16 years ago today, I'm surfing in Santa Cruz at Arches. Finish the set, load up, and there's a convoy of psychedelic school buses heading up Highway 1 - dozens of them. Strange. Never seen that before. Jump in the car. Heater on. KFOG on - Jerry's passed away, so I joined the convoy and headed for Golden Gate Park. I'll never forget that evening celebration of a life well lived. Thank you Jerry for all the music, which will never stop.
I got to see Bobby at Hampton Beach the night Jerry died best Bobby show but there was nothing like pure Jerry been to tons of shows nothing like being sitting on the floor b4 the stadium filled at Jerry's feet yes spoiled very spoiled hahaha so grateful
I was in Washington state on the orcas islands w a group of bicycling campers. We stayed up all night talking about jerry. The kids knew him and loved him … miss u big Jer!
When times are hard and you just want to throw you're hands up and give up.This song gives you the faith and the strength to go on. It's a very inspirational song.
Thats harsh, I'm a metalhead/punk married a deadhead didn't really get into them until after divorce. One day I was like damn really wanna hear some blues for Allah lol 10+yrs of downloading every live show I could find for wife got everything note from ratdog to Garcia band stuck in my head and I am glad for it

I miss this man so much. There is no other music that induces tears like this. I feel blessed to have witnessed Jerry Garcia perform live... many times. RIP my friend.
I can't listen to I shall be released or Ripple without having tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. I am so Thankful I was lucky enough to have been able to experience Jerry and the Dead in concert on numerous occasions
From Bob’s cerebral cortex to Jerry’s mouth, down on to his fingers from Heaven. If God could reveal himself in a song, and weave a tapestry of color along a path of lyrical nirvana, this would be it. Rest easy Jerry, you’ve served the world with more joy than any musician alive. Your devotion to its divinity is as mercurial as it was magical. Dearly, you are missed, Mr. Garcia
Seriously. "Jerry Garcia was an absolute wonder to behold. When he walked on stage, he had every single person in that room riding on his every eyebrow move, and I have never -- I go to so many concerts, I`ve never seen it again." - Trey "I put Jerry Garcia right next to Jimi Hendrix. That's the level of importance I give him in my book of rock guitarists and American musicians. Jerry Garcia is an American musical icon. He's an enormously influential American artist." - Trey
Beautiful words and oh so true. When Jerry was on stage you couldn't take your eyes off of him. I didn't get to see him nearly enough in my time, but I remember that feeling so well. He just draws you in, it's his Spirit...Magnetizing.
This was the first song I heard after he passed away. The perfect song. I still to this day we’ll up watching him here. The World was so much better with Jerry in it. One last thing, Give Phil a Hug when He gets there if you haven’t already. Miss all of You. God Bless Ya. 🙏😢✌️
The key is they never discouraged "tapers" and actually would allocate space for them at times. So it was freely allowed. And now they can be even more easily shared. Cool how the this band that was the most touring band (by far) of their key time, allowed taping and the result is we have all this material. So glad it was these guys. Not that their practice stopped anyone else from doing it. But their "wide-open-ness" gives us our big-ass smiles.

Through this world of suffering songs like these can heal the soul and help us remember that "this too shall pass." Healing is around the corner. Thanks for posting it.
Grateful live clips like this exist. Bit of a blessing for all of us. But for people close to my age that bleed music. And have a soft spot for Jerry Garcia. Its nice that I can come back to this. The first time I heard this. All the times I cried to this. Who would've thought I'd still be here. Listening to this on a better note. Life really is beautiful in the strangest of ways.
Always been one of my favorite Dylan songs. The Garcia Band has always been a revelation. Shows a different side of Garcia as opposed to the Dead. You can feel the sense of liberation in the playing.
Dylan didn't write this song. He was around at the time and performed it much. But it was Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Robbie Robertson, Garth Hudson and I'm pretty sure mostly Richard Manuel of "The Band" wrote this song.
This is my funeral song for sure. You can hear the pain and soul in every single word he sings. The pure beauty just pouring out of the darkest deepest corners of Jerry's heart dripping into his words as he sings.
As a young man, I was turned onto the Dead by a close friend in High School, and the rest is, as is said, history. I definitely jumped right onto that bus and still ride at 57. The Dead opened up a whole new realm of existence that I would have missed. We are all blessed to be part of the gestalt of this band. Jerry, we all love you.
We were so lucky to have such musical greatness, who loved there fans and found joy and soul in all they did. Yes, those were some great times, like it was yesterday... It is history and I'm glad to be part of it.
Sometimes there is one person, one voice that you hear and it gives you a feeling that everything's gonna be alright. To me that's Jerry. Grateful to have been to many shows. I miss you Jerry.

