If you get into trail running, it's slippery slope to fast packing. It's great to hear it's been smooth coming off trail for you both, I bet it's going to be great for richie to have his own bed back.
I would hope people don't jump too quickly into referring to themselves as 'depressed' after a time post TA. My concern of that is - people may be too quick to medicalise their condition, and thereby seek remedies along those avenues. Perhaps people can step back a bit and more rightly call it grieving, or sadness. Both of which are normal to feel, and experience as a response to a period of loss, and/or change. People will be affected in their own time and space. I asked a previous TA this morning when they referred to themselves as having depression after they completed their through walk of TA. My question to them was "how did you know you were depressed?" ... The importance of supports ...
You're exactly right! I even heard of someone doing a masters thesis on "trail depression" and found it was really a deep sense of grief from the loss: loss of purpose, loss of relationships, loss of being outdoors, etc. The grief is real and needs to be acknowledged and dealt with in a health way, not medicated. Thanks for bringing this up.
Well, of course, the big change that you seem to have overlooked is that you have both become celebrities. Maybe you can both use that new superpower. Kurt, you have indeed gained a voice. Richie, I'm sure you can do the same. That superpower could help you both unleash whatever exciting developments you desire in life. Kurt's new bodybuilding channel, maybe, and Richie's thru-hike comparison channel... The world is your oyster.

That's the plan!

Richie is the most talkative in this episode. He was very quiet on the Te Araroa
Note: he was very quiet while ON VIDEO when on the TA. Once the camera was off...not so much. 😂

I really hope you had your tongue firmly planted in your cheek when you wrote this! 😂

In some ways. But in other ways I love civilian life!
