Is it weird to miss someone you never met and never could have had a chance of getting to know? It must be strange for his friends and family to see such adoration from fans. But this man and his work significantly affected my life. All we have are these clips now, and that's the only side of him I have ever known. But his words and music have been in my head half my life now. I don't know. I wish things had been so so different.
You can bet his friends and family wish things had been different, too. He deserved so much better than the pain he felt that drove him to abuse drugs and alcohol. While I know he was more than just a depressed sad sack, there's no doubt that he suffered a lot, especially toward the end if we're to believe his girlfriend and what she's said about her time with him. Abusing his prescription meds destroyed his brain, and he knew that. I wish he had found a better way to deal with his emotional problems.
You'll forever be a better, albeit, sadder Individual for understanding him, and every other person whom society casts aside for being true to themselves and denying the mould society approve for you
Hmmm, I would say someone like Noel Ghallagher from Oasis was far better as an artist who had a very prolific sound of his own which was all down to his specific chords, can't really argue seeing as he used the blue print set by the beatles.
@@jackgreenway4646 I grew up playing songs by Elliot Smith and Oasis. The difference is Elliot's song structures often sound simple on the surface, like Gallagher's, but when you delve into them or try to learn them, you realise they are far more complicated to play than they sound. Meanwhile, Noel's songs are still just basic intuitive open chord progressions that any beginner can play.

What do you love, his music or his persona? I don't care for his music much, but he seemed like the sweetest, most gentle, compassionate, humble person. I wish he were still alive just so he could still be enjoying the beautiful things in life and his friends and family could still be making happy, or fun, or hilarious memories with him.

@@endlessnameless6494which breakup are you referring to? The one with the supposed love of his life Joanna Bolme? I was lucky enough to see Elliott on this tour. It was at the Filmore in SF. I was actually surprised at how amazing he sounded and how well he played considering I think he was in a pretty intense downward spiral at this point. This footage looks like it could be from that show tbh.

I was really into the label Kill Rock Stars and they would include a mail catalog in all their releases. This is where I discovered Elliott Smith. The first album I bought was either/or. From the opening of speed trials I knew I’d found a special artist. He wrote lyrics that spoke to me and his guitar playing was just outstanding. The world lost a beautiful soul when Elliott passed away. They’re have been some decent singer/songwriters to come along, but no one of the caliber of Elliott Smith.
