Idea for a video: How dialects influence our singing. I’m a language and linguistic nerd, it’s super interesting to know how where we live influences how we speak/sing
I'm from the UK but I always get this odd irish fold when I sing; super weird.
ruclips.net/video/JRKJGeLEZK0/видео.html
what's your thoughts ?
And some ideas for examples- Sophie Ellis Bextor and Missy Higgins (because they very obviously sing with their own accents).
Great idea, Audrey!
Check out roomie his accent is so unique
"cause Hozier exists already and he's beautiful"
I mean, same.
He made me laugh with that line, but like, he's not wrong. Haha.
Yes, you exist, and you're beautiful too
Sam swooning over Hozier is MEEEE
Me too haha
Jay J right? So relatable
Same. lol
Same
i’m absolutely here for you fanboying over him. it’s impossible not to
"So intentional, so thought out" yet the dude makes it seem easy, like he is just speaking to his friends.
“Hozier exists already and he’s beautiful and that’s enough”
That belongs on merch 😂
This song performed by the Artic Monkeys sounds like sex, and this cover makes it sound like love. Also, would love to see you react to Florence Welch! Her recent stuff would be great!
Nominadora oh my god yes!
That’s a fantastic analogy
Yes, awesome.
I feel like a better way to put it's is like ways to deal with what's a break up from what the the lyrics talk about about, the original is like someone getting chaotic drunk and being out, Hozier version is like the person being sobering up sitting alone at home at that point when you've run out of tears.
Dog days are over would be excellent to do a video on
YOURE FINALLY REACTING TO HOZIER IM SO EXCITED
He has before
He reacted to the subway performance of Take Me To Church
FunkyyCat i completely forgot omg ☠️☠️☠️☠️
Andrew Hozier-Byrne has my whole entire heart. One of the best vocalists and lyricists in the game but what really sets him apart is the way he injects the feelings into thsoe words.
I feel like if the perfect slice of buttered toast could sing it would sound like Hozier
This is so beautifully phrased. I couldn't agree more!
Hozier has such a rainy day voice for me. Fitting that I’m watching this on a grey, rainy day.
Hozier's voice is absolutely amazing its hard to believe its real, but hey, what else to expect from a reincarnation of a medievial lesbian witch than a pure magic
Dude, you're like my doppelganger!
We look like lost twins, so glad i found you!
do you know your dad
Seriously.
um... no?
"Hozier exists already, and he's beautiful, and that's enough" it's OK Sam, you're not the only one with a crush on this guy
I saw Hozier live a few years ago, he’s absolutely fantastic
Saw him in October. Front row. On point. Just as good live as the albums
Seeing him live is almost a spiritual experience. Almost better than the studio versions.
@@beauabumgarner I saw him in October too, in Phoenix. The show was absolutely amazing, and yes, spiritual. Movement gave me goosebumps, TMTC and NCP had me nearly in tears.
Arctic Monkeys themselves acoustic plsssssss
Yesssss👏
This is wonderful. I know technicality doesn't impact your enjoyment of something (most people like what they like) but lordy it feels lovely to know that Hozier is just technically good.
Only thing I disagree with - the world could definitely do with more Hoziers. Not Hozier-like, just more of him specifically. We'd be better for it.
I particularly like the woman's voice harmonizing during the chorus and the end
This Hozier guy is good at singing.
He just might make it in the biz one day.
Hozier makes the world so much better. The amount of love and gratitude I have for his work and his heart is unbelievable. He’s such an inspiration as a singer, artist, lyricist, musician, person, EVERYTHING!
I'd love for you to react to him singing Shrike on the Late Late Show recently.
And The parting glass ! Please !
I love Hozier's rendition of this song. He is amazing as always.
I swear Hozier seems like some mythical being outside of time. Love that man ❤
the description of a "higher shimmer" in the e vowel is such an instantly graspable and absurdly GORGEOUS notion damn it sam how do you do that
also we LOVE to see hozier, thank you so much, i would LOVE to see you analyse his cover of say my name!
You made me fall in love with him when you reacted to Take me to church in the Subway. Now I listen to him everyday, so thanks for that! 🌸✨
same! 💙
His cover is actually the way I came across Arctic Monkeys. I just fell in love with the song and the lyrics really do shine through in this interpretation of his.
I think it would be cool to hear your take on any of the “together at home” performances. A lot of acoustic, hopefully not altered/enhanced vocals...Adam Lambert, Taylor Swift, Charlie Puth, Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, John Legend, Sam Smith, etc....
Hozier has done TWO! Do those!! :)
I wanna hear a breakdown of Jennifer Hudson stuffing syllables into Hallelujah like clowns in a clown car
Do Hozier’s cover of The Parting Glass
TVpop how exquisite is it 💗 #sofreakingamazing
Holy mackerels that was an amazing one. And his performance of Shrike on the same show was absolutely gorgeous.
I LOVE this song, there are a few different performances of it and it's amazing how the tone of the song changes from singer to singer. In Hozier's version it's reflective and sweet, Artic Monkeys it's more in your face and desperate maybe? I don't know, beautiful either way. Great review.
