The set itself looks great, but I believe $230 for what essentially looks like a bunch of side builds is insane. Part of me wishes the set was just the seige tower, trebuchet, and the other seige equipment (leaving out the villager sections) and have it cost a fraction the price.
Or get rid of the villager sections and double the number of siege weapons and also increase the number of minifigures. Then it might be worth it.
If those little side builds were sold separately as individual small sets, it would probably cost more if you bought em all.
Def knew, and the seaside set has already sold out within 2hrs of launch, the siege set is next and probably won't last more than another hour
It does look like an awesome set. I'm glad I was able to grab two... can't wait to get them at some point!
This set has grown on me. At first I thought it was too expensive, but after giving it some time this is a very unique set and I love the builds. I think I like this better than another castle for me personally. I am going to skip the Medieval Harbor and buy this.
Same!
same here. I will buy 2 copies - one for lion and ond for BF :)
It really is as simple as just breaking all of these wonderful builds up into several smaller, more affordable sets. It could be a wave of a new castle line all on its own.
Just pretend that you're buying the entire wave in one go
So you prefer they produce 10x builds separately into 10x different sets over the course of 10x years? Why not do what they are doing right now and get it out in one shot.
@ a couple reasons… first, not everyone wants all the parts of this set and separating them would allow people to purchase just the builds they are interested in. Second, it gives more opportunity for lego to make new figs which are appropriate for the set and bring diverse prints and parts instead of repurposing figs that dont quite fit. Third, having a wider range of price points makes sets more accessible for people that have, say, $50-70 to spend but don’t have enough for $230. (Or they could spread out the cost over time instead of $230 all at once)
@ these are NOT official Lego release sets on retail. These are fan designed, fan voted, fan funded, and will be produced in a limited run by Lego if they are fortunate enough to be one of five selected winners (which is very difficult) over hundreds of designs that are not just limited to the castle theme. It’s wishful thinking that each one of these builds will win separately over the course of several series. If somehow they manage to, it would actually cost way more to purchase individual sets as opposed to one complete one.
@ fully understood. Im not saying these should each be made through the BDP, my point is that the history of success of castle sets in BDP (I think every set has sold out in under 24hrs) should show lego that there is high demand for an official castle theme. And to that point these builds would make great smaller sets for a new castle theme instead of limited release in BDP (which often gets taken advantage of by scalpers). At the end of the day its all wishful thinking and lego will just do what they want but it doesn’t mean we cant hope lol
Again, what I always come back to is: Lego keeps giving us a single expensive set priced the same as an entire wave. We could've easily gotten multiple smaller sets, a couple medium sets, and one big set each time they do this. Instead, we have to pay premium for something that takes a premium in space.
Exactly! Their market research must be completely out of whack because I get comments like this all the time. There's obviously a market for smaller sets -- maybe not as large as we think, since they're stubbornly refusing to make any -- but it exists. It wouldn't kill them to make one $20 set per year
So you prefer they produce 10x builds separately into 10x different sets over the course of 10x years? Why not do what they are doing right now and get it out in one shot
And how did you vote in this wave of bricklink designer program? Do you know that it's purely demand based?
@@BB2O2 this space is taken by gwps. Lego marketing model is brilliant and they know exactly what they're doing, I'm afraid. This is backed by their financial results.
@@tjzp there is a time frame in which you are allowed to vote on each set (not for me, like, or love). At the end, BDP (Lego) will review these, added with internal opinions, and decide which designs will become the finalist. While never proven I speculate that it's not completely a democracy.
I’m definitely getting it. I don’t see the hate for the smaller sets building up the whole. Would I like it cheaper? Absolutely, but that’s true across the board.
Agreed about the "I'd want a solid building" sentiment, but the versatility to act as a bridge set between both fortresses, as well as the amount of minifigs really sold it for me. There are very few sets that offer 18 minifigs, by themselves worth about $100 on pick-a-brick. Only Castle set I know of that beats it is Lion Knights Castle at 22, and that's massive. Combine it with the fact that it comes with decent siege equipment, well, it made enough sense in the end. Between this set and the two fortresses, you're given enough Black Falcon soldiers to assemble a commendable host for non-army-builders
As for the Seaside Market, it's versatility lies in its ability to interact with both Castle and Pirate themes. As far as Castle is concerned, it combines well with Town Square and LKC to make a larger Lion Knights port city/capital. Buy some more gray parts from pick-a-brick and integrate the port buildings into a curtain wall that surrounds the town and the castle and now you have a serious settlement for the Black Falcons to besiege.
I will probably get this one granted it is a little more than I would like to pay but that being said if I was to get instructions and then went to Bricklink to part it out I bet I wouldn’t be to far off of the $230 price. This is a unique set with 18 minifigs plus animals so that eats up around $80 of the set right there. Then you’ll pay about $150 for all the other great detailed castle builds …. Sign me up!
Medieval Town Square set is also 230 bucks but you get less farm animals and less minifigures than Siege emcampent set.
To be fair, the Town Square is an official Lego product, and it was designed by professionals. There's going to be a bit of an upcharge there
@@BB2O2 The designers of BDP sets also get a cut as well and , from what I’ve heard, a hefty one. Keep in mind that a retail set like the Medieval Town Square is produced in large volumes whereas BDP sets have a much smaller production run.
I really like the extra civilian encampments in this; the seige tower is nice, but I don't find it super necessary. I think this is my one to buy from the series
Going through the comment section, it appears that most people who voice their opinion have very little understanding of how the BDP program works so I will shed some input. This is NOT an official Lego release set on retail. It is fan designed, fan voted, fan funded, and will be produced in a limited run by Lego IF they are fortunate enough to be one of five selected winners (which is very difficult) over hundreds of designs that are NOT just limited to the castle theme. If this set were to be altered in any way; as many suggested to have it smaller, or separate the builds into different sets. If the designer did this he may NOT win. Again, you have to WIN first. It’s wishful thinking that each one of these builds will win separately over the course of several series. If somehow they manage to, it would actually cost way more to purchase individual sets as opposed to one that is complete.
