I also love that he is not one of those douchbags that says things like... "While this car is slow by todays standards...". Or... "This isn't very fast...". He is like "No, this is still damn fast. Maybe not as fast as some of the crazier shit that's out today, but it is exhilarating to drive." And he is right, those are still powerful cars.
I too bought my '91 300ZX TT in Billings, MT where I grew up. I have owned her for 20 years and multiple stages of modifications. Still looks and feels new with only 80k miles. Mine dynos at over 400hp at the rear wheels and is 100% daily drivable. Nice find!
In 1992 I started my freshman year at a small university in my hometown of Antigonish Nova Scotia Canada! Antigonish was about as far away from sports cars as just about anywhere, so when a student from the big city of Toronto pulled up to the library in a bright yellow 300zx twin turbo it was like a shot of lightning. I was instantly in love! That set me on a 30 year love affair with a car that I have never even driven, let alone owned. I have vowed to own one someday but with kids and life in general the time has never been right. This video is exactly what I needed to see, someone falling in love with their car crush all over again. Beautifully shot, and presented. Extremely well done!
More for the "wow" tech list (maybe not wow today but it was when the 300zx came out): Dual Throttle bodies, long individual intake runners, variable cam timing, dual overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, multi-link rear AND FRONT suspensions, variable assist power steering. All of these features were not available on the 1989 and earlier 300zx.
Man, when he says "I just bought this car today. This is my car now!" I feel that so much. Even after several years of owning my dream car, I still get this feeling. I own this. This is my car. This is really mine. Ah, such a great feeling.
Great write up, beautiful scenery. I would love to have the 300 ZX tt as a part of the holy quartet (Supra Turbo, RX7 tt and Mitsu 3000 GT VR4). Good luck with your car, I hope you keep it for a long time and get thousands of miles worth of smiles.
Love the excitement! After not owning a fun car for 15 or more years, this past February I purchased a silver 2010 Camaro SS manual with 41k miles for $17, 250. I drive it everyday it doesn't rain and it never gets old. Still catch my self looking at it out of the window at home. The car came with lowering springs and a cold air intake. Within the first two months of owning it, I added a MBRP axle back exhaust. It sounds so amazing. I am never getting rid of it. I thought I was a little crazy when I bought it at first but so glad I did. I actually had a practical reason for buying it as I was commuting at the time and was looking for a fun and cheap commuter. It does not feel cheap to me. Feels like a car I will own and love for a very long time. I have so much fun every time I go for a drive. I was never even a Chevy guy but this was the right deal at the right time and turned out so perfect!
Great analysis Todd... Cars from the 80s & 90s actually allow you to feel the road without feeling corrupted by electronics. I purchased an '87 Corvette about 5 years ago from the original 90+ year old owner with 39K on the clock. Drove it home from Ohio to Texas. It was a "spirited" drive to say the least with the trucking community providing holes to move in and out of traffic. Now, she has 44K and will be a family heirloom for my son to enjoy once he is licensed. Keep the videos coming with the greatest play by play!
I think the Z32 TT may just be my all-time favorite of the epic 90’s Japanese sports cars! It’s probably because when I was growing up my uncle had a mint 260Z and he took me to the Atlanta car show in 1991 where they had a then-brand new 300ZX that we got to sit in and lust after (as well as the old IMSA race car). I’ve absolutely loved the Z32 ever since and hope to some day find a mint and stock example for myself. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in love with the Supra Turbo, RX7, NSX and 3000GT VR4 as well, but my very favorite remains the Z32. Such an epic design!
I have the same car. I've owned it for over 20 years. We've had some up and downs. In 2010 i replaced the engine with a 1995 jdm engine with the new style injectors. I also did some other mods. Anyway, thanks for showing the z some love!
This is exactly my type of car - a coupé, beautiful, cool, powerful, comfortable, and even kind of luxurious. Cars that were made for two people to get the most enjoyment out of a trip.
