- Yes, it's finally back! The legendary clip featuring rightie Rush and his cranky claim that Butthole Surfers main man Gibby Haynes was a fan but had to be thrown out of the Limbaugh show audience! (For the record, Gibby later insisted that he was nowhere near the TV taping, and when I called the EIB office for their side of the story, Limbaugh's producer Kit Carson shrugged it off, saying that the whole deal was probably just some young BHS fan pulling a prank on Rush!)
Fuck, now the algorithm will offer me more Rush because I watched this.

Very few people remember this but in his very earliest days on air Rush would periodically (like every 3xor 4 days) announce:
"If anyone out there is getting hot under the collar right now, just remember this is only a character I do for your entertainment"
He would then give a brief overview of the "long tradition of this on radio" and I'm almost certain he mentioned Wally George.
Unfortunately I have so far failed miserably in my attempt to unearth any recordings of Rush broadcasts from that time or any other evidence to back up my admittedly sketchy memory, and as of yet have only found two other people who also recall this.
The audience looks like an 80s Southern Baptist church congregation.

I'm gonna be the only one here when I say I like them both. Rush Limbaugh (may he rest in peace) had mighty interesting things to say, and Butthole Surfers are one the greatest rock bands from my home state.

I'm with you. Rush loved the USA and he wanted what's best for people, I believe. I'm way more of a rock fan than a Rush fan but I can still appreciate the man and he did make lots of great points and insightful observations.

BTW, back when Gibby had his radio show I gave the station a copy of the Limbaugh tape to use for making promos, so there were ads with Rush plugging the show by the guy from the "something something Surfers". There's audio files circulating of Gibby's show but unfortunately none of them include the promos, because you don't run a promo for a show during the show!

The funny thing is I liked punk and alternative music during the 90's but not into partying or drugs as a conservative who listened to Rush Limbaugh regularly on radio in the 90's. Also, I attended Butthole Surfers shows drug free since it was exciting enough and did not need drugs.
