I earned a sub.
@CrazyWeirdo no the rift is better for PC only
Issues with someone who wears glasses for either?
Steamy specs
300 is slightly?
Clearly that's subjective as you're the second person to say that.
The Provoked Prawn yeah... 300 is not small
But still the video was really helpful. I guess I’ll go for the valve index
@@guestsmoke2153 I'd love to try that out
If you’re already at $700 you might as well go the extra $300 to get the index. If you’re an enthusiast. I’ll stick with the rift S for now.
i ahte how they copied the touch controllers
a link box? why do they require a link box? the rift s doesnt
That's the HTC way.
Much better graphics if I had to guess
my ipd is 57 can i use the rift s without issues?
pops pop you can change the IPD in settings
The stereo earcups look like crumpets
Should I buy a quest or this ? Am thinking of quest
They're quote different. Quest is not nearly as powerful or capable.
But I would love the no cable experience

Rift S, because it's on sale.
Rift s because cosmos is garbage, complete garbage
I don't call $700 slightly more expensive than $400, unless you have very comfortably disposable income.

it sounds terrible. i have wmr and even they have no problems tracking. they are absolutely perfect as long as there is some sort of light. they aint fussy. i have a nice messy room for them (sorry, not messy, cluttered/full. its semi tidy..) but i do have white walls.
