    The Lunar Pilot’s high accuracy quartz did it for me. I have the blue panda version. The fact that I don’t ever have to set the watch (seconds per YEAR!) makes it an obvious choice, considering it also doesn’t need frequent servicing. AND then, it’s a fraction of the cost, as well.

      I own the meteorite edition as well as several other mechanical options in the pricepoint. But indeed the accuracy and low cost maintenance of the lunar pilot makes me wear it much more often and with its rich history, frankly…the masterpiece of my collection.

    I own the manual speed master with acrylic glas but will buy the new 43,5 mm Bulova soon
    As prices are already coming down from msrp.
    Assembled in China but totally underrated for the heritage and performance!

    Thx for posting. Enjoyable and nice details. The inscription on the Lunar Pilot tells the story of Apollo 15. The Omega’s were government issued, so the astronauts had to give them back after the mission. The Bulova was a prototype that was given to the astronaut David Scott by Bulova. He kept it and eventually sold it at auction for $1.3M in 2015! I own Omega’s and love them … but have a soft spot in my heart for the super-accurate Lunar Pilot. I own the panda version. Both are iconic. Both are a joy to wear. Cheers.

      The Actual Lunar Pilot has only one thing in common with the original- The design, but the movement is totally different, the original Lunar Pilot had a no-date hand wound movement while the new one has a Quartz one, with 1/1000 of a second counter at 3' position, something the original didn't have. So for me, and that is MHO, the Actual Lunar Pilot is a wannabe watch, despite being a way more precise watch. And I have three of them, two black ones, one of them with date at 4', the other no date, and a "Panda", while I have 19 Speedies, from the Ref 145.012, to the 125, to the 176.014, to the X-33, to the "Holy Grail" 376.0822. And I prefer the Omega, ANY Omega to the Bulova just for that, so I use two Omegas, one "Pogue-Pepsi" and one Bulova in my two wrists daily just to be surrounded by Space Chronos............

    I love Omega and own a few, however I also own the Bulova, the Lunar was actually designed as a watch for NASA as the Speedy was an off the shelf chrono that was used for the space program. The Speedy has great history that is amazing, it is a great watch and I would love to have one in my collection....Now the Lunar has its own history, the timing equipment used on the space craft was made by Bulova and they made a "prototype" Moon watch that was used on the Apollo 15 mission and was worn on the moon, this is a reproduction of that watch....best part is the Omega retails for $7500 and the Bulova can be bought in the range of $400....I get the story, the history and the look of a Moon watch at a fraction of the cost,...that is a smart buy for me and honestly I will wear a Bulova a lot more than an Omega just because of the cost.

    First watch to break on the moon? Love the Lunar Pilot.

    • @jorgerobles628
      @jorgerobles628 7 месяцев назад +1

      The first timepiece to break on the first moon landing was the Digital Bulova in the cockpit of the Command module that stopped working, so One Moonwatch substituted it and stayed in the cockpit. The Omega who many people say "failed" or "Broke" only popped the crystal, but the movement was still ticking and fully functional, and when it went back to earth, the crystal was replaced and the movement cleaned, but not repaired. That was the Omega which was replaced by the Bulova Lunar Pilot. In the watchmaking industry, prototypes tend to be stronger than production models, and that was the case of the unique single sample Bulova. But when Bulova requested to NASA a new set of testings, the Bulova set of samples failed the testing or were under performing, while the Omega set were Re-Qualified. All that is on the NASA records.

      First watch to "ONLY" pop the crystal on the moon(Speedy). The Digital Bulova in the cockpit was a clock not a wristwatch. Plus the Bulova lunar Pilot WRIST WATCH crystal did not "POP" during several Moon walks. All Nasa records as well. @@jorgerobles628

      Y U hate the Speedy so much? There is no shame in admitting it is expensive and not everyone can buy one. This so called Lunar Pilot you praise has nothing in common with the Lunar Pilot you are yapping about. They are not even Bulova. Citizen owns them hence why it uses a Citizen quartz module. Meanwhile the 3861 caliber still has the DNA that the first Speedmaster had.
      Just because you cannot afford it, does not mean it is a bad watch. Reverse snobs are as annoying as the chuffed snobs. All of 'em clowns

    • @jorgerobles628
      @jorgerobles628 7 месяцев назад

      Battery watches can not be used in Extra Vehicular Activities coz the battery will drain very fast, stopping the watch unexpectedly, while a mechanical watch will not. That is why the NASA-certified Casio models and the Omega X-33 can only be used inside the cockpit but not in open space (EVAs). The Speedie that "Broke" just had the crystal popped out, but the movement was working properly, and when it returned to earth, a new crystal was installed, and the movement cleaned, not repaired, and then re-certified. In the meantime, in the first lunar landing, the Command Module's Cockpit clock, a Bulova electronic clock, failed and stopped giving time and had to be replaced coz it was not fixable. All those facts are in the NASA records. So good luck with your Lunar Pilot in your Moon trip!!!!! LOL!!!!

      @@jorgerobles628 where did I say that I will be outside of the cockpit? Good luck with your assumptions. Omega got broken no matter how certified it was. It's just marketing
      Forgot to say I will bring also my reliable titanium square gshock gmw b5000tva1, that puppy battery can last 22 months without any light exposure and just a small shot of light will make it work another 22 months.
