I moved back to Nairobi but not to a village I don't have a village to move back to. I was born in Nairobi but my old neighbourhood is destroyed full of high rises and all neighbourhood childhood friends have left /driven out mostly in diaspora and unfortunately several close friends have passed away. I tried to live outside Nairobi and hated it.Friends wise I found it difficult to make new friends trying to relate to people who have mostly never left Kenya. Also as a single woman I did not feel safe and the attitude of men was just annoying. I also did not like the frustration of getting even simple things done. Dealing with a corrupt system is soul destroying. The power cuts became boring and yes there is family but they can be too much. I realised I liked my freedom in the UK and cherished the diversity of my friends. For those who have villages to go to then it makes sense. For Nai born and bred it is just exchanging one rat race for a polluted, chaotic other rat race.
Me too after 23 years I move back permanently last 10 years I was getting ready build a house buy land small business where do you get little bit income and that's all I needed
You are doing a GOOD thing. I was born from a Caribbean Island and came to the US and was raised there. The point you make in regards to your children and how they're American but their culture is Kenyan is VERY real. The other thing is that when it comes time for them to get married, that will speak a lot to who they can choose to marry. For those children who grew up like this, it's very hard to find a mate who shares similar values. While I love to see diverse cultures here in the US, I understand where you're coming from. I wish I could go home but that "home" for me is different. I don't know what part of Africa I would go back to ... and my current home country is in shambles. :(
Happo kwa "letting my hair down" ndio sijaona evidence. But good stuff. This country and the family relations are priceless gems that you can't ignore.
I have noticed that many Kenyans especially those around the age of 40-50 are returning in droves. This is a good development, my nephew moved back in 2018 after 20 years in the Silicon Valley!
Irony of life is that some of us are praying day and night for God to open a door so that we can move abroad and some are planning to come back.sometimes life is so unfair
True. So many of my friends and relatives want to come to America. I know that if their circumstances were different, they would stay in Kenya. I've lived in America for over 20 years but I've not had the desire to return home since so much time has passed and I don't know if I would fit in. I would feel lost 😢
Good decision I may say. But going and living out of our countries 15:1615:1615:1615:1615:16 enables us learn more about life, learn new skills that we can implement in our countries if and when we decide to to come back and lastly we are able to appreciate our own countries and may also suggest improvements in governance of our own countries. Going out of our countries is therefore not a bad thing at all.The same applies to coming back. It’s an individual choice, congratulations on your decision ❤️
I'm in the process of moving back to my birth country @ the end of the year. As much as it is exciting, I'm a bit anxious because it is a huge. transition. so much to do in terms of getting ids, social security & getting used to living there rather than visiting. One of the things I have to constantly remind myself is that moving back does not mean I'm a failure. I am excited for what the future holds.
I luv this. Please be sure to bring your own organic seeds for the homestead. It’s currently illegal to buy or sell organic (non gmo) seeds in 🇰🇪. This is a law we need to fight and reverse it Am so happy for y’all 🌸🩷
True. The law to criminalise indigenous seeds was passed by parliament last year. Those idiots don't even read the bills, they just shout aaaai or naaay and vote according to the piper not what's good for the citizens.
I am three years in US and having a job here. My mind and emotions are all in Kenya. We have had the discussions of going back with my wife, and we all agree that East or west, home is the best option. Am not sure how long I will last here..
Wuon Odidi, I believe the experience you and your wife gain from building your beautiful home, can be invested in building a home construction company that can help a lot of diaspora build their homes back home. A lot of people dream about building back home, only if they had a reliable company to work with. Please think of this. Nyasae okonyi.🙏🏾
I'm African American living in Africa. I know the States very well. I think you are making a very good choice. The States is not a good place for families and believe me it is about to be much worse. You might consider a additional plan for an earlier emergency quick exit if necessary. I also lived in Long Beach on PCH when in college.Blessings

Upon all the lectures, make sure you have something concrete to live on and do if you relocate to home country else life could be more depressive. Take it easy! One step at a time and also consider the type of education you want for your kids. Above all, be more prayerful and avoid comparisons.
What education are you talk about? Do you think a doctor in US is any better than a dock in Kenya?? Are you in US?? If yes, we can argue, if not, then get yourself here first ujionee na macho
So glad I came across your video. I often think about making the move as well. I live and rent an apartment in south Orange County, so I pay a pretty penny monthly. I am glad this was recommended to me. Great pointers👍.
You're in one of the most expensive counties in the country. Have you tried moving to the south? There are many job opportunities and the cost of living is much lower. Nashville especially has many opportunities in I.T, Healthcare and service industries

