I had this conversation with my daughter today. I asked her who would be on stage from the 90's (her teen/20's). She started giggling and said, "All the boy bands-NSYNC, The Boys On The Block, Menudo..." I just love Rick Danko’s voice. They all had such uniquely beautiful voices. I think I love Levon’s voice, then I hear Richard Manuel, then I hear Rick. Then the music writing and lyrics, then the way they all play together. It never gets old. I loved them in high school and still so many years later.

This song really shows off how Dylan was not just a great writer, he had a fantastic voice, he carries the song with a much higher pitch, but its not overwhelming, it complements the layers of instrumentals and vocals, I think this song/The Last Waltz in general is peak Dylan vocals, damn...I wish I was alive then.
I agree - Dylans' voice was at its peak around that time. But I love his voice in general. His voice - being not "Beautiful" in the way it is for other singers - was what made HIS songs so GREAT!! His voice is honest & really IS, a BIG part of his sound. It HAS changed over the years, but that happens when ya sing as much & for as long HE has. It has OBVIOUSLY WORKED for him VERY well. A PERFECT voice for the MUSIC that HE Wrote & Performed. Beautiful.
Ron Wood said that he and Ringo were just watching the concert and the promoter just dragged them up there. There was another drum set up there already as Neil Diamond had his drummer playing along with Levon Helm during Neil D's song. Whose guitar was Ron playing? Don't know that one.

Once a week we had an open stage at the local pub, free drinks for the performers. At the and of the evening, we did this song all together. Happy days.
I've returned to this performance countless times. It touches me in so many ways. As a full time musician myself, Robbie's words in the interview really gets to me. I can relate to that stare and the smile, there's nothing to do but to move forward and keep playing. It will be incredibly tough at times, but in the end it really is worth the effort and it will bring you unforgettable moments of adventure and friendship.
Bob Dylan is a genius for this. In “I shall be released” he says “I see my light come shining from the west down to the east. Any day now I shall be released.” the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, therefore he’s in the latter part of his life, turned towards the East, reflecting on the past as the sun sets behind him, which signifies the “light shining from the west down to the east”. Great stuff so much depth here.
When I was 21 years old (22 years ago), I spent a single day in Orleans Parish Prison, it was a case of wrong place wrong time/mistaken identity of which I was compensated with a settlement check a couple years later. Still it was one long scary day. When I woke up in the morning I saw the sun from the skylight shining on the west wall and at the end of the day it was shining on the east wall. This song was in my head the whole time and I always wondered if this is what Bob meant. Anyway 'I saw my light shine from the west down to the east' and that's what it means to me even if that's not what it meant to Mr. Zimmerman.
Richard was pretty much ignored in the movie, but for a brief moment here we got to hear that beautiful voice of his. At least we got that. Rest in peace, Richard.
Snake Stabler I know! I'm trying to educate how wrong it is. Manuel sings a verse alone, and he doesn't get screen time once. It's the freaking grand finale of the show and they don't even display all of the band members?
+MrDJCoulton and you could go on and on.... A show where everyone was over the top talented... What a show.. I've watched it about a hundred times in my life.
So, so sad to hear of the passing of Robbie Robertson What a beautiful person and outlook he always had! Always respected by the top music people…simple. His quote ‘It’s a Goddam impossible way of Life’ I used to listen to this many times! And a smile at the end gave me inspiration! Workable! You released now …
What a monumental moment in music history...Martin Scorsese made one hell of a film...the sound and cinematography is just phenomenal for that time period!!
Even though I'm a millennial just in my 20s discovered Bob's writings from my Uncle's old diary where his lyrics were written and since then I've only fallen in love with his work more and more and more. It gets more endearing with time. Wish I was born in your era. I love you legend Bob Dylan 💙❤️
What a massive amount of talent on one stage! I'm pretty sure all of them are Rock & roll hall of famers now. I see a lot of comments thinking Clapton was singing the 2nd verse. That was Richard Manuel. Unmistakable beautiful voice!! Probably the best concert film ever done. One can only imagine what the after party was like! Yikes!!
no way man, Joni Mitchell easily ranks on this lineup. Most underrated performer in history, fabulous voice, terrific songwriter. Not everybody's cup of tea but definitely overlooked for no good reason. artistically better than almost all of these people.
