Here's my step by step video log of installing British Gas HIVE into my Worcester Bosch boiler - particular model 30CDi
I used standard 3 core cable - available in most places. Wilko sell it by the metre.
This particular cable was from toolstation.
This was the video that made all the other research I've been doing pale into insignificance! I have a Worcester Greenstar 32CDi combi boiler and the wiring to my Salus receiver had only 3 wires (L, N and NO) but with a loop between Com and L..... This was confusing me as to the correct re wiring into the Hive receiver - your diagram was spot on! I also checked with a quick text to my boiler expert who installed the boiler 2 years ago and he said it was safe to do! Thanks again, I'm so pleased to have got rid of Salus as their software has been terrible!
Excellent - pleased my video has helped you
Thanks for the instructions, just installed the exact same system to my daughters 27 CDI and everything was exactly the same. Top video ;D
Worked first time, thank you for taking the time to put this vlog together. Your are a ⭐️
Thanks, just installed my Hive system using your video as a guide and it worked first time!
Excellent, I'm glad it worked! I've never had an issue with the install almost 4 years later...
You absolute legend! It was the bridge I couldn’t fathom out! Thank you for making this.
No probs, thanks for the comment
Such a great video, made the installation very staightforward, thank you for taking the time to put this up.
Thanks for the video. It has just saved me £70 as quoted by my local plumber. Much appreciated. 👍
Brilliant - helped me no end. NB - I manged to have a stray thread of wire across terminals in the block boiler end - blew the fuse first attempt. I changed the fuse (at the socket) and rectified the wiring. NB easier to pull the block out and screw the wires in when you can see them rather than trying to do this in situ.
Thanks for video, works a treat, much appreciated. Just a reminder to all who do this, don't forget to remove link, and advise to buy new blanking plate which can be found on Ebay for around £5.
Thanks dude! Followed this and worked a treat...
The reason for my question is I installed HIVE on a Bosch Greenstar with RF last February and removed the RF receiver, it has all seemed to work fine, however I have a problem with the condense pump on the boiler not draining the evaporation tank and wonder if this could be the reason. It’s probably a fault but thought I’d ask :-)
AT 3’26” I can see your RF receiver is back in the boiler, was it ok to leave that in as you stated it must be removed at the start?
I’ve got an old mc10. Not opened up yet, but are they clearly marked inside the terminals?
When connecting the cables into the boiler, are there already cables in the connectors? If so, what do you do with them? Thanks!
Great video, installed in an hour thanks to your very clear instructions, thank you very much.
Thank you for the feedback 👌
Yesss my man!! Cheers for the vid, I look so cool to the missus now : )
Brilliant, this video has been private for the last couple of years! Glad I made it public and helped you out
I have followed this on my greenstar CDI and it looks the same, and the Hive is all working and talking. The issue I have is it is not responding to any temp changes, even turning off the CH on the Hive still stays at 22 degrees. I had a remote honeywell stat previously, and have removed the main control plate from the front of the boiler and replaced with a blank - I assumed this would stop all the old system working. My theory is that I may need to remove a wire or something from the connector block on the boiler as it may be contradicting the hive...Help please?
I want to install a Worcester easy control and it has only two core cable where do I connect those two plesae thank yo win advance
Cheers, it was so easy to install with your video
Brilliant, thanks for making the video.
Any idea what you do if the boiler has a wireless thermostat already , set everything up like you said it just won't turn flame on heating on , it'd like waiting for a command of the old wireless thermostat ,
It's the same boiler just the si version
I removed a wireless thermostat to install this... Have you definitely jumped the two terminals?
@@dandrumsandguitar8610 I did it mate just had to remove the programer and it worked , cheers great vid
stupid question time! My receiver is broke on boiler, so thought we would get hive system put on would it still work if current receiver that cam with boiler is knackered . Thanks
Yeah, I believe it will as the hive system connects to the boiler in a different way
@@dandrumsandguitar8610 can you tell me the difference between these 2 www.diy.com/departments/hive-active-heating-wi-fi-thermostat/5054347000570_BQ.prd?ds_rl=1272379&ds_rl=1272409&ds_rl=1272379&gclid=Cj0KCQiAmL-ABhDFARIsAKywVafW3QI90kvJltN8Om4r8RSmAU88G4flcTzD5_Zbzp3zysgZMZFN9d8aApJgEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Im wondering if this Hive thermostat will fit to my Worcester 28 CDi combi boiler, as its quite an old model (1999). Anybody knows?
Tomek Jaskolowski
Just fitted the exact same to a 27 CDI and everything was exactly the same. Suggest opening it up and having a look to see if it is the same.
did you use earth wire as a live cable?
No, brown = live
Just follow the wiring diagram as per video
Switched live he did yes.
It does loo like he used a standard 3 cores flex cable and used the earth wire as switched live... This is not uncommon BUT a sleeve must then be used over the earth wire to indicate that it is NOT earth. Best would have been to use a 4 cores cable and clamped the earth wire on the connection provided on the backplate as in principle earth must be brought to every accessory (hence the earth tether on the backplate).
I would never advocate using an earth designated cable for what is effectively a switched live wire, sleeve or not. buy a 3 core and keep the Green/Yellow wire spare, sleeved or earthed if you can. PS I'm not an electrician, and any wire would work, but using an Green/yellow for anything other than earth is sloppy IMHO. That said, it is a useful video to confirm the install steps.
Boiler thermostats
You need to be a qualified GAS engineer to do this, not an electrician, and it is certainly not a DIY job. In the UK, that is actually law, nor just industry code of practice or advice.
2 things were not shown on this video. 1) There are mandatory gas safety checks to be done after having disturbed the sealed case. 2) The manufacturer recommends upgrading the original electrodes on these boilers when work is carried out. This is because the original part shown in this video, with the viewing window, often fails, allowing hot products of combustion to be forced into the air box. This invariably changes the combustion, often enough to make the appliance unsafe. That's not to say every one of these old electrode sets do this but enough did that Worcester redesigned them and Issued a bulletin advising they be upgraded.
Perhaps these two things were done off camera, but the video should be much clearer. This work should only ever be done by a qualified GAS engineer.
@@dandrumsandguitar8610 Your reply confirms everything I just said. Thanks. In the case of Worcester CDi condensing boilers the case is functional. So, gas safe registered engineers only for this job. 👍