Had a girlfriend buy one of those. Think it was maybe a year newer than yours. It was very smooth and easy to drive. Was reliable also. Disagree it was closer to 1961 cars. Power steer , brakes. Anti lock brakes , fuel injection, engine management , day night mirrors , self cancel turn signals, disc brakes all around. Two adj tie rod ends, 5 speed trans Trust me todd.. I o owned and wrenched on cars from the 1960's and honestly I dont think your old enough to remember all the improvements your car has. Fuel injection alone is amazing.
Nicely done! I have a pearl yellow 1990 2+2 with less than 80,000 miles. Everything is original and everything works. Found it five years ago after a 1991 300ZX that survived 275,000 miles before rust got it. Enjoying the channel and look forward to the "older" car reviews.
Sir, your car selection journey is impeccable!!! I've owned two of the 90s Zs. Own an 88 now, but she's been down for three years!!!! You've motivated me to start bringing her back! And let me not omit you landing my DREAM-CAR; 928!!!! Bucket-list! And I'm also eyeing the 22 GR86 with the upgraded engine! Enjoy the FairLady, because that she is! ✌🏾❤✊🏾
While I genuinely appreciate you guys giving the 300ZX TT some well-deserved recognition, please don't give it TOO much recognition as I haven't bought one yet!
Todd is the best in the business, his natural connection to the machine he's piloting comes through in spades. Sometimes I think he's a little too rough on my V8 Lexus cars, but I can always see his point and respect it. :-D Can't wait to see what happens with these cars!
This should be a fun video series to follow. I almost bought an '88 300ZX a few months ago. I was actually the winning bidder on eBay, but then I backed out due to worry about the timing belt service not being recent and getting the car from Vegas up to SLC. I didn't want to risk driving it and having the belt break en route, and didn't want the added expense of hiring a car transport company. Looks like you had a fun drive back to Utah with this one. Best of luck with it.
Great video--and great scenery! I remember taking my 280ZX Turbo into the dealership for some work and they handed me the keys to a new 300ZX (non-Turbo) for a test drive. It was a brilliant car and I am sure that the Twin Turbo is so much better. One of Japan's best-looking cars and a real keeper. And as to buying a car on the other side of the country--I did this with my C6 Corvette and had a five day trip across Canada, my first time actually driving a Corvette. 2 1/2 times the horsepower of my 280ZX Turbo, and uses half the gas so there is something to be said for progress!
Always enjoy your sincere enjoyment reviews. I had a ‘81 280zx 5-psd manual, turbo with T-tops. Damn fun car on windy roads with the t-tops off. Enjoy your classic Z-car!
Boy, this is a Hoot! Glad you both had cool cars to go back-too (as it were) my first car was a Ford Galaxy 500, basic utilitarian sedan. Cant wait to watch your adventures, and recapturing some of your youth.
Man I love my 1994 tt. The1994 has the electronic HICAS 4 wheel steering so no hydraulic mess to deal with as it ages. Also, the1994 has regular pillar mounted seat belts and the updated PTU. With 740cc injectors, intake, turbo back exhaust and tune you get 400hp. I love these cars man. I had a 1994 NA and an earlier 1990 TT too, so I have first hand experience with earlier ones and NA, though all were 5 speed.
Excited for this series, longest trip I have logged in my Z32 is from mn to Branson Missouri for z nationals. Was a consent 108 outside there. Glad my ac was in working order. Great week of Z cars Car drove great. Thing just loves to cruize
loved my 1990 (?) red manual 300zx TT. only difference between the one shown here is the absence of that little hood ornament. i think they came out on the next year's model. the t-tops were magnificent. and yes, it was fast...in 1990. i think'll cruise on over to autotrader now, and see what they've got available....
One thing to remember is that the Z32 300ZX Twin Turbos had about the same performance envelope as the contemporaneous Acura NSX. They were a bargain performance car.
