I BOUGHT THE MOON WATCH YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF!

- The Bulova Lunar Pilot moon watch is a relatively inexpensive timepiece with an AMAZING history. I've been eyeing up this particular watch for a while now and finally decided to pull the trigger and buy the Moon Watch you've (probably) never heard of! In this episode I go in to the history of this iconic watch and tell you all about how this Bulova ended up replacing an Omega Speedmaster on the Apollo 15 mission to the moon! Collecting watches doesn't have to be expensive, there's so many amazing pieces like this one, steeped in history that won't break the bank.

Swatch Group owns Tissot and Omega as well as many other brands and the ETA line of movements. Omega does NOT make Tissot, they are independent companies under one umbrella corp.
Thank you.
I was hoping someone would correct this.
While it was a cringe comment, I’m hoping he was trying to say “made by Swiss” and just had Omega on the brain.
I know I misspeak all the time so I suppose it’s possible.
At any rate, it definitely needed correcting so thank you!
I paused the video and came to the comments for this. Well done correcting that mistake!
Haha!!! That comment made me cringe. It's like saying this VW was made by Audi.
Exactly. This greasy dude lost me with that one.
When I was growing up, Bulova watches were the thing for the stylish folks and very much in demand and Timex for the general public (I'm 75). Thanks for taking me back in time a bit.
In Toronto the daily noon news was sponsored by Bulova . Its 12 o clock Bulova watch time. There was also a Bulova watch tower at the Canadian National Exposition. I collect vintage Bulovas. Oldest is 1953.
They're coming back I have 3 lol
2:54 Seems like an awesome shop - but saying Tissot is "made by Omega" is misleading at best. Tissot is owned by Swatch Group, operated under completely different umbrellas even though Omega and Tissot both are under Swatch. Tissot uses ETA (Swatch) movements, while Omega makes their own. They aren't made by the same people - just a heads up to any viewers!
Also the Hamilton shown here has very little ressemblance to the Elvis’ one, saying it’s Elvis watch is very misleading as well…
Tissot is, historically, the sister brand of Omega (like Tudor is to Rolex) since 1930 when they together formed SSIH, the precursor to the Swatch group. There are several older Tissot watches co-branded with Omega.
..but to sell a Tissot Ocean Seastar Automatic (Powermatic 80) for over $1000? Tisk Tisk. I mean, I am all for mark-ups, but that watch, MSRP is $725. Damn. Even the Seastar 2000 MSRP is $825.
Yeah, this guy is the reason that when I go to a watch shop, I shop and don't talk to the salesperson until I am ready to buy. I don't allow sales people to help me shop. If they follow me around the cases like this guy, I just look and leave then buy later online.
Cool episode. My first “expensive” watch I bought for myself is a Seiko Titanium Chronograph. People are amazed at how lightweight it is!
I appreciate how you open the door to us on new, interesting and affordable watches.
I love the way you rationalize your decision-making and how you don't let other distractions factor into your original reasoning. It's an amazing-looking watch. I love the story behind it. Congrats!
I know what I want! 😂
@@AdamSwords dude you have the same style as me! I love it! Always do you bro! Love your channel man!
Great Vid Adam, you have some great taste in watches/time pieces. Your knowledge is seriously getting better and better by the ⌚. Thanks for sharing and I love Bulova. 💯
Space graded speedmaster didn’t have saphire crystals, they were all acrylic crystals because saphire if it breaks makes tons of small glass pieces, acrylic does not.
Good to know!
None of the Speedmasters of that era had sapphire crystals (in fact, I don't think any watch did). They had what Omega called "armoured glass" or hesalite, which is a form of acrylic.
@@coopdivi armoured glass was acrylic with a brass or alloy ring on the inside diameter of the crystal. This is my understanding, which I’m happy to learn more about.
@@theGoonezone I think you are thinking of Apollo 13. Jack Swagart used it to time a mid course burn in the absence of the Nav computer.
Saphire never scratches acrylics does
Love the energy. Dude knows how to keep a video from going stale.