Thousands of Kenyans move back to Kenya...Not everyone in Kenya is poor as you all know and without stealing!....Many Kenyans who have good jobs or lucrative Businesses live better than many Kenyans in America or Europe or anywhere outside Kenya. It depends on your family financial level when they left Kenya or when growing up in Kenya. Mostly if your family was /is poor or does not have anything in Kenya then these people do not want to go.back. He is correct, qualify of life is much better in Kenya if you have enough money to support your family. Help - here we have no help - we have to cook, clean, take care of the house and family and transport kids to school all by yourself - in Kenya even people in gishagi have housegirls . In central many who are doing ok have house girls and drivers - Disapora are always tired , many work 2 jobs never home, kids being raised by video games, parents spend very little time with their children - many Disapora children are in trouble in America - in jail, pregnant at 14, or on drugs or very disrespectful to the parents. Like he said also correct - The children of Disapora also have identity crisis and a complex, as he said they dont fit in with black American children or the whites . So they over do it or self isolate to cover their complex. I will be moving back in 2 years for better community , more family and a more less stressful life but like he said, you must have a. Plan to move anywhere in the world . Let us remember there are poor lower social economical level people in all countries - many homeless in America. Its so foolish some Kenyans think all Kenyans should be on the same financial level mostly due to jealousy. All country's have people on different levels, there are poor , average and rich people in every country like America and in Europe too. So your not the first ones, it will be fine so long as you have a plan work on it Daily as you would in any country. All the Best.❤️🇰🇪. There are ex Disapora gtoups in Nairobi, check them out. 15:16

20 years is more than enough to return back home. 10-15 years abroad is enough if you plan your return the first day you land abroad. At 40-45 years old, you should be back home to enjoy your sweat.
How do you intend to educate and pay for your children's education? I assume they will attend USA curriculum schools in Kenya (they are not cheap) and eventually attend US universities (they cost an arm and a leg, too).

@@WuonOdidi that's true. Work ethics was the major reason for me.
The planning starts early! Just begin to jipanga!
I happened to have watched your second video in this series before this one. It's good to know that you're from a neighboring state, California, and similar city, Kisumu! Great content, I've been thinking deeply about transitioning and I thank God I stumbled onto your channel.
Thank you so much!!! We can do this! Ii hope you and I can connect soon??
You have a beautiful home Odidi. I live in Nairobi and I see my neighbors spend time in the US and Kenya, they really enjoy it here especially the senior citizens. I believe deep down we love this country inspite of the dysfunction, it's a beautiful place, it's home.
Absolutely!!Thanks!
I live in UK, have done so for over 15 years now. 10 years ago i tried to move back to Kenya and it didnt work out. NOW i know UK is home permanently. Happy for those it works out for - It didnt for me, and i have made peace with that decision.
I am sorry to hear that! Returning sometimes means finding a way to spend time on both places in a way that works for you!
Glad I came across your video. Have Lived in Qatar for 5yrs now living in America but my heart still belongs home in the 254! I hope to move back there someday soon i would not want to raise my future children in the US!
May God see you through your journey!
Asante sana and good luck with your journey!!!
I live in Canada but spend most times in Kenya.
I'm currently building something small.
My plan is to move back in 3 years.
Canada life is expensive..
Excellent!!! Please share more! I'd love to learn from you!
Factors to consider buy a land , build a house, buy another land set up rentals like a flat for continous income, save for school fees and basic, then come back home with the mindset of focusing on work u can do immediately.explore places later
100% agreed!!
The articulation of this content is excellent. Karibu Kenya. East or West home is the best.

Such a beautiful home. MashaAllah 😃 The kids are soo cute! All the best family
Thank you so much :)
welcome back home bro,,east west home is the best.just tell GOD thank u and sit back relax and enjoy
Thank you so much :)
So true!
I am sorry to hear about your experience! I hope some day you will get a second chance..perhaps after the kids clean things up!

Wuon Odidi hello just watching and support your move. am new. You are a wonderful family ❤❤❤
Thank you so much :)
You are welcome to Kenya cousin!!!
I'm relocating from the UK as well...I can't wait kujua nyumbani. Hongera kwa familia yenu🎉

Yes!! Karibu and thanks a lot!!

