This song is so great on so many levels. Dylan’s lyrics, it’s Dylan’s voice in his prime. Dylan nails all the high notes. It’s like magic but what always gets me is Robbie’s guitar work on this song. It’s absolutely incredible.

    • @alisonparker4799

@@ksullivan728I was having these very thoughts today. Thinking about the war and how the height of human attainment is epitomised in the ever more exquisitely technologically advanced ways we devise of destroying ourselves. If there's a God, and he is some controller of destiny, or merely watching our struggles, he must not be so pleased with the choices we freely make. So much creativity, so much beauty, so much destruction. Like nature herself. We are part of her and doomed to destroy what we should love and cherish. Breaks my heart .

My dad passed away back in March at the age of 69 after fighting diabetes, and other health issues for years. This song was all my sister and I could think about this past week when we ventured into a wilderness area to scatter his ashes. He loved the outdoors and camping. He was once a scout leader, and he inspired a lot of young folks (myself included) to get out and see the world that has been created for us. Life is short- don't let it pass you by while you waste away in a recliner watching it pass outside your living room window.....

This song, and this performance in particular is just amazing. I never grow tired of coming back and watching this video, as I have done since it was uploaded 10 years ago.
My only wish is that I could have been there to see it performed live in the flesh.
Salute to The Band and Mr. Zimmerman on a truly beautiful moment in our World's history.

Wow! I can remember seeing Dylan with the Band at the L.A. Forum in the middle 70's and these opening notes put me right back there...I'm much older now but feeling the vibe more than ever. What a treat!

I'm 55 but was last child #7 so missed out on all that. Sorta funny, having parents 40+ years older than me by time rock music came around in the 1950s my parents learned to like some rock music from their kids starting w/ my oldest brother, a teen in '50s & Elvis and ending up with me as a teen in the 70s ( and mom hated most of my music including Bob Dylan.) My parents would not have listened to anything if they never had kids...

We really should be grateful to Scorcese for capturing this event so well. I remember being blown away by it when it hit the local cinema for a couple of nights in 1978 or so. It is so well done that it has aged very well.

Apparently Dylan was being difficult and only agreed they could film one song. At the end of his song, Scorsese told the camera crew 'keep filming' - luckily for us all!