I just received my Bulova Moonwatch a week ago and now I come across your video. Seems that we learned about the watch and bought it pretty much at the same time. For me - somebody who needs a watch and is interested in space programs and such - the Lunar Pilot is no brainer. Great price range in relation to the quality plus its history. I also went for the version you chose and I wear it on the NATO strap which, in my opinion, is the best choice for it. The watch is highly legible (in light and dark) and its dial is not too busy (the design itself reminds me of the lunar craters), it has fantastic mechanism / movement of hands and kinda elegant but also specialistic look - all of that makes wearing it a pleasure for me. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in buying it.
Awesome!
I have the exact same watch. Bought it roughly a year ago and still love it to bits. Wore it on the nato strap for a while but swapped it for a Hadley Roma Kevlar strap (black with white stitching). You're gonna absolutely love it!
Ivan seems like a very positive and cheerful person, he might even be a watch aficionado, but you can clearly tell he does not know much about watches, he's just selling them.
To me it seems even worse than that, he's kinda twisting the reality... Like when says Tissot is great because it's made by Omega (both part of Swatch Group)... It's like saying Skoda is great because it's made by Lamborghini (both part of VW)... Not a very trustworthy seller...
@@ziplepingouin1186 Just what I was thinking.
He's a salesman, not an aficionado. I never listen to salespeople. I've been known to research dumb shit they say right in front of them and then tell them they are full of shit. All because what they told me sounded so outlandish. Never trust the salesperson.....never.
Never heard of?Lol,its one of the most known models.
Glad you’re well read on your watches!
Only well known in the watch community.
@@ohno316 never say never my friend. Stay safe and positive! 👍
@@hockingham7160 could say that about any watch other than a Rolex
@@AdamSwords Dam so rude of the guy not everyone is a watch nerd.
Awesome Adam, love the format, Please do more like this, you concentrate on the prices us mere mortals can afford on all sort of goods, from watches to cars and clothes and let Michael do the high end gear, look forward to the next one,, p.s as usual its raining here in the Lake district lol
For sure!
@@AdamSwords Have you had a look at the Sinn U1? I would love to see your reaction/review of it. It made out of Uboat steel.
@@ddaydingo7041 yeah it looks like a Lego watch lol but Sinn is quality
@@darrenfry4695 That’s true! Never thought about it. Lego is awesome and Sinn is quality. Nevertheless, Adam is obviously missing out on a lot of amazing brands.
Honestly, your videos each week are what I look forward too, I could literally watch 2 hr episodes and stay fully absorbed, Kudos to you Adam on your success!
Thanks Jon! That’s awesome to hear
Hi Adam. This was one of your better episodes. Great content well delivered. Well done 😀
More of this content! Love how you bring up different, not so hyped brands to your channel!
Glad you like it!
Great Episode Adam - Amazing choice of watch. Bulova is a great brand with fantastic history, I have the limited edition version and I love it 👌
Liked and subscribed! I have a Bulova Lunar pilot as well and it’s one of my favorite watches I own. A lot of history for little money in a great looking watch! Interested in what your next watch will be!
This is excellent Adam, I love your videos of expensive watches with Michael, but this is much more realistic for most people and proves that price isn't everything, these are still real quality watches that look fantastic, that watch you bought is stunning 👍
Best wishes from Dronfield nr Sheffield UK
my wife got me this watch for my 50th birthday this year, one of my favorite watches in my collections.
That first Tissot must've been hard to resist! I'm putting that on my list for sure.
Really enjoyed this Adam, good craic. 👍
really love the way your videos and the videos on the pm channel are spaced out now. Keep it up Adam, brilliant watch.
Cheers mate!
It takes me literally weeks and sometimes months to research and look at the next watch I want to buy. I love my collection of Seiko's, G-Shock's and Tissot's, but I have been looking at other brands, and the back story on this Bulova is what got me interested in this watch. And the fact that it is a great looking piece is why I want to get it.
Watching your video got me even more excited. And I would agree, that the silver cased model with the NATO strap is the way to go.
Do it! I love mine
Congrats on the new watch. It looked superb. Love these types of watch videos by you. Also love the seikos.
I got this watch last week and have been loving it!! Such a fun piece.
Awesome!
Good to see you getting deeper in to watch collecting Adam, that's what it's all about😁
Appreciate the video. I started my collection with bulova Accu-Swiss collection and worked my way up!! Thanks Adam for showing that small brand watches!!
