Thanks for the info on the drives. I had an Archimedes 310 when they came out, but sold it. A while ago I bought one from Ebay which was advertised as working but there seems to be a problem with the drive as it's giving errors on a few floppy discs I've tried - as well as the hard drive. I haven't had time to look inside the case yet to see if it's something simple.
Might be a the way the heads write on the 3010 vs the 3000. Maybe the 3010 drives do no honor the fact the DD disc has no HD notch and the write current is not adjusted.

Yeah my A3010 ignores the HD hole on the disk also, often when I was a kid I was able to format DD disks as HD without any issues