Some how, Some way WE the people have to stand up with courage, dignity and honor. If we as a people cannot find a way forward then we as people, have lost OUR way.
Awesome group of musicians, it saddens me when I see some that is no longer with us. I'm glad my 8 year old granddaughter wants to hear this music and know who these artists are. She also asked me, PawPaw whose going to get all your records and stereo when you die ,I told her it's hers if she wants it . She said ok ,that mad me so proud, I know she will listen to them and know who they are and think of me and her Nana playing them for her while dancing through the house with her, makes a PawPaw proud.
The best thing about those times is all those great musicians coming together, it just would never happen now, one of the best gigs weve witness to.. sublime.!!
Well said!! At one point, most Rock'n'Roll stars did drugs & being messed up was "cool.". I wanted to be a Rock Star (when I was young), & I romanticized the "Disease of addiction." Lucky for me, we never met anyone who sold anything other than weed, so I was safe until I "grew up.". By then, OTHER drugs WERE AVAILABLE, but there was no more "Romanticizing" of them anymore, because SO MANY of the "Stars" whom I had "looked up to" had died because of OD's. It was certainly NOT cool anymore.
What a soulful rendition of a great gospel song. The grand finale of some of the very best music and memories ever. Thanks so much Hector for sharing this incredible footage of a timeless moment. ❤
I saw this as a movie in a theater, great. Wish it would be played again on a big screen so I could share it with my children and grandchildren (makes me really old). But, all of them have experienced good music through me. Makes me happy.
I was at this show w/my wife, Molly, and my brothers, Tim and Jamie, and their dates. The greatest event we ever experienced together. Went there in a white, stretch limo, driven by a young, long-haired guy with a right pinkie finger that had a four inch nail. All the better for scooping. We rocked all night long. It was so beautiful. At 6 a.m., the limo dropped me off at KSAN, where I was doing the morning show. Then he took the rest of the gang home to Marin. Don't remember how I got home. No Ubers around. I don't think I slept until late that following night. I still get overwhelmed w/the energy in that room. Every time I see this incredible footage, I can feel it. As lucky witnesses to greatness get to say, "I WAS THERE!"
My friend got the tickets to CSN for the six of us. I asked who the lead in group was and he said I don't no. The opening group was The Band. Of course was familiar who they were but when they were done I could have left without hearing Crosby Stills and Nash and still had more than my money's worth. I love these guys.

Robbie was more than just cute he was gorgeous, movie star looks, and lots of charisma. Rick not bad looking either. Like all The Band members, but when it comes to looks I have to single out Robbie and Rick.
Yes, you are right Robbie was self made. Grew up with a physically abusive stepfather, never knew his real dad, who died before Robbie was born. His stepfather discouraged him from dreaming about becoming a musician, fortunately his mother was more supportive, if not for her, we might never had heard of Robbie Robertson. Robbie wrote in his book, we weren't poor, poor, but we were not middle class either.
@@hannejeppesen1809 He seemed mellow and smiling when he played and his attitude never showed his past upbringing as a chip on his shoulder at least to the audience. We need more people like him.
@@divalivingston1664 No I don't think Robbie had a chip on his shoulder. He wrote in his book, we were not poor, poor, but we were not middle class either. He also wrote music became his escape. He was 13 when his mother had enough of the abuse, since Robbie's stepfather would beat them both, after he gave them both a black eye, she had enough. That is when she told Robbie his real dad was Jewish. He became close to his to uncles, he was close to his mother, and she was very supportive of his musical ambition.
Likely there never will be....I'm feeling damn glad to have gotten to grow older with SO many great artists, many still here.... it's been & still is a great run

@@mikeclifford9366 lol and then makes up something based on a misunderstanding and calls it genius pffff
Zimmerman.

you can perfectly hear "down"
@@lingux_yt Yep. Look up the lyrics. We can clearly see "Unto"...
Richard was pretty much ignored in the movie, but for a brief moment here we got to hear that beautiful voice of his. At least we got that. Rest in peace, Richard.
You can thank Robbie for that... Money hungry spotlight seeker
his part gives it soul
Snake Stabler I know! I'm trying to educate how wrong it is. Manuel sings a verse alone, and he doesn't get screen time once. It's the freaking grand finale of the show and they don't even display all of the band members?
