Two Days Plowing Snow ~ Jan 7-8, 2022 ~ Wet & Wild

  • We had a nice storm Jan 7-8, 2022. I was out on day shift and got some in cab footage from the first day. It was a little too wet to put a camera on the outside of the truck. We had a wet and heavy snow through the first day, followed by a wet and wild windy night. Things calmed down on the second day and I was able to get a great little timelapse of some the route.
    I hope you enjoy these two days of plowing snow! Take care everyone and play safe!

    Retired now but after nearly 30 winters plowing snow this video sure brought back fond and not so fond memories. Question. Just wondering if you don’t like use the windshield electric defroster ? Or was it just not working ? … I loved the system in the Western Stars that had it, the trucks that didn’t I found it best to turn the heat off the windshield completely and the snow didn’t stick to the windshield nearly as badly ….. I sure enjoyed your video , thanks for taking the time to put it together on a really busy work day 😊

    Stay safe out there, so many drivers on the road now that believe since they can see 50 feet ahead of themselves that any other driver can see them without headlights. Not true because dark cars don't show on dark roads and light cars don't show on snow or dry salted roads. Massachusetts had a law to use lights when wipers were on, but cops refused to enforce it because they were getting wet enforcing it!

    • @JimHowDigsDirt
      @JimHowDigsDirt  2 года назад

      Thanks Jack! Wipers on, lights on is a great rule of thumb. Here in Canada cars are supposed to have daytime running lights on all the time, but that isn't enforced either. The trouble with daytime running lights is you see people driving around after dark with only them on and no tail lights. Be safe out there!

      It's the engine brake select.. might be different from truck to truck but basically it kind of goes like this
      From all the way up..
      Off
      1(lowest)
      2
      3(highest)
      It sets the amount of how much engine brake you want to use.
      That's mostly where it's at with automatic trucks now if you actually have a truck that has a manual in it's usually on the dash and it'll be two switches.
      On/off
      1
      2
      3

    How come your check engine light is on ? I guess as long as it doesn't break down and get's you where you're going that's all that matters, aye !

    • @JimHowDigsDirt

      It was supposed to go back to the dealership last week to get scanned. The dealer also wants the plow, wing and e-poke taken off before it goes to their shop so maybe that's why it never made it there. The truck is working fine so it's probably nothing major.

      @@JimHowDigsDirt thanks for that quick answer wasn't expecting that quickly, lol, since the vid was almost a yr old.
      I've had vehicles with the idiot lights on before. One I remember I had the head done after a blown head gasket and due to the sensor not replaced during repair, the light came on for the first time. The vehicle continued to work fine after that but the light remained lit.
      Had to put tape on it, as it caused glare on the windshield at night.

      @JimHowDigsDirt  Год назад

      I think a lot of times electrical tape is the best cure for that. You see so many vehicles with the engine light on that most people just ignore it. It's like The Boy Who Cried Wolf, lol.

    Lol! You are right! When it snows everyone has to get on the road! I work for Jasper county Missouri, and I guarantee 80% of the people up our ass don't need to be on the road when we are plowing.

      I think they get scared that they might get snowed in for days and have to stock up. And the news and weather channels make it sound a lot worse than it is most of the time.

    Seams like the manufacturers would do a better job with the wiper system on a plow truck. Looks like a huge blind spot in the center and the right side

    I don’t understand why drivers try to pass snow plows. Today we were heading eastbound with 2 trucks one with a double wing and a winged right. Had front and Left wing down. Right wing at about 2 foot off the ground, lowering as the road will widen out. Seconds truck was blades down front and right. Clearing both lanes. Some knuckle head passed between us then lost control in the snow and went on its side. Now we had to stop. Just don’t try to pass snowplows.

    The last few minutes with the outside views were the best --- or would have been except for the dubbed music and being sped up. Would rather hear the engine and road noise.

      I actually recorded that sped up part by mistake using the time warp setting on my GoPro Max. I am currently working on a real time version of that view and hope to have it ready to post this Sunday. Thanks for watching Nerd G!

    I've been driving a truck for over twenty years now and the only thing I can figure out is why all of a sudden everybody wants to get out driving around when there's a snowstorm is because nobody figured out how to put a warning label on it yet.. they need that you know.
    Question:
    Why are you constantly having to push buttons on that GPS?

    • @JimHowDigsDirt
      @JimHowDigsDirt  2 года назад +1

      That is a great idea for the warning labels Thomas! lol The buttons are on the salt computer; it controls the amount of salt I am putting out. Thanks for watching!

    Pretty dangerous that your always touching the computer for Salter. I noticed half the time your driving your looking and touching it. Very dangerous to be driving a giant plow truck. Should have a 2nd guy in truck for stuff like that

    Oh that CEL dont affect nofin , Its been on for years , what we need is to install a tuner to boost power way over the normal levels and ignore dash lights...Nope they just install them IDIOT lights just so drivers have backup dash illumination lights. Oh damn why does this POS always break down or have no power..
