    I think my preferences are most in line with Rex. Redbreast 12yr cask strength is one of my favorites! And as Rex often says, I love being taken on a “funky adventure” with something unique, as well as high proof whiskeys where the flavor holds up to the proof.
    I wish there were more reviews with Emma because I am definitely a big fan of Laphroaig and would be curious to see how much more overlap there is in our palates.

    Question for all you MBs here: I'm a hobby cocktail mixer and explored Gin, Tequila and also of course Whiskey over the past two years. I got a few bottles from all the different variants and I found that I don't really enjoy Malty Scotches all that much for a very specific reason. I can drink them, I can enjoy them for what they are, and I can tell if it's a good one. However... it's not something I'd pick up for myself since.. as funny as that sounds... the maltyness reminds me too much of beer. Not that I don't like beer, however when I'm in the mood for that taste, my instinct is to grab a malty beer. And I usually also want that to be a bit refreshing, not something strong alcohol. (I don't mind the smokeyness of some scotches at all btw, I really liked Ardbeg for what it was and I love the one Mezcal I have). Maybe it's because I'm German and just too used to these notes in a beer. I don't MIND them in a Whiskey but... it's not giving me anything different, it's giving me more of the same so ... it's just not for me for that reason.
    So my question: Has anybody else ever felt this way? Do Malt Whiskey's remind you of beer and is that spoiling the experience for you?
    (As a side note so far my favorites are the Rittenhouse Rye and Wild Turkey and.. IF I had to go there.. Ardbeg 10)

    Aggregate ratings are helpful, but let's be honest, whiskey/cigar/movie/etc scores are always flawed.
    Usually they're scales of 10 or 100, yet there are *never* scores under 5 or 50, almost every score is between 70-90, meaning in reality the scale is actually 1-3, and not super helpful.
    (Just a pet peeve of mine)

    • @zaustus1500
      @zaustus1500 2 года назад +1

      I've always thought that the scale should be 0 to 1, and then multiply the average by 100. That would avoid the exact problem you note (though it's not a perfect metric itself, either).

    • @AdamPFarnsworth
      @AdamPFarnsworth 2 года назад

      @@zaustus1500 Do you mean only rating something 0 or 1? That's kinda genius.
      I'd be stuck in the "I need to explain why I rated it this" hell each time I used it, since a binary choice doesn't leave any room for nuance lol
      But I love this idea of "0 = didn't like it, 1 = did like it," and then see how the numbers shake out. It would take a large sample group to work, but I like it!

    • @zaustus1500
      @zaustus1500 2 года назад +1

      @@AdamPFarnsworth Exactly, by making the choice binary everyone is forced to choose "liked it" vs "didn't like it." Aggregated over a large number of reviewers, it would give the percentage of people who liked it, which avoids some of the problems of 1-10 or 1-100 rating systems.

    I need to buy this because I love the HP 12 Year. Many people poo-poo the HP 12. But can I afford the HP Cask Strength?

      The question is, can you afford NOT to get the Cask Strength?
      But in all seriousness, it’s $90 where I live. I bought a bottle today and came to watch this video.

    7.47 out of 9 cats? I figured it would be higher given that it is a cats strength whisky