I saw him singing.
He’s on Acadian driftwood also
RIP Robbie. Thanks for so much! 😔
Joni Mitchell, Ronnie, Ringo, Neil, Van, Dylan... jesus the talent on that stage
+MrDJCoulton and you could go on and on.... A show where everyone was over the top talented... What a show.. I've watched it about a hundred times in my life.
Levon.
mds24cu Dylan looked like Jesus in 1976 to be fair
thank you jesus, you done good.
You forget clapton
So, so sad to hear of the passing of Robbie Robertson
What a beautiful person and outlook he always had!
Always respected by the top music people…simple.
His quote ‘It’s a Goddam impossible way of Life’ I used to listen to this many times! And a smile at the end gave me inspiration!
Workable!
You released now …
I just watched this, All I can say is WOW!!!!! What a gathering of talent. Wish we could go back to those good ole days when music was this good!!!!!
So Loved "The Band", this is so special, I thankfully have a DVD of "The Last Waltz"! I Very nostalgically re-visit every now & then.
Hello Dana, How are you doing?
What a monumental moment in music history...Martin Scorsese made one hell of a film...the sound and cinematography is just phenomenal for that time period!!
2.30, Neil Young is just comically high
Hahah he's having the best time!
2:30 if anyone wants the link
Trippin' ha ha!
cosmically ?
he chose joni
What a collection of music royalty...real musicians...never see a line up like that again...simply awesome and the song gives you goose bumps.
I have listened to this song countless times, along with the rest of the album. it never gets old or tired. so much talent on stage
The WORLD Would Not Be the Same Without The Band. It would B DIFFERENT - in Counless ways - and None of them Being in a GOOD Way!!
dose an old man good to see all these people from my youth together with so much positive energy
bruce levine yesss!
And, it does the same for an old lady!....
Sure Does Bruce - It Sure DOES!!
Yikes!!
I think it would have been awesome, I would have tried to pick up Dylan, it was hot 👍
I think it would have been awesome, I would have tried to pick up Dylan, it was hot 👍
love
This song will be played at my funeral. That I know.
no way man, Joni Mitchell easily ranks on this lineup. Most underrated performer in history, fabulous voice, terrific songwriter. Not everybody's cup of tea but definitely overlooked for no good reason. artistically better than almost all of these people.
I always think of my brother who passed away on 6-14-22,i know my brother is in the Arms of God now
Fabulous and unique performance in the history of folk rock! With every star singing together one of Bob's most meaningful poem/songs!
It is TRULY BEAUTIFUL - & Unlike anything Else! I Will play this Album till the day I die.
I so love this Concert video. I watch it every year around Thanksgiving & Christmas. What an event !!!!!!!!
Hello Wilma, How are you doing?
Good by Robbie Robertson and RIP ❤ ! Thanks to all the beautiful music you gave us.
Some how, Some way WE the people have to stand up with courage, dignity and honor. If we as a people cannot find a way forward then we as people, have lost OUR way.
Hi Kristin💐💐
Awesome group of musicians, it saddens me when I see some that is no longer with us. I'm glad my 8 year old granddaughter wants to hear this music and know who these artists are. She also asked me, PawPaw whose going to get all your records and stereo when you die ,I told her it's hers if she wants it . She said ok ,that mad me so proud, I know she will listen to them and know who they are and think of me and her Nana playing them for her while dancing through the house with her, makes a PawPaw proud.
🎉
Love it ❤

Watched the entire DVD twice tonight . And then came here for this song. Classic ....
The best thing about those times is all those great musicians coming together, it just would never happen now, one of the best gigs weve witness to.. sublime.!!
This man has thought me more than any class room.. just turned 20 but the relevance in the music is monumental! Forever and will ever be entranced
"The road has taken some of the great ones." I'm so glad I no longer romanticize the disease of addiction.
Amen
Lot of us as addicted to the lifestyle as the "stuff". Yeh me too ,took a while.
Sitting here on the porch, with a whisky (Scotch), after dark, mourning my good buddy and huge music soul. Rock it for Carl, Boys!
What a soulful rendition of a great gospel song. The grand finale of some of the very best music and memories ever. Thanks so much Hector for sharing this incredible footage of a timeless moment. ❤
I love watching smiling on Neil's face.
Neil always loves working with Bob.
