Haha this takes me way way back. I love the love portion bit. Those girls defied the concoction. Some included a taboo for girls making the whistling sound, not sure what it meant. Then the warning not to cut the tail of a lizard, else something would happen to your mom. I always thought the deterrent to sweeping at night was to avoid losing something valuable. Salt was not to be mentioned by name at night. Villlage life is the real deal😂

Absolutely correct! We began with gathering stones and Sand and ballast over time and a project we started in 2021 is now ready to occupy. The total estimates on our material schedule was scary but those small bites made it extremely more manageable

You have mentioned it before and I have seen a few people struggling after returning to Kenya. It's those who left and burnt bridges or lost networks. If you plan to return build those networks or else you will be forced to come back to diaspora and live in a seniors home. And yes I have seen that happen.

I have also something against Nairobi that i can‘t explain. I lived in Nairobi during my college years but there is something about Nairobi today that scares the hell outer me. If not the traffic, the busy lifestyle and those guys in the public transport that rob you without you even noticing. The city in the sun is something else. Now to our plumber hommies, I can’t quite differentiate today between village ones and city ones. I have had in my latest project imported professionals from Nairobi to Kwale and paid big monies for their services. I have had a fair share of shoddy jobs done by these people. It costs really tripple to salvage or repair some of the mistakes. I don’t know may be being a woman and miles away.

Very important points in plumbing work and thank you for sharing with us. Allow me to add more points as im through in designing of my house. I second you on carefully evaluating plumbers and agree with professional plumber. 1. During the design, Make sure to put wet areas in one corner (kitchen, bathrooms, laundry). This will reduce the plumbing cost, minimize risk of leakages, and makes easy for maintenance. 2. Try to make the piping line of toilet at one side... dont make pipes do round about all over the bathroom. 3. Use water proofing liquids at the toilet before tiling. This will safe you from moisture of slabs and walls and protects the structural integrity of the house. 4. Install water filter... this can protect you in many ways, unflitered water always come with stains that damage the pipes and and sanitary fittings and reduces their life span, you keep changing taps everytime... it makes tanks dirty, damages the washing machines, not good in health wise.. cause itching and hair falling and makes teeth yellowish.... you will end up paying triple cost to fix these problems. 5. If your family is small, dont buy big water tanks.. this needs more cost on putting tank tower or more concrete enforcement of slab .... In my case, im planning to get 5k litre tank,, its way enough with my family.

Building residential homes is a huge problem in Africa. I wish all the engineers and architects train their own group of builders plumbers, electricians, plasterers etc etc. Unfortunately, due to their excessively high prices people opt them out, but that's the danger. Large scale business properties are being built by internationally acclaimed huge companies do such great jobs and I wish our own would help out by, at the start, bringing prices down to get more customers bases first, then through their word of mouth and proof of the jobs you've done you attract more customers

Road to 15K! Plumbing? That's a whole day story!

Fact💯we got a Kikuyu plumber who put stones & cigarettes in our water pipes so the water wouldn't come through so that we could keep calling him & paying him🤷🏿‍♀️🤦🏿‍♀️ I'm Kikuyu my bad. Don't catch feelings. We got a luo plumber who solved the problem & he called us to see the stones & cigarettes deliberately put in the pipes. Then we have the most phenomenal plumber a Luhya the best of the best💯👍🏾👌🏾 it's hard to get him or an appointment. His God send.

As usual watching you from upstate New York. I used a village plumber when constructing our retirement house in Nyahera. I’ve experienced practically all the issues you mentioned. For a moment I thought you were highlighting my own unique problems. I’m slowly doing repairs at almost three times the cost of it were done right at first. Village plumbers No “adagi chuth”

Nairobi to me is like being in a foreign country. I went one day to muthurwa I don’t know if that’s the right spelling. Mkokoteni guy called me a bad name I never recovered. The next day I heard to Kisii. I stepped to Nairobi just to process my greencard after high school. I was a village girl. The crowd, bodaboda and fumes gives me too much anxiety. I enjoy the villages more 😂🤣

My plumbing problems. 1. Slope in the bathroom. My tiles person laid the floor tiles in both my bathrooms without a slope. We tested this later after he had left.....stagnation galore. Only solution will be to retile the floors, until then we use brooms to sweep out the bath water after showering. 2. We never considered the position of the tissue holder when designing. We now put the tissue on the cistern for the toilet. These are strictly not the plumber's problem, but relate to the bathroom.
