Just watched "American Beauty" for the first time in a very long time. I had forgotten how incredible this version of "Beautiful" really is. What a shame we lost this man so soon.
Elliot Smith and Jeff Buckley both sang with a purity and uniqueness that was angelic. Sadly, they both died young leaving us wanting more of their artistic talent.
Actually his death is considered "open case." Authorities and his girlfriend called it suicide (And had a history of suicidal behavior), but he had defensive wounds and multiple wounds to his torso, which makes it look like homicide. He had drugs for depression in his system, but the dosage was at a prescribed level. So his death is a mystery. He was a very talented musician, and this was one of the best covers of a Beatles song that I ever heard.
No offense to John, Paul & George...but Elliott's pitch and tone are perfect! This wins as the best Beatles cover ever! God Bless ES for leaving us this....