Yeah that's great! I love Neil Diamond. And Neil Young too! x
Yeah he's havin a blast. It doesn't look like Joni trusts him though LOL.
Stuart I always thought she was just worried that chunk of coke from Helpless might hit her. Or she was just disgusted overall.
Check his nose
Oh that voice of Richard Manual, so plaintive and so good. What a line up on stage. Brilliant
Rest in peace Robbie R, we love your legacy for ever
Never, ever, so much talent stood up together on the same stage. This is the pick of all times, and all times to come.
I saw this as a movie in a theater, great. Wish it would be played again on a big screen so I could share it with my children and grandchildren (makes me really old). But, all of them have experienced good music through me. Makes me happy.
Thank you God for giving these people their talents. What a beautiful place they've made this world with their music.
Hi Beth💐💐
This is What you Call a Loaded Stage in Every Aspect of the Word--Very Moving to this Old Man of the Sixties....
randy beard
😂
I share the same sentiment with you bro, I am shedding tears of joy being lucky to experience the 60's
Neil Young smiling...priceless
Wow @marinactors lucky you.
Blown away by this song and the collective strength of the artists hear!! Wow~ much respect! Thank you` great song!!!
My friend got the tickets to CSN for the six of us. I asked who the lead in group was and he said I don't no. The opening group was The Band. Of course was familiar who they were but when they were done I could have left without hearing Crosby Stills and Nash and still had more than my money's worth. I love these guys.
Nothing like "The Last Waltz"... Simply the best.
this is THE BAND. listen to the individual performances flowing out and through this. these guys had great talent. it pops out everywhere. then they can sing too. what else can you hope for. simply great people. roc
Some of the greatest ever on that stage!
One of my favourite musicians Robbie Robertson..... Look what he has created!
Rest in peace my love Robbie❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢
So sorry for the infringe on your privacy. Beautiful song. Hello
I first listened to the Band when I was about 15 or 16. Just love this version ! I'm 60 years old now 😀😀
Not Quite 60 Yet - But I Started listening to this at about the same Age - & Will Listen to it for "Hopefully" for MANY MORE YRS!!
What a moment in the history of music, brilliant collection of musicians all in the moment.
This is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen
I saw it in a walk in moovy the..ate..her when it first came out in the 70's. I had been a Band fan for a while. It was stupendous. I am glad you liked it, Tanner.
What a moment of Rock'n Roll history! So many stars all around Bob singing with him, to say Good Bye to the BAND!
INCREDIBLE with Bob Dylan,, love that song. I shall be released.. my mantra.. but apparently it is taking longer than I thought.. I remember singing that in my 30s and here I am.. in my 60s. :) yup wow. and going down the list, Janis, Buddy Holly, Elvis.. and listing the people gone, I saw Janis Joplin too.. didn't get to see Elvis ..
This is the epitome of what music is all about right here...can't top it
What about Justin bieber he an icon at such a young age and has a lot of charisma. He is the new dylan
@@andrewhindley7548 Just no.
was working backstage at this gig,,everyone knew it was special,,time as passed,,grown old,,thats the lucky ones,,
MrHarrytrout Lucky ☺
Wow!!! Do you have any pictures from that?!
I was actually singing, I am actually Bob Dylan, there, I'm better than you.
I always thought Robbie Robertson was so cute. RIP to a self-made man. You were one of the great ones!
The Band was one cool group of gifted musicians. Real talent.
THE Band, the last waltz, incredible music, incredible talent!!!!!! They just dont make them like that anymore!
Joni Mitchell said it best about today's 'music' - "There's no muse, just ick."
No they don't
Likely there never will be....I'm feeling damn glad to have gotten to grow older with SO many great artists, many still here.... it's been & still is a great run
They sure don’t one of the best bands ever
Very FEW at Best. There is NO Comparison to THE BAND - THAT'S 4Sure!!
I can’t watch this enough❤️
The star power is unbelievable in this version of this great song!
Stellar Line Up
Stellar Music
Stellar Performance
Stellar Film
If one could assemble all The Greats in Music that are Still Alive Today, one could perform another Classic Concert
But "The Last Waltz" is Epic History.....That can Not be Duplicated Nor Topped
Just Beautiful in Every Way
Thank You. Robbie. May God Be with You.🙏