Hey Adam, thank you for an excellent video. The tour of the shop was very interesting, and Ivan just knows so much and is such a nice guy. I am in Australia, so I bought from over here, but I bought the exact same watch as you. Isn't it funny, I was considering the MoonSwatch and things have led me down the path to the Bulova. I have a funny feeling that the Bulova, which actually has been to space, will last a hell of a lot longer than the Swatch, is so very much more accurate - at 10-15 secs per ANNUM, can be repaired should the need ever arise, and is not that much more expensive. I know that I have made the correct purchase. Thanks again for a very entertaining video. Cheers mate.
As much as I love Michael’s videos it was so nice to see so many beautiful watches I could actually afford. I have known of Bulova for years but never seen one that impressed me until today. I hope they have them in Australia at a reasonable price. Nice work Adam. Keep it up.
Onya mate.
Cheers mate!
Fellow Aussie here. Starbuy in Sydney is selling these and they’re generously discounted at the moment. I picked up the stainless steel version with nato strap for $399 - free postage. If you want the fancy box and extra strap it’s $499.
Adam your a man that now knows what real timepieces are, G-Shock, Luminox, Seiko, Tissot, Panzera and Bulova. Soooooo much greater engineered and incredibly built to go through any type of condition all the way to going to the moon. But for one thing if my beloved G-Shock was around in 1971 it would had been on the astronaut wrist, no doubt and you know it as well. Your Bulova is stupendous and Ivan is so cool and righteous!
Awesome video adam as always....next time put some watch shots in it too so we can really see what's Goin on...I'm buying this same one so this is good help as I was torn btw the black and the original.
Yes sir!
Thank you for bringing this watch to me. Iv now got one and love it. Love the story behind it. Thanks 👍
Starting to look round for a watch for my sons wedding, you've just mentioned two of the three makes I've been looking at, Bulova and Tissot the other being Citizen. I'm nowhere near buying top end stuff but I'm happy buying what I like in my bracket. Like you say they don't need to expensive, I bought three Fossil watches during the pandemic, ranging from £120 - £300 my first watches in about 30 years because of watching you and PM episodes about watches,so thanks for that.
That’s awesome, yeah you don’t have to spend a fortune to get quality
I'd go with Tissot ,they're quality watches and it's got the swiss stamp so for the money it's a must have, plus a wedding watch hell look back to the watch for memories ect so it needs to last and Tissot have top build quality. Good luck..
@@darrenfry4695 Cheers Darren appreciate the advice.
@@gareth36 Your welcome 👍
A lot of expensive watches are clever PR rather than expensive materials. You can pick up watches that retailed £10,000 to £30,000 for £2,000 to £4,000 after a few yrs, even less sometimes, for no reason other than popularity.......which is crazy
I have to say excellent work Adam, love the producer Michael show but definitely your videos give a insight to more obtainable watchs and things that are more realisticly achievable for the average person , A1
Just purchased that watch yesterday for an amazing price. So stoked. Keep up the great vids man
Congrats!
I love this little Watch store! Next time I’m visiting Corona Del Mar, I’m stopping by. Oh, I just picked up the Bulova Moon Watch. Had to have it.
Just ordered one…so liked the history as well as the watch, thanks for the review…you just cost me in the uk…cheers Adam, looking forward to receiving my watch in 3 days.
Haha awesome!
Received today…so impressed with build quality and looks…nice big watch…thanks
Great watch, saw this video and went out and bought one. It's a great discovery and love the story behind it.
Great video Adam! Keep it up bro :)
i'm impressed with your watch knowledge Adam!
I still remember when you called a watch case a "Cage", and look at you now, good to see how far you've come, thanks to Michael of course. BTW, bulova is definitely overshadowed by omega when it comes to moonwatches, i think they deserve more credit than they get, bcz they r gr8 watches especially at the price that they come at......
Hi Adam, since a while i do look forward to your videos for the next week. Reason is because you make awesome videos but especially because of your taste of things. like the watches or cars. congrats with your new watch, it is a beauty with an amazing history. And thank you for another cool video . Till next week 👍😊.