Imagine if this set was pieced out in battle packs or small sets I’d be all over it
A bunch of builds all in one set is kinda cool IMO. Makes it more flexible for display or story building.
But I have a feeling if it does become an official Lego set, they are gonna change or delete a few things and in turn change the price.
But for $230, thats not bad.
Now that I see it is from sleepless night I think its really only meant for people who got the Mountain Fortress more than it is for those that got the Lions Knight Castle. I missed out on that amazing design, so I think I will just moc my own siege equipment as its just more of the same as per mini figs and there is so much added. Both should have been upgraded to ideas sets and done right. The one in the line up that really seems worth it is the train. This represents the 4-5 smaller sets LEGO should make going forward, but since its on the BLD I wonder if it causes/d them less incentive to make castle sets..... or maybe castle is too popular and they do not want everyone to only buy the new castle set and have the same out of stock issues as the beast master. Great review. That one is tempting.
this take would be true if this were a standalone set. but it's clearly only targeted at people who want to expand the lion knights castle and/or the black falcon fortress. In the context of having one or both of those anchor sets, it's a great addition.
It's totally worth it if you're into castle theme!
I wish they sold the trebuchet tower and tents as separate small sets. But it is what it is
@@elipetrou9308 that’s not how BDP program works.
I think they could have cut the herbalist, the blacksmith, and the cook and the set would be solid. It also highlights the need for more variety in the factions regarding torso prints, leg prints, and helmets. some of the figures look wonky but the trebuchet, tower and tents are so neat.
I’m buying it for the herbalist, blacksmith, the cook, and the tents. I could care less about the trebuchet and tower.
I totally agree. If you trim out some of the side builds, this set could’ve been $150-180. Which would’ve been more welcoming. $229.99 is the price of a modular.
If they trim it down it wouldn’t replicate a seige set. There’s more to a seige than just battle equipments
@@vietrounder you got that right! Time to add some life to these dull, grey monstrosities that are associated with Castle. Tsk on Sleepless Nights for making a dull grey castle though. Should’ve used different colors, like I have for my Black Falcons.
@ designers are often limited by what piece pallets are available. Sleepless knight is very talented but I’m sure his designs have limited potentials by this as well. Still I think his Mountain Fortress was great.
There’s a lot here that I like, but I just don’t want to buy it all at once.
Got a totally different opinion. I like it and will buy it.
I'm just gonna rebrick the trebuchet
This is not a standalone set. It's a companion set for Lions Castle and should be reviewed as such.
I think it all depends on what do you do with your Lego sets. If you put them on a shelf and never touches them again, it’s not worth it because the woah factor is pretty low… but if you’re a MOC/diorama builder, it is completely worth it because of the great pieces and because of how well it is gonna integrate in it… the ppm is higher than for the port, and there are more minifigures and animals, so I think stating the port worth it more is complete BS…
I won't lie...230$ is with 50$ more that it's worth...but I'm buying it and also the seaside one because I'm a sucker for medieval stuff😢
You could basically apply the $50 overcharge on every Lego set, that's the Lego brand your paying for 😂. I think it's reasonably priced and look forward to getting it! I am biased though because I'm a black falcons fan.
@@williaml7390 You're so right with the 50$ overcharge 😅btw I also like a lot the black falcons and I do wish for an official castle set for them(I didn't fully like the one from BDP series 1 so I skipped it), one that should receive the same treatment as 10305 got.
I’ve been somewhat back and forth on this, but after seeing a few video reviews of it I’m passing on this. The siege tower and the trebuchet are great, but I don’t really care for the other builds and I already have a ton of minifigs from BAM and PAB.
$250 can get a lot of lego, especially second hand.
i also feel a big BIG part of it? dDo you have the lion knight castle or the mountain castle? If not this set probably has greatly diminished value. Its a really a glorified accessory set at the end of the day... still hope i can grab one though.
None of these Bricklink sets use retired parts. All the parts used have ample supply. If you like the. Trebuchet, just part it out for yourself. Will be cheap. And if you're a guy with at least SOME lose parts in brown, will be even cheaper. And you can substitute parts of other colors for the interns;s to make it cheaper still. There is no point in ever chasing these sets.
I be more interested if they cut it in half, take away one tent the herbalist stand and some of other builds and make it a $125 dollar set
Then it would no longer be the ultimate seige set.
these sets are great but so hard to get. one unfortunately timed meeting and i probably wont have a chance at this
I’d buy it but don’t have the money and my mum hates me buying Lego
I just want the siege tower... :( 230 a bit much
It’s worth $230 and I’ll be buying 2 and opening both up and using all the parts for my Fantasy Castle MOCs.
Dove si può acquistare?
Ive no calculator handy but my rudimentary maths skills are tingling that something aint right with your arithmetic, 11.3 ppp is by my reconning incorrect. I get a bit less than 9, maybe 8.7ish at a guess because I think you are 1.3 over 10 when it should be 1.3 under 10 making it 8.7ppp not 11.3ppp. I think you divided the piece count by the price when it should be price divided by piece count.
I am probably wrong, I am no rocket surgeon.
There are only two cool elements in this set: trebuchet and siege tower. Both should be sold separately. Also: I would rather have one big and proper looking headquarters-like tent, instead of two small tents. It should be also sold as a separate set. Field kitchen and the rest of so called "camp" is totally unnecessary. I am not going to buy it.
Cool set, but way too expensive.
I will buy two copies and skip harbour