I agree. Artic Monkey's version makes me think of a drunk person speaking from the bottom of his heart in all desperation
Arctic Monkeys for me is an angry/bitter kind of vibe. This I find more of a longing and bittersweet vibe. Amazing how songs have different meanings based on performance.
I am convinced that Hozier can cover anything and it will be wonderful. I would love to see you react to King Princess!
Oh HELL YES, she's amazing!
New fan of Hozier! What a beautiful voice and song💜 Love watching you smile when you are enjoying life! You are as good or better than all these musicians you react to... Waiting for more performances from you❤️❤️❤️
Yesss love your Hozier reactions 🔥🔥🔥
Hozier is calmness embodied. There's something about his voice that I find quite dreamy.
Always so informative without being overbearing and no nonsense! I really enjoy your videos and appreciate how much you're willing to share.
Thank you
I'll have too look into Hozier's music, what a soothing voice I really enjoyed it. Also, PLEASE collab with Tara Simon!!!
If you liked this performance, you'll probably enjoy "Cherry Wine" from his first album :)
RedRoseSeptember22 you’ll love him ... both albums are superb
lol are voice teacher/vocal coach collabs actually a thing? that'd be cool
He is AMAZING
us irish are so proud of him :,)
Oh you absolutely should be haha
Oh my favourite Irish boy singing. I really love Hoziers voice it's just gorgeous. The vowel sounds are to do with his language, people think he is American but nooo he is a good Irishman with insane talent, a true artist yet really underrated 🌹🇮🇪💖
2:49 RIP headphone users
bless, thanks for the heads up 🙏
That was terrifying
Never understood the "RIP headphone users" posts, do people have terrible headphones? Or are they just turned up so loud that normal volume is deafening so any escalation in volume actually kills them?
@@killerfugu2659 its....a joke...
@@killerfugu2659when the volume is literally inside your ear it would hurt your eardrums so people say rip as in gws (get well soon)
Sam: *makes pained face* his voice is just so silky
me too sam, me too
I'd love to see you react to more of Hozier, I think you'd really love his cover of Lay Me Down by Sam Smith! It's my favourite of all his covers ❤️
I love his cover of Sweet Thing.
"gorgeously seamless" is the shortest yet bets description of Hozier's voice.
I'm a simple woman, I see Hozier, I click. Also I really love your videos Sam, I think you're the only one (at least in english videos) that actually explains things.
FINALLY YES MY TREE FATHER🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
i love him sm honestly. seeing him live is a magical experience i'd love to relive a thousand times
I love this song. Nice to hear it in a different way!
I mean he did sing in a choir, Anuna, for a loooong time, and he was an amazing soloist with them as well. He knows what's up!! ;)
really love hozier. in terms of pop music, it was really great to experience the early-to-mid 2010s with so many soulful, folk-inspired voices taking the lead for a while. you had artists in the vein of hozier, mumford and sons, florence, etc. and hozier always stood out. he has such precise control of his voice, like at the peak of a song he'll strain, but it feels intentional, emotional, like his knees are about to buckle and he's going to collapse. it makes his music a lot more dramatic and striking. and then he'll haunt with the softest songs i've ever heard ugh we stan.
I like the original much more, but boy THOSE HARMONIES 😍
Also, thank you for that formant tuning bit, it was extremely interesting!
Hes amazing would love to you reacting to his original stuff 🥰
I'd love to see you react to Puddles Pity Party singing "I Who Have Nothing" at paste studios. Great voice and it's Puddles so great character performance, as well.
You should do a react to a compilation of all the celebs doing IG live performances!!!
Omigod, I swear. The more I watch of your videos, the more I appreciate your teaching skills and appreciation for voices and honesty and all of it. You are such a freaking wonderful person, Sam. Thank you for existing and making these videos ❤
I would love to see a video comparing Hozier’s studio track of a song vs the live concert version. He’s STUNNING live and he does a lot to change up a song to make it different and new. From Eden from Afas Live comes to mind as a good live vs studio version. Also the acoustic version of NFWMB.
I'm commenting even though I have no real comment to make. Hozier is a master at his craft and at utilizing and controlling his vocal instrument. There's just nothing else to say.
Sam, as always, what's up 😁
Oh my! What a treat, Hozier covering Arctic Monkeys. Perfect blend of talent and creativity. My day has just been made.
Love how technical you are and I can still understand what you’re talking about . Thx Sam !
i’ll always support you, the way u take the time to explain everything precisely and giving us a whole idea of every emotion and feeling each sound should, and does, make. i recommend your channel to everyone who’s interested in singing bc of your professionalism and sweetness. im a beginner singer from argentina and your videos made me pay much more attention to many sounds and styles i wasn’t hearing. thank u ❤️
Hey Sam! I Would love to hear your thoughts on "Nina cried power" by Hozier feat. Mavis Staples. It Would be very interesting to hear your analysis on both of their voices.
Love him and love the song!!! 👏🏻 xx
Ive watched this no joke a hundred and twelve times! Happy to see your video and explanation.
