Incredible!! I first rode the Oldham loop through Oldham Mumps Station in 1988, when I had a cousin who lived near Shaw Station. There's virtually nothing left of the old Mumps site now!!

I guess they were the olden days lol. It really doesn't feel that long ago (I remember it from the 90s).
It is weird to think this abandoned site is Oldham Mumps!

@@chiraagshah269I can remember chugging along the old line through Oldham Mumps and Werneth in a Pacer!! (150's were also used, and in 1988, even the odd older "heritage unit!!"). Even after my cousin moved out of the area, I went back to the line a few times when in the Manchester area, it was a fascinating little run, especially alongside the frequent old mill buildings, each with a different name!!

Here's something you might not know. The old station at mumps was once shown on the coronation street TV show re-labelled as broad green near Liverpool, they were trying to pretend mumps was broad green, honestly how did they expect anyone to fall for that?!

The video too, well done! I traveled on that line when I was 7 years old (back in the 1970’s). It was my first ever train journey, I remember it very vividly. It was from Rochdale to Manchester Victoria, it’s really quite nostalgic to say the least. I’ve been an Ex-pat since 86, so it really is a trip down memory lane. Thanks! Phil

I travelled on that line a few times, both on the trains and on the trams when they took it over for a while. And for a short while there was a level crossing over seven lanes of traffic. That must've been a one off, unless anyone knows of another one. And the tram lines on this stretch was taken down to the new line to Manchester airport, along with it's overhead lines and signals etc. And last time I was there on that stretch of track bed there was a small remaining chunk of platform left from the old mumps station. And someone should get a bunch of yobs on community payback to rake up that old ballast which could be re-used as it appears to be in fairly good condition. And I remember seeing the old curved railway freight building near park road, which was grade 2 listed, but somehow it still got demolished.

Remember the loop line, use to get on it in the 80s going to the pubs Crawl around Dean Lane, Newton heath etc. Probably all closed down now.