I did try the innocence project, but sense his case has now turned into a criminal case they won't touch it, sadly. Thank you for the links. I will try the other one since #GovernorMarkDayton will not return our calls. God bless you !
when i come back to these songs played by jerry (such as: i shall be released, so many roads, señor, tangled up in blue, standing on the moon....) i remember my first trip with lsd and psylocibin, i mixed them together and was one of the most beautiful moments of my life. I was living at that moment on a little island in the mediterranean in a cliff watching the inmense horizon of the sea, surrounded by the sounds of nature and music, feeling part of the earth, truly conected with her and with my dog partner and protector, a little black cat from the wild which was my best friend those years, the bees, flowers, gigant cactus, tall beings named trees, playing with the mud...oh...and the night sky of course... magical, healing...then the sunrise came and it was like a painting. i never had another trip like that and i think that music helped a lot...i listened to many artists on that trip but the best to trust were jerry garcia and grateful dead! their music seems made for trippin hahaha so peaceful
Oh and Jerry's backup singers ARE the Fates. Your story woven by them. Still in 2020. Thank you Melvin for carrying on this amazing soulful decades long jam. Saw you in Buffalo just B4 Covid lockdown 2020. I am a lucky man.
Was there ever a song whose spirit Jerry didn't completely get--and completely share? Every note on the guitar and in his voice is from-the-soul and shared-with-all. I never thought "Jerry [was] God." But I sure thank God for having heard him. And for hearing him still. And I'd go to church with Merl any time, too! Thanks, lads, for the much-needed Peace.
I will tell you that jerry's playing does more for me than any phish show...and i'm all about some phish...their verison of cities and jesus left chicago are great but jerry kills it..beauty in its purest and listen to the keys...this is where it's at...beautiful beautiful playing....jerry makes it sing

It was amazing how many songs that Jerry could remember. Thank you, Bob Dylan.

This is not pop punk song… The Band made this song…. And JGB covered it. Know your music.

Dedicated too my son ,G. MARK Bowles. Any day now, any day how, you shall be released. I've seen the light come shining from the west down to the east. Hang in there son. I love you so much....
God bless and protect you and bring about justice in your case I pray in Jesus Yeshua Christ name. I love you son..
Search Veteran Mark Bowles...you'll see how he was railroaded and blocked from all of his defense evidence and not allowed due process in Stearns County Court, St Cloud, Minnesota.
Best of luck to you. We have been exploring all kinds of avenues for Christina. Have you tried the Center on Wrongful Convictions www.law.northwestern.edu/legalclinic/wrongfulconvictions/? or the Innocence Project? www.innocenceproject.org/ I hope your son shall be released any day now!
I did try the innocence project, but sense his case has now turned into a criminal case they won't touch it, sadly. Thank you for the links. I will try the other one since #GovernorMarkDayton will not return our calls. God bless you !

+jeffking4269 Thank you so much for your prayers. You have no idea how much they are truly needed and appreciated. God bless you, Jeff.
❤❤❤ I loved Jerry so much. He is missed by many.
I ALWAYS recognize the backup singers for Jerry are THE Fates themselves, just relaxing in soul for your audio pleasure, and harmonic edification.
when i come back to these songs played by jerry (such as: i shall be released, so many roads, señor, tangled up in blue, standing on the moon....) i remember my first trip with lsd and psylocibin, i mixed them together and was one of the most beautiful moments of my life.
The guy on keyboards is the exact same embodiment of Billy Preston. God rest his soul ...
Melvin Seals. Came out of the church, just as Billy did.
Melvin Seals! I loved Billy Preston, too ☮️💜🎶
Oh and Jerry's backup singers ARE the Fates. Your story woven by them. Still in 2020. Thank you Melvin for carrying on this amazing soulful decades long jam. Saw you in Buffalo just B4 Covid lockdown 2020. I am a lucky man.
jerry is sure enjoying this. very soulful. thankyou brother. miss you jerry.
My Favorite JGB song! I LOVE YOU JERRY!!!
I got to see TheJerry Band in '92 at Warfield during "release" of Rodney King verdict. Jerry sang this and we all cried-it was so beautiful.
Absolutely BEST "Shall Be Released" version I've heard; and we all know there are plenty to chose from.
I will tell you that jerry's playing does more for me than any phish show...and i'm all about some phish...their verison of cities and jesus left chicago are great but jerry kills it..beauty in its purest and listen to the keys...this is where it's at...beautiful beautiful playing....jerry makes it sing
Anybody that doesn't feel his or her heartstrings pull has no soul... I feel you Jerry.
Beautiful. Emotional. Powerful. Soulful. Spiritual. What an everlasting gift. My favorite song of all time.
