I am of Croatian/Romanian/Gypsy ancestry but have always been a fan of Bulgarian music: instrumentals, songs and dances. But this type of dissonant singing has always mesmerized me... I could listen to it for hours and never tire of it... Bravo from the USA!

¹ As we see there are some gibberish - the song is about chanting so not
everything pronounced has a meaning. Bulgarian folklore songs have lots
of exclamations and interjections with literally no lexical meaning -
their idea is just to be an expression certain emotion and not
      necceserily something dictional.
² Just the same as ¹.
The language here is really dialectal and it is really difficult for me
to understand it - many people will probably rectify what I have
written. For probably more than 100 years, no one in Bulgaria talks like
this. For further quastions, I will try to answer as long as I could.
      Greetings.

Abagar Quartet is a young vocal student group at the University of Shumen "Ep.K.Preslavski". The quartet appears with a particular desire for originality, refracted through too young, but really conscious nationality. In the voices of young and talented Kalina, Stefka, Sofia and Christina sounds pure intonation and proximity to the nature of the source in the folk quartet performance.

@starlight10793 First, it's a couple of songs made like a medley. Also, it's folklore songs, so finding a sheet won't be very easy. You can however search for the music sheets of choir adaptations, including these very songs, as such used to be issued frequently in Bulgaria in the 70's and the 80's. If you make your way to Sofia, for example, look for the book store of the Bulgarian Composers organization (it's on a pretty central place, so most locals would know where is it).

@starlight10793 Also, I've seen a couple of websites selling older Bulgarian literature. They may be able to deliver to the US, as they do that for Europe. I can't make you sure you'll find exactly these adaptations, as they may be written especially for Abagar and not published at all, but you'll find a wealthy of choir adaptations of Bulgarian folklore songs from the Sofia region (also known as Shopluk, Shope region, Шопско, Шоплук).
I hope that helped at least a bit :)

      Chibi libi chok chok,
      smuta, smuta chetile,
      Stanke le raki dos,
      tele kote, tele dos (2)
A cartful climbs down from a mountain, a cartful climbs down from a mountain.
      Chibi libi chok chok,
      smuta, smuta chetile,
      Stanke le raki dos,
      tele kote, tele dos.
Who was in the cartful then? Rada was in the cartful.
      Chibi libi chok chok,
      smuta, smuta chetile,
      Stanke le raki dos,
      tele kote, tele dos.
Who was in the cartful then? Rada was in the cartful.
      Chibi libi chok chok,
      smuta, smuta chetile,
      Stanke le raki dos,
      tele kote, tele dos.
      Rada, you white girl.
      ▬▬
      (1) and (2) As we see there are some gibberish - the song is about chanting so not everything pronounced has a meaning. Bulgarian folklore songs have lots of exclamations and interjections with literally no lexical meaning - their idea is just to be an expression certain emotion and not necceserily something dictional.

      +Greg Duveau

The language here is really dialectal and it is really difficult for me

written. For probably more than 100 years, no one in Bulgaria talks like
this. For further quastions, I will try to answer as long as I could.
      Greetings.

I thought you would be Bulgarian but your profile says you are in Russia. Are you? I have to look on Google to see where Shumen is and if it is Shop, then I assume it is on the Western side of BG... near the Serbian border. I agree: this style of BG music is the most mystifying.... I also like the music from Dobruja... By the way, I'm impressed with your ability to communicate so well in English. Did you study here or in the UK?

What is the "yeeeeee" at the end of song, what does it mean? I notice this in Lithuanian sutartinės as well.

    • @abulgarianvoice8366
      @abulgarianvoice8366 10 лет назад +3

It really does not mean anything, as far as I know. It is a shout of happiness, intended to end the song in a happy and up-beat way. It does sound fun and makes song endings better :)
Even though the comparison is rather unfitting, I can equate the "yeeee" at the end of such songs, to the way some pop/rock musicians yell "yeeah" at concerts.

    • @doshuapshe
      @doshuapshe 8 лет назад +3

+William Nature There is no meaning of this "yeee". It is just as a non-diction expression.

I will try my best to translate it with its magic but Im not sure this can happen in english because the words and the text are from a certain region thats why is "Shopski" this is Sofia lands and "Napevki" this is like where girls like this are singing in the evenings in the villages and they sing like they try to do it better than the others it was very beatiful tradition... pure magic
