You probably should know how to swim if you snorkel.... I knew a scuba instructor that told me she used to have people that COULDN'T EVEN SWIM wanting to learn how to scuba dive....
Maui has a low percentage of lifeguards stations. Lifeguards can give you advice in safe ocean entries and safe areas Black rock at kaanapali still foes not have lifeguards
Not a mystery. There’s a reason the majority of the deaths are from middle aged men. They can seem perfectly fine in the water and be talking to you one moment, then they quietly die. People used to contribute it to full face snorkels, but now we know it’s from hypoxia induced by rapid onset pulmonary edema. Middle aged men are typically the ones who suffer from this since they’re not as fit as younger men or women in general (not due to their gender itself, but because men typically refuse going to the doctor for recommended routine exams). Breathing through a snorkel of any kind can cause this, and if you’re not in tiptop shape, this can happen to anyone. Hope that clears it up.

Hanauma bay is not on Maui lol it’s on Oahu
because they have the highest amount of snorkelers, via the most beaches, via they have the shallowest waters via they used to be Maui Nui....