P.S. the ending is OUTSTANDING!
You should do MITSKI, especially her tiny desk concert! her vocals are so unusual and cool! love your work :)
Thanks for this video.....it is helping me get through my Monday.....also, that « looking at each other and matching each other » thing you talk about is, I think, due to mirror neurons.
Tell me more about mirror neurons Wednesday please
Will do!
I was thinking the same thing when Sam talked about it being an empathetic thing. That's a REALLY astute observation.
I think it's also just basic visual cues that allow you to anticipate what others are going to do next. We can take in and process so much visual information so quickly. It's nuts.
Love when u react to hozier! You should do Dermont Kennedy next! Thx!
yes!! 💕💕
I personally would love to hear your take on MJK of A Perfect Circle singing By And Down (The River) off the Eat The Elephant release. He conveys so much emotion in that one.
I loved the little bits you put into this one - the x-files theme, etc - it killed me XD. I also wanted to mention I loved the backup singers choices as well; I'm not sure if I'm making this up, but that e-sound makes me nostalgic for old animated films, I'm pretty sure disney used it to create a "magical" sound sometimes.
Hozier is one of my favourite artists, thank you so much for making this video😍
Jason - Mr Curiosity (Live in Dallas). You will enjoy that SO much.
Ohhhh yassssss
OMG I'M SO HAPPY!!!!
I LOVE THIS SONG AND THIS IS MY FAVORITE COVER!
he totally transformed the song and I'm obsessed with it ( so glad it's on Spotify)
Your smile always makes my day!
"We don't need more Hoziers" Okay let me stop you there
Your videos are the best, Sam! I like to sing and feel like I learn so much from your videos. I think about my vowels with you in mind! 😂 Love Hozier and would love to hear you do a breakdown of another great Irish artist, my fave right now, Dermot Kennedy!
Ugh this cover is amazing ❤ I love the breakdown!
you haave to make a vid on the lead singer, Alex Turner, of Arctic Monkeys, I adore his voice
Would absolutely love to hear your reaction to Hozier performing “Movement” live in the subway or any other live performance of it
you're going to convince me to take vocal lessons with you ugh!! Slides are something I truly struggle with
absolutely adore your reviews! i have learned a lot from you. i would really love to see you react to dermot kennedy's live vocals!! 💕💕
10:28 LMAO this killed me
I really really love his voice I always have! My husband on the other hand does not. He describes Hozier as boring. We are both musicians but I'm the vocalist and pianist. He's a guitar player. Maybe that is the difference? IDK, but I agree 💯 with you and your assessment. I can appreciate the subtleties that you point out. You are a great talent!
DO MOREE OF HOZIER OMG
More Hozier! Never enough Hozier :D
Oh god it's finally here ❤️
Man I left a comment about this ages ago - I'm so happy to see it! Now time to actually watch it!
sam fender - the boarders live at vevo life! his use of vowels is really interstellar and he's also got amazing vocals!💜
why the fuck did this autocorrect to interstellar im howling
It would be awesome if you reacted to Alter bridge, their singer Myles Kennedy is a beast. In their song Blackbird especially.
More ideas: performances by Sylvan Esso (one vocalist) or Mountain Man (such amazing harmonies!)
Yasssssss
Thank you for doing this one Sam, Hozier is my biggest idol when it comes to voice control!
Please consider reacting to anything by *Jacob Collier* , for example "make me cry " (mahogany sessions)
Your knowledge is so amazing! Love your channel
I really love when you review Hozier’s music. He’s really amazing 🔥
OMZZZZZ FINALLYYYYYYYY
Anyway it would be great to hear your insights about Loren Allred's Never Enough performance with David Foster.
or perhaps another So Hyang reaction? Hug Me and Everyone are some of her best songs :D it has been a while since you last reacted to her
It would be interesting to see a reaction to the cover that Dua Lipa did of this song: I find her voice so soothing and how she sings it feels so personal.
I love this version too though :)
It would be cool to compare the two versions, maybe throw in a version that arctic monkeys did live too (bc they're the original) so he could analyse how the meaning changes from the way that it's performed.
I love when you demonstrate the vowels
I've waited so long for this!!!
I'd love to hear a breakdown of The Strokes. Julian Casablancas uses his voice in really cool ways.
Just had to say that the Live Lounge is for a radio station so that's why it's not an overly visual performance
I'd love to hear your analysis of Baby Rose's COLORS performance of 'All to Myself', or one of Celeste's live performances of 'Strange'. Their voices are both so beautiful and unique.
I love his tone so much.
Hozier is just everything
Hi, Sam! Thank you for doing a Hozier video! Could you do a video on identifying your tone as a singer? As a female singer, I have had a hard time finding a niche for my voice; it doesn't quite fit the sound of any particular genre, or maybe sounds like a mix of genres because I taught myself to sing through listening to different vocal styles. I think that would be super helpful!
Or I might suggest Janelle Monet opening the Oscars 2020. Come Alive
YES:) more Hozier please!!!!
