Thank you for your comment -- I can so relate. That is great news, that Patty has been there for you in her own way, helping you to keep living! I think Patty is a powerful healer. She has been for me and helped me find a way forward, every day when I listen to her. I know she is human, yet I like to think of her as part Goddess.
I know that...I didn't mean for it to sound the way it did, lol. I just thought it serendipitous/ironic in that moment I guess I think everything is related for some reason. Anyway, sorry for sounding like a weirdo.
Being a therapist supervisor in Orlando after the Pulse nightclub shooting and now during the fascist governmental over-reach, this has a special meaning . Thanks Patty!!!
@@coled2048 Sorry, I don't agree with you. Can you explain fascist governmental over-reach and explain who you are referring to? When we use the term Fascist so easily, it dehumanizes your political enemies that promotes an environment of political violence.
High-school was a hard place for many of us. I'm reminded of a conversation that got recorded and stuck up here - between Micheal Moore and one of the guys who made "South Park." They'd gone to high-school together and were remembering how they were both fringe-element losers there. The alpha-teens - the football quarterback and the head cheerleeder - still live in that town, and sell insurance to each other.
@@pattygriffin3232 Hi Patty!! I love you and your powerful voice, that is your songs, living through you. I strive to keep coaxing my voice out in music. I love how you say that you begin with the words, to voice what you want to say, then fit the music to the song. I am close to writing my own songs and that gives me a notion of where to begin. Thank you from my heart for being you!
i had the pleasure of meeting Patty back in 1999 in NYC thru a mutual friend - and I begged her manager to allow me to make a video for this Beautiful Song TONY. Sadly I was told it was not a song they were promoting (at the time). Still holds up after all of these years.
Patty recorded this song when many still considered it to be ‘career suicide’ to explore queer themes. And she did it so boldly. What an amazing artist she is.
Can I just say that the drummer is working overtime and you don’t even realize it. He’s playing a shaker, a snare, kick drum and cymbals. All very quietly, I might add. That’s impressive. I can barely walk and chew gum.
@The Darren Hunter -- I can barely imagine what the pain of a loss like that would feel like. I would turn to Patty too, especially were I in your shoes. I'm a 'female Tony' you could say and Patty's music soothes me immeasurably, making perpetual forward motion a possibility.
@@DarrenHunterWritingCoach Thank you (Darren, I presume?)! I like that; that you are sending me love and light; much more substantive than 'hope and prayers'. Please accept the love and light I am sending you.

“Flaming Red” is my first Patty record. Masterpiece of songwriting and production.
So true, such a great LP. She covers a lot of it in "Sessions on West 54th Street," amazing live.
I am a Tony and I didn't blow my brains out cause people like Patty Griffin exists in this World.

Such a great songwriter and storyteller. Amazing voice.
One extremely powerful piece of songwriting here, folks. Patty, we love you.
I think she's one of the greatest storytellers we will ever have the pleasure of being entertained by.

Like a sucker punch to the heart every time I hear that line 😭

You should make one anyway as a tribute. Just don't profit from it and it will be respected?
Such a huge talent !!!

great line Patty!

does anybody have lyrics to this song PLEASE
Does anyone remember Tony
A quiet boy, little over weight
He had breasts like a girl
When I wasn't too busy feeling lonely
I'd stare over his shoulder
At a map of the world
He always finished all his homework
Raised his hand in homerooom
He called the morning attendance
With the pledge alligence to the gloom
Hey Tony, what's so good about dying
He said I think I might do a little dying today
He looked in the mirror and saw
A little faggot starin back at him
Pulled out a gun and blew himself away
I hated every day of high school
It's funny, I guess you did too
Its funny how I never knew
There I was sitting right behind you
They wrote it in the local rag
Death comes to the local fag
I guess you finally stopped believing
That any hope would ever find you
Well I know that story,
I was sitting right behind you
Hey Tony, what's so good about dying
He said I think I might do a little dying today
He looked in the mirror and saw
A little faggot starin back at him
Pulled out a gun and blew himself away
Hey Tony whats so good about dying, dying
Hey Tony whats so good about dying, dying
Hey Tony, what's so good about dying
He said I think I might do a little dying today
He looked in the mirror and saw
A little faggot starin back at him
Pulled out a gun and blew himself away
Pulled out a gun and blew himself away

Anyone know when and where this was recorded? Who the band members are?
Not sure when but it’s Austin city limits