Back in 1993 I was looking for a serious driver's car and was looking at the NA versions of this car but they were still too new and too expensive. I saw a TT version at the LA Auto Show and really lusted after it. What I wound up getting was a Porsche 944S, which I kept for 10 years and had a blast driving all around Southern California in places like Topanga Canyon and Mulholland Drive for fast drives on the weekend. At the college where I worked there was an administrator who parked a TT 300ZX in the faculty parking lot and so I parked my car in the vicinity of his car, in an outlying area where we wouldn't get dinged by other cars. Now I have a 2019 370Z sport coupe 6MT that is the best sports car I've ever owned. In a couple of months I'm going down to the LA area to have exhaust and intake systems installed plus a dyno tune done on the car and then I'll drive it back up to the SF bay area where I live. I'll take the PCH on the way up and make it a nice mini driving vacation. Have lots of fun in that 300ZX, Todd.
My first car was a z32 , I modded the crap out of it, then I flipped it , totally upside down on a spirited drive. That ttop glass saved my life . 300zx z32 is part of me and always will be, fantastic buy!
GREAT vid, congratulations on your new purchase!! I bought my JDM Fairlady the same way in 2018. I flew to Atlanta with my wife and drove the car back to NJ, stopping in every historic town on the Atlantic coast. This was an unforgettable experience.
You’ve inspired me Todd… I gotta go buy my second one now. It’s only been like two months since I ditched my first one and honestly not having a Z in my life has been heart breaking.
I fealt the same way when I flew to Colorado to buy my 1996 Corvette LT-4. First time I rowed the gears driving it home I was in love... it wasn't as fast as some of the other Vettes I have driven... But still had a great amount of power. But it was the realization of a dream come true as it put me right back into the shoes of the 18 year old kid that had one of these blow his doors off on South Boulder Road.
Nice production, enjoyed the scenery and the car, I always liked this Gen. And yes I miss the old school Turbo's. Kind of like the Porsche 911SC, when that Cam hits 4000 RPM and that's when the real power kicks-in.
Best attainable performance car of the 90s!!! Supra is overrated and came late to the party. NSX is arguably better but it was supposed to be, and is/was out of reach for most. Rx7 is the most beautiful but is a pile and hobbit sized. I'm not bothering to justify the 3000gt, lol. And the skylines are overrated shitboxes like early WRXs and only are hyped here cause forbidden fruit. Viva la Z32. Can't wait for a year of content with this gorgeous car
So cool. I have the exact same car, year, color, engine, and transmission, and JWT tune. I have 105,XXX I love my Z so much. can't wait to here you all compare the car to modern stuff. I drove a m2 competition that was the most fun I have had in a modern car.
Thank you so much for making this! I recently bought my own 91 Z32 TT and have been looking for recent content to watch. Will be anxiously awaiting these next videos.
JIM WOLF TECHNOLOGY has been around quite awhile...i remember seeing their ads in Sport Compact Car magazine in the late 90s, lusting over their cams and computer upgrade for my '93 Altima (great little car) and, being young and broke, settling for a POP Charger intake and header instead lol.
Always wanted one of these especially when the Twin Turbo came out. Alas, that was 1991 and I was getting married and didn’t have the money to spend on any 2-seat sports car. In ‘87 I had a Supra Turbo which was phenomenal (and heavy, I know), but got rid of it about a year later to dump the car payment and save for a ring. Fortunately I’m still married to the same Bride. I will get one of those TT Zs or another MK3 Supra Turbo someday.
I personally always wanted a MK IV Supra. The Supra vs the 300ZX was a great debate between myself and a friend in HS. But the Supra has ended up being highly desirable. To get one that's post 1995, twin turbo, and 6 speed, - in good shape - is hard to find for less than $35k. And more or less downright impossible for under $30k. High mileage or with problems? Sure you can find them for less than that, but then you're talking about a project car at that point. I've more or less given up the idea of ever owning one. It just feels like it makes more sense to me to buy an MX5. Get that beautiful convertible hardtop, 180HP (which is plenty in a car that small/light) and call it a day.