Thank you!
Excellent video Adam! Thanks for sharing.
really nice episode adam!! gz on the new watch!
Thanks Jesper!
Good choice Adam..I bought the exact same one years ago and wear it exclusively with the Velcro Nato also I still think it's the coolest and most true to the original with exceptional accuracy 😎👍
Yup!!
Thanks Adam, great episode and very enjoyable for those with a smaller wallet! I have bought one of these, due to the great back story as you stated and before they explode in price!
Excellent choice. I just added one to my collection and I couldn't be happier with the look and how well it sits on my massive wrist.
Glad you love yours too!
Same. I've owned one for 3 years now and have yet to replace the battery. It runs like a dream and it looks cool as hell on my nato strap.
Adam great that you have done a review of watches at affordable prices , currently looking at a Tissot or Longines , good choice you've made may consider Bulova it looks smart
Love the content man! I've seen something called TW Steel and would like to know what you think of the concept and can you see any of the higher end watches doing the same concept of them? It'd be good to know your thoughts on them.
Great watch Adam, but most people aren't sleeping on Seiko. The "top" 1% dont care about Seiko, the majority of the rest, us mortals, deffo know our Seikos :)
Would love to see a updated video of your latest watch collection, loving the vids keep them coming 🤟
Mucker love all the content you do the videos are great and I enjoy watching them keep it up pal have a good one Danny UK
Just bought the same watch Adam. Thanks for the review!
It's a well known watch in the watch community. I have this watch in the first edition sandblasted finish with commemorative box and two straps (one NATO strap and one carbon fiber strap included in the set). Basically the same watch that you got. It's a nice watch but slightly bigger for my wrist.
Thank you Adam! Good choice, nice watch! This time also very good research. 😊👍🏻
Haha thanks Tommy
great video Adam I like the contrast you present with these watches especially the Bulova much more down to earth (moon) and affordable than the ones we are used to with Michael but to my mind look every part as great as some of those $100K tourbillons
Waiting for mine to come in a week or two. So excited to use it!
Great video, need to go back and look at the other side of the shop. Great work Adam
Very cool, Man. Such a Great watch, wonderful salesperson/Businessman, very pleasant experience, seemingly.
They nailed the 2021 presage series. Great little shop with quality watches for normal people
Agreed!
Great video dude congrats on the new watch! Really like the Seiko’s! I’ve got a few in my collection, I’ve been fortunate enough to purchase my first Rolex this year! Keep up the amazing work Adam👍🏼
Thanks Josh!
My Bulova Lunar Pilot is coming today. Very excited.😊
Awesome video, I love watches and just bought a Bulova automatic on a bright orange strap and love it. Thanks again for a awesome video
Thanks!
Adam awesome video. Question how is your ERA Prometheus watch? I’m thinking about it and wanted to know if it worth the money.
I have the same one Adam and was tempted to also get the new version with the polished case and no date but that sand blasted finish on the old version is in keeping with the original.
Make more of this watch content Adam, seeing this about affordable watches and your unbiased attitude towards watches is enjoyable. The Rolexes etc. on the other channel are getting a bit of tiresome.
Glad you’re enjoying!
I just started my watch collection this past year and the Lunar Pilot is my favorite and most appealing in the collection.
Nice watches! I totally agree about not having to spend too much to get a watch that is both good quality, and a pleasure to wear. I have a Tissot v8 that i really like.
👍🏻
Hi Adam. Thanks for a very interesting vid. Loke yourself I have akways been aware of Bulova but don't own one. Because I do own the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch and also on looking around at thr pricing at limited production of the Special one I have decided to buy this one which I have just ordered right this very minute. Once again, thanks for bringing this watch to my attention. Cheers Rod
I just got a bulova for Christmas and it’s so good. In love with the design.
The watch seller doesn’t know about that Tissot Seastar 2000. He said automatic 200 meter water resist. The 2000 stands for 2000 feet water resist, equals to 660 meter.
Then he said made by Omega when Tissot helped omega get on there feet.
Love this watch. Just wish it were a tad smaller
I just picked up your video by chance. I'm also looking for a Bulova, I wanted to buy the 50-year anniversary model but I'm like you: I prefer the original version with all its incredible history. I can't afford to have a Speedmaster, but I would still have a watch that went to the moon.
