    dude youre becoming the internets foremost floppy expert. I've already fixed a floppy drive with your older video. next thing should be using a scope for alignment and diagnostics.

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164  2 года назад

      Thanks, I thought about getting the scope onto it in that video, I saw no point though - the software there on the Amiga is better than trying to do it with a scope imho. Might be useful for another drive on another system though.

    Nice job. I needed to do a lot of what you did fixing up my old IBM laptop drive. I found taking that top plate that the top head rests on, out of the drive. Made aligning the top and bottom heads much easier. After you do that, the top and bottom heads sit on top of each other and you can clearly see if they are aligned. You just need to get your head in there with a good bit of light.

    This video and the previous one you did about another damn 235 are by far the best and the most in depth I've watched on the topic. Your perseverance is admirable. Can you please clarify what you mean by "adjusting the PCB" for the track 0?

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164  2 года назад +2

      Yes, that PCB (on the first model drive in this video) has elongated holes (not circular) - and the screws can be loosened allowing the PCB to slide one way or the other, and since the track 0 sensor is on there the alignment from track 0 follows with that movement.

    Great work gadget! I have the same problems with some teacs and epsons, spent hours, maybe i give them another try. Didn't know there were ball bearings on the top of the spindle, i have one drive which i think is missing the ball bearings.

    Scored a "broken" A500 for cheap years ago with a bad floppy detect switch. I couldn't fix the switch so I just bodged a leaf switch into the mechanism that closed when a floppy was inserted.

    Super movie !! 🔥🔥🔥 !! . It's a pity that 20 or 30 years ago we didn't have access to RUclips and such knowledge and specialists. ps: can the chip memory (2Mb) in the Amiga 1200 be replaced with a larger one (8, 16 or 32 mb - and faster with faster access)? has anyone tried this? does the addressing go through the AGA integrated circuit or through the ROM?

    • @GadgetUK164
      @GadgetUK164  Год назад

      The 2MB Chip RAM limit was never passed by released Commodore hardware. You can get around it in emulation, and maybe the Vampire (with AGA chipset replication) it technically might be possible... What you can do on the 1200 is add a load of ZIII local Fast RAM to a CPU card. eg. TF1260 or TF1230.

    • @newsolution5669

      @@GadgetUK164 Yes. I know. I also have a winUAE emulator. But I always thought that emulation was a blind crew. It's nice that there is WinUAE because it allows you to test many things, but we have to solve old problems from the past (we have to solve Commodore's problems). and we only need a few things to be happy. we need a new motherboard for Amiga fully compliant with the standard and new elements such as USB, network card, new sound card, graphics card with many connectors, and new solutions. without emulation if possible. the most important thing is to go one step further. that's why I asked about the 2 Mb limit to bypass it. If there was more memory on the chip, it would be possible to do more and faster.

    • @GadgetUK164

      Kapton tape has really poor adhesion!!! Even the good stuff is nowhere near as sticky as something like sellotape =/ I think its deliberatly designed that way - to avoid leaking sticky residue on the components / board etc when used!
