I arrived here after seeing a comment accompanying a video of Patty singing her brilliant song. And I am literally stunned! I never thought I'd see the day when a mainstream, mega-successful, Nashville country act would have the courage to cover this song. Musically, it is fabulous. But the powerful lyrics and the passion in their performance adds up to something that transcends talented musicians doing what they do! Kudos!
❤️❤️❤️❤️ I cried when I heard this. So beautiful. As a gay man I am so thankful for this song. I’ve felt this way many times. Thanks you Sugarland. You’ve always had my love and support!
I have had to listen to this song several times now. I even looked up the lyrics to really understand what the song is all about. I was born in the sixties and grew up mostly in the seventies and eighties. The words ring so much truth. As a young boy, bullies were around every corner. I have to admit that I had been bullied and also bullied some kids. I think back to things we did and said and makes me really sad to think what was going through the minds of the people getting bullied. We as kids put the importance of things, that are really not that important, ahead of the needs of others. Now I have kids and I really put into their minds that bullies are bad. I want to thank Sugarland for this awesome cover song from Patty Griffin. I also would like to say I'm sorry to the people that I bullied or felt that I bullied them. God Bless With the way the world is going today all we have are the friendships we start and maintain. #cometogetherasfriends
Thank you for this song! I have loved you for years. This song truly touches me personally. I am a Lesbian and did not come out until I was 37. After a marriage and 2 children. Growing up was difficult. Living in a rural community where alternative life styles where not accepted, religious based beliefs and ignorance drove family and the community. It was never even an option to consider the thoughts and desires in my mind and heart. Get married..if you ever plan to have children was the only way. I would never change a thing. I love my girls. I wanted kids. Now an adults. The difficulties I see in society and in those around me still struggling with acceptance is heart breaking. Suicide and self harm where always close in my mind and even options at times. Thankfully, never successful. Yes other issuses than being a Lesbian contributed to the Suicide attempts. Again I just want to say thank you for this song. Helping bring awareness for others. ❤
So true my kids don’t hear that at home shelf them from hate hurts in so many ways I know I seen a lot of in high school hillbilly kids but they come hillbilly parents lol but when I was younger I was not alowed to hate in grade school and never seen it in grade school but I got high school I seen a lot of it so I make sure my kids don’t see it or hear it and it hard at times but I see. It. More with city people about being hater it sad
From the day I first saw this I've listened to it multiple times a day. It's a wonderful thing for Sugarland to do this song. I have friends and family that are part of the community and I know their struggles. Thanks for stepping up and doing what's right.
I know I made comment already but I was In tears when I posted it know I've heard the song several times what a performance Jennifer nettles has best voice in country brilliant
It's hard when you are bullied just for who you love in life. Growing up I was scared to say I was gay, and had a girlfriend I love. Luckily I have a mom who accented me no matter what, and told that if people make fun of you just know you'll never see them again, but their probably just jealous of your happiness too! Thank you Sugarland for supporting the LGBT community!!! You guys really are the best!!!
One of my favorite heartbreaking songs. Patty is a genius and this is an AMAZING version. Thank you, Patty. Thank you, Sugarland. We see you as allies and we love you.
Thanks for making this Sugarland! Hurts to hear this, reminds me of being bullied in high school for being gay too. Thankfully I got through it, but not everyone did.
One of my favorite songs of all-time, and to see it interspersed with these statistics and messages of love and acceptance has me completely bawling my eyes out. Thank you for this. Y'all are the definition of allies. Thank you.
Love how much passion she and he puts into this song, it helps me to know they love their lgbt 🏳️⚧️ 🏳️🌈 community I’m an open gay/non-binary person I’m 35 and I appreciate singers letting there fan base that they love them and thank them for supporting us all
Sad song... Great video..and... Even at 56 years old ..I'm bullied.. When does it stop before we lose more lives ..Like Tony. Hope its a Hit..!! With everyone . The message is strong... Tears...
@Sugarland -- thank you for this! Your participation in the country music scene and willingness to put yourselves out there for us is admirable! Showing empathy is a sign of strength, in my opinion.
Thank you Sugarl&. I've been a big fan for years. I recently attended your concert in Raleigh, NC and unlike other country music concerts I've been to over the years, I did feel at home there.
This song gives me chills and shivers about how nasty some people are. People are people and everyone has the right to feel safe. This makes me so proud to be a Sugarland fan.
This song isn’t about being bullied. It’s about the pain of being young, being different from others, and losing hope that your life will be good. Young people need encouragement. Be kind to everyone. Every single one.