A Frenchman who loves watches with a history !
Cool video, I’m a watch guy and you rarely see a video like this that shows what the watch looks like without all the fancy lighting and angles
Really agree with Adam you don't need to break the bank to enjoy a watch. Its a personal taste, a story about the watch or a achievement you have had in life attached to the watch you bought at the time
Bulova is a *GREAT* Watch! My first Watch was a Bulova and I still have it. You won't be let down by it.
Yup!!
This was interesting to watch Adam, never heard of Panerai but I found it to be a gorgeous watch, out of my price range but if ever I was to get all 6 #’s it would be my 1st investment. This video gets a 2’fer Adam 👍👍
Great review and great watch. But is there a reason why the subdials are different from the original, i mean in terms of what they do. Thanks
That’s a Bulova question haha
I'm new to the Watch hobby, great Video.👍
Congrats on the watch Adam enjoy it in good health. I love the Lunar Pilot wearing that watch gives you a lot a watch nerd street cred, maybe get a vintage spaceview nex.
I love my Lunar Pilot. I got the shiny one with the old-style Bulova logo. No date, alas. I like the distinctive pushers and the case shape. And the sunken index track and subdials look great.
Another great video Adam keep up the good work also nice buy that would of bin my choice to
🤘🏻
Thanks man i will get this watch to my collection 👌🙏👍
You should!
I've heard of it...in fact I picked one up about 2 months ago lol. It's a bit big and I wish it was mechanical (although then it would have been too expensive), but I really do like it. I went with the other version, with the metal bracelet myself. Great watch.
Sidenote actually, if yours didn't come with the little booklet regarding Bulova and the lunar missions, you can still get one if you reach out to Bulova directly via email. I bought my watch off Amazon and it only took an email and a serial number check for them to send one free of charge.
I like when he said “full automatic”. I normally buy semi autos as they tend to be 50 state legal. 🤣
Ahahahahahah
Just don't buy the fully semi automatic. You'll need your papers in order to get through the checkpoints. 😂😉
I have 7 Tissots and 3 Rados. Each of them are of better quality than any Tag Heuer or even some Breitlings and Tudors. Good doesn't always have to be expensive. Look in to Rado ceramics and Longines. You will not be disappointed. I always say a Longines is a poor man's Grand Seiko and a Rado is a poor mans Rolex.
There’s another version of this watch. It’s the 96A225 model. In my opinion it’s more faithful to the original. It’s a no date watch and the Font for the Bulova brand on the dial is the same as the original watch. They are all very good watches and I love the one I have
Great job Adam.
Great video brother wear your Bulova Moon Watch in great health.
Thank you!
Good video and great watch. I have the same one and love it!
Hey my friend, that was a cool video! I love the lunar pilot and been thinking about treating myself to this same model. Would you provide an update of your ownership? How long have you been sporting it? Thank you and congratulations!
I wear it on occasion, it’s great!
When you said the moon watch, I got excited, thinking it was the new G-Shock moon, that was released in China four days ago. You need that watch mate, I have mine on order and they look amazing!
Love to see a little more mainstream brands! Thanks for the video
First time watching your video. And it's soo satisfying..
Glad you enjoy it!
Great choice Adam!
Speaking of moonwatch there is one of the Omega Speedmasters that's in your brand colour : The Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8. I know it's a totally different price category but I just wanted to let you know this one because I think it would go very nice, one day (hope for you 😉), next to your Sub! I'm also a very big fan of this speedy model (well I own one) because the all black them and the, I would say, mango yellow in real life is SO stuning!
I’ll check it out
Love the videos bro… any chance of a week vlog of the life of Adam really interested in the crazy things you get up to plus what you do day to day
I’ll see what I can do!
I just found out about this watch after considering a MoonSwatch. Glad I found this as a lot of long term users aren't happy with the MoonSwatch.
Great history lesson…! Didn’t know that. Now I have to find one. Dang…
Thanks for the info Adam my local watch shop has them in cheeky purchase I think!!
cool video adam , nice watches
Bulova lunar pilot !!! Very very very nice watch ! Good choice 👍
