I just used my snapon bjp1 balljoint press on a charger yesterday and it only took 45 minutes in and out but a small trick was to tap the housing while it had pressure on it and it came right out😢😢 Second Chrysler ball joint I used it on so far without any worries👍👍👍
Well detail video sir, I commend you 🙏🏿🤙🏾🤒💪🏾✌️🏾🇯🇲🇨🇦. Thanks for taking the time to guide the backyard mechanic. I would also used a shorter socket on the impact. Great idea 🤙🏾
Amm just saying you got real lucky . That cup usually just rolls off the knuckle and will not press out . 90% of the time your forced to grind off the lip so you can set the cup on the front lip to stop it from rolling off. I spent 2 days and 2 specialized for this specific ball joint presses to get one out . They also dont come on out once they move . It took a torch and 5 tone press to finally get one of mine out.
You're lucky you didn't bust that ($200) ball joint tool hitting on it. Hit the ball joint housing instead. That's only cast alloy with a steel threaded bolt.
That is a very useful video, do you think it could have been done without dismantling the entire unit? Can't get a press kit in the UK to fit on over the ball joint so the vehicle is sitting on the drive going nowhere! Parts are easy to get but the press kit! No luck at all and no dealers anymore, not that you wanna pay there prices.
Lol buddy I'll tell you something, we've done tons of ball joints in our shop. But a freaking Chrysler 300 Ball Joint With a Real Impact Gun Still takes about an hour. Sometimes "Rarely on these cars" they will come out butter smooth like in the 1AAuto video I saw awhile back.
I use a cutting torch to just heat the out side of the spindle where the ball joints pressed in then use the ball joint tool to easily push the old one out ! Once out clean the hole for the ball joint up with a wire brush plus top and bottom then use either the torch or a good electric heat gun to slightly heat the hole up then slip the frozen ball joint back in ! You have to work fast or the hole will shrink then you will need to press that ball joint in ! Heat and cold are your friends when doing ball joints ! Also never heat the ball joint it's self as they can explode and actually shoot the threaded ball joint out of the cup like a bullet so only heat the outside of the spindle where the hole is lol ! I had a friend back in the 80s who was doing ball joints on a Ford F150 4x4 who borrowed my torches and never did them before and started heating the ball joint instead of the spindle or around the outside of the hole for the ball joint and the damn ball joint exploded sounding like a 12 gauge shot gun going off and shooting the threaded ball joint out so fast you couldn't see it and putting a big chip in his concrete floor so never ever heat the ball joint it's self lol ! It was funny watching him because when that sucker blew out it scared him enough that he threw the torch to the floor thinking it was the torch that had blown up but it was the ball joint ! I have a 05 Dodge Magnum that I will be doing ball joints and those front rear control arms in the next few days so actually looking forward to doing them so one quick question ? That bad control arm looked like the rear lower for the front was it clunking when going over bumps by chance because the bushing was shot because I think that's what's causing mine to make noise as everything else is tight plus new inner outer tie rods and sway bar bushings so I know the noise isn't from those or the sway bar links as I unhooked them to check for looseness but noticed the lower rear control arm bushings were bad and cracked !
@@rejmonwilson map-gas has always worked for me.... I heat the part that I want to expand, so it loosens it's fit on the part that it's holding.... Sometimes I even spray "knock er' loose" ( a better grade of wd-40 ) on the part , in between heat-cycles just to "shock" the part and help it release....... Thanks for asking... I love sharing.
If you got that 130 kit you will be changing this cheapo kit again also...you get what you pay for....Learned a long time ago rather pay a bit more and only do it once then try to save buying cheapo parts and have to keep replacing them..even if they are LLT replacement parts...funny how you paint everything.....Better watch Freezing parts may void warranty and/or cause them to fail....
People wonder why rental tools are destroyed when they rent them...This is why..WRONG TOOL FOR THE JOB... There is a reason why this press isn't designed to be used for this, and why a normal hydraulic standing press is the right tool.... No need to drill holes and such... Use the right tool for the job instead of rigging tools...This is reason why there is no solid even surface for those cups to sit on , its wrong tool for this job ....
Just had this job done on my 2013 Chrysler 300. 3 hrs. of labor. What a stupid car!!! Cost me $400.00 with the alignment!!! And this was a good deal!!! CHRYSLER SUCKS ASS!!!
This is the guy doing the real job for this car. All of the other videos I watched were trash. Did really show you how to do it!
Drilling the holes helped alot thanks for the tip
Dude, your video saved many lives. I was gonna go postal trying this same job. Thank you so much. Great job..
U get it?
Thanks a million I’m doing this Saturday

This was great. Informative and a little funny. The boot thing was kicking my butt. Boot off all good.

Drop the tools and back away slowly....
I used an air hammer... Works pretty good, no drilling.

I spy with my little eye tools from Harbor Freight

Are you able to Great the Ball joints? (nipple?)
Not sure why yout drilling holes through the ball joint ? Never seen this in my entire life
They are a bugger to replace! Even with the big C-clamp.
When you had the pressure on the press you shouldve hit the knuckle on the control arm...it would've taken a lot less time
rick wells I'm about to do mine have you done charger ball joints before ?

If they haven’t tried one, they just don’t know!!!!
MILLER TOOL 9320 BALL JOINT REMOVER INSTALLER makes this job easier

or you could use a torch heat up the metal around the joint easy breezy
you do not have to drill any holes just use the ball joint press
Wish it was that easy, not with a damn Chrysler/Dodge
Great VIDEO!!! Good job....
You dont have to drill or put the balljoint in the freezer i put these in all the time
Wow funny video drilling and hitting the tool that screw in and out with. Hammer lmao my god all mighty hit it with the hammer again haha wow
Thanks...
Why would you drill pilot holes I don’t understand what are you talking about in this 16 minute video
$250 to rent it?!?! I would of just spent that $70 on a harbor freight set that I can keep
when you return it you get all your money back. They have a lot of tools like that
Is that Chrysler rwd?
I think putting a mapp-gas torch on the lower knuckle , would've loosened the ball-joint
Allen Traylor how did the mapp-gas work for you?
Didn’t work here

Genius
Sounds like he's never pressed one out before

Mr. Fuckin negative
Your'e not really a mechanic, right?
Hittin it!!! Its threaded!!! All wrong
Lmao 😆 🤣 I was dying 🤣
seem like you got a little busy budy. but you know how it goes sometimes
Upgrade to a Milwaukee 1/2 impact want take that long.but good job sir👍
$130 and will last a year if that. Do it right once and it'll last alot longer
Just my 2 cents, but you are punching the ball joint the wrong direction. It goes out the way it went in
definitely not, it wouldn't be able to come out the other way.

The holes lost me 😭
I mean its the right tool but he's using it wrong lol

Totally done wrong...
I know this is an old video but I hope you invested in a tripod by now.
Making us seasick.