I have noticed that many Kenyans especially those around the age of 40-50 are returning in droves. This is a good development, my nephew moved back in 2018 after 20 years in the Silicon Valley!
😂😂. Good luck with that. Medical in Kenya SUCKS

Yes!! Many of us just want some peace and quiet in the village!!
Very true! I hope God gives all of us what we need!!
Good decision I may say. But going and living out of our countries 15:16 15:16 15:16 15:16 15:16 enables us learn more about life, learn new skills that we can implement in our countries if and when we decide to to come back and lastly we are able to appreciate our own countries and may also suggest improvements in governance of our own countries. Going out of our countries is therefore not a bad thing at all.The same applies to coming back. It’s an individual choice, congratulations on your decision ❤️
Very true!! Thanks!!
I support the move back to Africa. It is indeed a process. Good luck with your move
Thank you so much :)
We actually help people relocate to Kenya this dope ❤
Good to know!
I just moved back from the US . Things are mammoth and I had enough after 20 plus years! I chose the coastal slow life for my own well being.
Congrats!!!!
Absolutely!!!! We can do this..Good luck!
May God protect you & your family always in this new journey. My dream as well to moving back home
Thanks a lot! We can do this!!
That is a bold decision.....I like your home too.I am inspired.
Thank you thank you :)
The art work is to die for … May I ask where you purchased them?
Thanks! we got them at a furniture store in mega city kisumu...I forgot the name of the exact shop
This is good stuff! Waiting on reason 2! Cheers…
Asante sana! It is loading...soon!
Well done am soon relocating too.
Thank you so so much and best of luck to you :)
I luv this. Please be sure to bring your own organic seeds for the homestead.
It’s currently illegal to buy or sell organic (non gmo) seeds in 🇰🇪. This is a law we need to fight and reverse it
Am so happy for y’all
🌸🩷
Illegal to buy non gmo seeds? Thats insane!
Wow!!! I had no idea! thanks for sharing!
True. The law to criminalise indigenous seeds was passed by parliament last year. Those idiots don't even read the bills, they just shout aaaai or naaay and vote according to the piper not what's good for the citizens.
Wuon Odidi od no ber buana 😅 Moving back home soon too. Watching from Canada.
Erokamano ahinya :) Where is home for you??
I am three years in US and having a job here. My mind and emotions are all in Kenya. We have had the discussions of going back with my wife, and we all agree that East or west, home is the best option. Am not sure how long I will last here..

Karibu nyumbani. Mboka in mboka. It’s been a decade since we moved back. Best gift we gave ourselves 😅
Thanks!!! I'm glad to hear that!!
Erokamano ahinya! We are thinking about it!
You are wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No where like dala! you are going to be ok.

I'm African American living in Africa. I know the States very well. I think you are making a very good choice. The States is not a good place for families and believe me it is about to be much worse. You might consider a additional plan for an earlier emergency quick exit if necessary. I also lived in Long Beach on PCH when in college.Blessings
I am glad to hear that..and even happier you are in the mother land!!!

Good stuff, very informative. Thanks for sharing.
Karibu nyasuba!
Upon all the lectures, make sure you have something concrete to live on and do if you relocate to home country else life could be more depressive. Take it easy! One step at a time and also consider the type of education you want for your kids.
Above all, be more prayerful and avoid comparisons.
I could not agree with you more! Thanks for the great suggestions!!!
Yes! OC is something else! We moved from OC to Long Beach. Thanks for spending time with us :)

Absolutely!!! Do they have social media platforms?
It also depends on how you have planned yourself when it comes to what you gonna be doing in your life. Job,business
Very true!!
Incredible reasons and a remarkable decision - family, relationships, mental health, cultural fit, environment, cost/affordability. Thanks for sharing, Omuga. I am in both worlds. Warom Kaluo, Prof.

Once one accomplishes what they had gone to do in the first place, (mostly wealth) they come back home. East West home is best. Everyone wants to walk down a street, an avenue, a village lane, and feel that "I AM HOME"

Well come back home sir thankyou for your information.

20 years is more than enough to return back home.
10-15 years abroad is enough if you plan your return the first day you land abroad.
At 40-45 years old, you should be back home to enjoy your sweat.
That's the goal!
How do you intend to educate and pay for your children's education? I assume they will attend USA curriculum schools in Kenya (they are not cheap) and eventually attend US universities (they cost an arm and a leg, too).
We don't know yet!