Always a good feeling traveling to buy a car ,then doing a road trip to get it back home . A mixture of excitement and interpretation especially when it’s a classic , will it get you back ?, is always in the back of your mind !
Great choice. I had a 90 Z32TT 15yrs ago in my 20s. It was always a dream car. Part of me wants to get another one, but the Z33 Nismo also has my eye. Anyway, I'm sure you have plans for the car, but from a high value mod perspective I suggest getting some bronze shifter bushings if you're wanting to firm up the shifter.
I can totally relate to the excitement of driving a new used car back home after having flown to another state to get the car. I bought a 1996 Nissan Maxima 5 speed with 70k in Texas and my current 2011 Golf GTI in Oregon, and drove them back to San Diego.
Those were great cars for their time! I had a black over red Eclipse turbo and it was fast, quiet and solid. It had great aero. The faster it went, the better it hugged the road. Wish they still made them!
I do like the Z’s of the 90s but the Rx7 was lighter and more nimble and more fun to drive. I bought a 92 rx7 back in 92 and test drove the Z, superas etc
Well done. I totally share your enthusiasm. Welcome back to the Z club! Also, people lust over the manual, however an Auto with a valve body modification is 'Excellent' to drive being very responsive and with super quick gear changes they fly and can still drive them like a granny if need be. I have both manual and auto cars but enjoy the Auto Z around the twisties just as much. Just saying. May I suggest, when you get the chance, do the water plenum bypass and get a one piece aluminium tailshaft from Shaft Masters. Happy days!
I also had a 1991 twin turbo pearl white 5 speed, with 18” 3 piece speed line wheels, greedy cat back exhaust and k&n air filter. Certainly missed that car 😕😫
Awesome choice! You say it’s the most powerful car in your driveway and for 24k it’s a great price! That’s how I feel about my 93 TT supra. It was a high powered sports car that is attainable at low ish price and reliable.
I have a 1987 NA 300ZX. I keep thinking about selling it but every time I drive it I change my mind. Maybe someone will come along and make an offer I can't refuse.
You got a killer car!! I think you picked a better car. Pauls Porsche in this series is so ugly, I'm surprised that the designer wouldn't have had better car taste. Todd, you have better car taste, you have a Lotus and a 300zx twin turbo good for you! I'm excited to see where this series goes, keep on making great videos. I will also listen to your podcast!
"You can't say 'here's my roomy sports car', it's kind of like saying 'here's my tiny stadium'" -Todd. "You could have landed alien spacecraft on people's lawns and they would have still stopped to look at this car" -Paul.
That looks amazingly well preserved, Todd, with just a touch of updates where needed. But, please, please, please, tell me what exhaust that is? I can not seem to find an aftermarket setup as quiet as yours appears to be. I drive cross country in my `90 all the time but the drone is absolutely killing me.
I love Todd's taste in cars. Never pretentious. Just a genuine car guy that likes engaging vehicles of all makes and shapes. Well done, sir!
Thank you! - Glad to have you watching. There's a lot to come with these cars!
I also love that he is not one of those douchbags that says things like... "While this car is slow by todays standards...". Or... "This isn't very fast...".
He is like "No, this is still damn fast. Maybe not as fast as some of the crazier shit that's out today, but it is exhilarating to drive."
And he is right, those are still powerful cars.
I am buying a BRZ because of Todds experience with his FRS
@@michaelthebarbarian3380 sooo true!

Yes, the multi-link front suspension was revolutionary on the 300ZX and the Q45.
I own 4 300ZX TT's and I've been a Z32 owner for 21+ years and this video made me want to buy one more Z32, lol. I freaking love these cars!
I love how Todd is talking to his son and to us! What a great road trip!

Woo! Beautiful car! I’m loving my Z32 TT with 170,000 miles as a daily.
One of the most beautiful cars of all time.....