One of dozens of brilliant songs by the great Patty Griffin. Great cover! Thoughts and prayers go out to Patty given the recent news of her battle with breast cancer.
Bless you for doing this, I gained a lot of respect for you over this. I got to see Patty Griffin do this live the first time I saw her live and met her. Such a humble, lovely lady! My Mom's Sister loved you guys, I think she saw you 5 times before she passed. I wonder what she would think of you doing this song. I would hope she is smiling down from Heaven. peace.
i had the pleasure of meeting Patty back in 1999 in NYC thru a mutual friend - and I begged her manager to allow me to make a video for this Beautiful Song TONY. Sadly I was told it was not a song they were promoting (at the time). Still holds up after all of these years.
Hopefully Chely Wright gets re-welcomed with open arms for coming out. Unfortunately it appeared to hurt her career. It shouldn't have! Love is love!! Thank you, Jennifer Nettles/Sugarland for using your beautiful voices!!
Questo pezzo rimane comunque uno dei miglior mixaggi su YT poi può non essere di vostro gusto ma io lo trovo fantastico e i Sugarland rimangono nei posti migliori del mio giardino musicale. Grande professionismo.
MichaelPowers911 I completely agree and I know Dolly Parton absolutely loves Jennifer and wanted her and nobody else to play her Momma in the two movies. Dolly said it’s Momma (regarding Jennifer’s performance) and we know Dolly was taught LOVE tremendously by her Momma. Dolly stated how very proud she is of Jennifer Nettles!
I TOTALLY agree. I've honestly struggled to find the words to describe Jennifer Nettles that really capture the depth and all of the greatness there is to her. Your post sums it up perfectly. I didn't even pay attention to her or Sugarland until about a year ago when I stumbled upon a random youtube video of them. I don't know if I had been living under a rock or if there are just a lot of people who haven't been exposed to her, but she really is incredible in so many ways and I think she is waaaayyyyyy underrated.
This song gave me chills and made me cry. I am so glad you guys are back together. Love every song you guys write. I can't wait to see you guys in concert my husband is gonna be so surprised when I surprise him for his birthday.
Thank you so much for being inclusive. I can't express how much I love this and wish it had been available when I was growing up. I hope this song reaches people and helps.
Thank you for standing up for us. We are so grateful to all of you for this. We really need all your supports and efforts to make our LGBT lives safer and more free. Thank you, Sugarland❤
I feel for any human being that is struggling with anything like this. No one should take their life for being gay. Many people understand and will support you. Please remember this!!!!!
I've never heard this song before I'm 21 and I'm transgender I love sugarland this song made me cry my bloody eye's out my best friend was gay and took his Owen life I wish he could have heard this song i miss u hun xx
I am a 65 yr. old GAY man. During my years of schooling (7 thru 12 grade) I was constantly harassed, and beat on, just for being gay. Life in the 60's was supposed to be about peace and love, but it took along time for people to catch up on that. Kudos to Patty Griffin and Sugarland for showing great strength performing "Tony". It's a song every LGBTQ person can relate to. So brutally honest. Now l live my life alone due to some people's stupidity and bigotry. Also kudos to Mellisa Ethridge for her songs i this same vain. At least some people are finding the courage to speak out, and remind the masses that we are human too. Don't try to shove your antiquated ideas about GOD on me. I am a religious person, but my GOD doesn't promote hate, just kindness and love.
Thank you so much for helping the LGBTQ community it is so reassuring that it is ok to be who we are, I was so scared to come out of the closet but i finally did, and it feels amazing!
THANK YOU SUGARLAND AND PATTY GRIFFIN. TOO MANY OF OUR KIDS ARE.LEAVING TOO SOON. WE MUST PROTECT THEM, LOVE THEM, AND GUIDE THEM. IT REALLY IS TIME TO STOP THE HATE.😣😣😣😢😢😢
Absolutely incredible. Sugarland, it's easy to NOT be an ally: just don't say anything. It's hard to BE one: you have to actively put yourself out there, which opens you up to the same bullying and hatred that marginalized communities experience.
I never once put down or made someone hurt because of their sexuality. If someone is happy being who they are and allowed to be free to be themselves then there wouldn't be so many suicides. I've had gay friends, and they are awesome! They can help a girl out on how to dress let me tell you. I wouldn't change my friends for anything! It's a shame that Tony was pushed so far that he took his own life. R.I.P. Tony
I found out about this song from a GREAT FRIEND of mine PATRICK MASSE he is an an LGBTQ country singer in Canada I HOPE YOU LOOK HIM UP . this song reaches to my heart a lot!!!!!!!!