The rx 7 was so tiny inside . My knees hurt so bad when i drove in my girlfriends
Agreed. This car is so underrated compared to its contemporaries.
So cool. I have the exact same car, year, color, engine, and transmission, and JWT tune. I have 105,XXX I love my Z so much. can't wait to here you all compare the car to modern stuff. I drove a m2 competition that was the most fun I have had in a modern car.
one of my dream cars, i will always regret not buying one when they weren't worth much!
Enjoy! Great choice. Nice stories. Looking forward to more.
Thank you so much for making this! I recently bought my own 91 Z32 TT and have been looking for recent content to watch. Will be anxiously awaiting these next videos.
Awesome to have you with us. Lots more to come!
I envy you very much, that was one of my favourite during high school
Congrats!!!!!!!!! Yeah since moving to Utah, Z ownership is SO much better. Just watch for Deer!!
Beautiful car, congratulations; great to see Montana too; lived there for a while, still have a longing for the Big Sky county.
One of the best GTs made bofore the 00s out there and very affordable also.
Great choice, Still Gorgeous & Timeless!! Would love to see an early first gen (1990-91) Talon tsi or Eclipse gsx on the show one day..
Those were great cars for their time! I had a black over red Eclipse turbo and it was fast, quiet and solid. It had great aero. The faster it went, the better it hugged the road. Wish they still made them!
Ok, I'm jealous. I have always wanted a 300-ZX of that body stile. I had an 1985 model and really enjoyed it. She was stolen in '01 though.
I do like the Z’s of the 90s but the Rx7 was lighter and more nimble and more fun to drive. I bought a 92 rx7 back in 92 and test drove the Z, superas etc
One of my favorite cars ever
Happy days!
This vs. the new Z will be great.
It's clear who's the driver, and who's the driver. Nice finds.
TT 300zx maybe the best japanese car ever made, rather have that over a godzilla, and it still looks great, congrats!!!
Lookin back on it, those were pretty damn cool cars!
Very nice car. Motorsports feel and not commutersports like the cars of today.
jspec tail lights stat! Incredible.
I have a 1987 NA 300ZX. I keep thinking about selling it but every time I drive it I change my mind. Maybe someone will come along and make an offer I can't refuse.
"National parks are better in sports cars" - couldn't agree more
You got a killer car!!
I hope this one is a keeper/family heirloom!
Great car!
I remember lusting after them when they came out 🤩
I'm building a 1967 Mercury Cougar to be my GT car...should be fun!
I looked at this car since it was local to me. Nice grab.
Great vid! I have ‘95 Z32TT and agree with your takes
Awesome choice this car is older than me
11:42 yesss i did this w my e64 m6 - flew to kansas and drove home to ny
gr8 way to buy a car
if yall r ever in ny/nj/pa/mass/vt/etc and wanna drive a 3 pedal e64 m6 hmu
Great series!
That paint is begging for a paint correction!
I love this content brilliant so honest well done!
That car is beautiful.
"Film industry"? Come on Todd, we know you were in Backdoor Girls 5.
God I LOVE this car..just glorious!
"You can't say 'here's my roomy sports car', it's kind of like saying 'here's my tiny stadium'" -Todd. "You could have landed alien spacecraft on people's lawns and they would have still stopped to look at this car" -Paul.
Do not ask me how many times I watched your 300zx vs 350z vs 370z review.
Bluetooth cupholders? AMAZING! :-)
Kate the fox! Gotta love it!
These have aged so well.
I LOVEEEE Z32s
congratulations... success!
This actually has the Stillen exhaust on it. To my great surprise, it isn’t loud and it doesn’t drone.
@@EverydayDriver Ugh, of course, another system no longer available. Back to the original plan of cutting and welding.
Try a Borla cat-back.
@@jeffzaczkowski discontinued and also listed as one of the 5 loudest exhausts on the Z32
Wow thanks, I thought borla was a full muffler system like stillen. Guess you'll have to make your own or find a used stillen.
These cars were boss in the 90s
