All the tutorials I've seen consider underwater shots in tropical waters or in any case with a lot of light and in shallow water. If you usually dive let's say below 40 meters or maybe in lakes(use a magenta filter below 6-10mt), everything turnd around the light and unfortunately the GoPro sensor is very small, so you don't have much margin. In low light conditions I recommend keeping the frame rate at 30 (Minimum resolution if Full HD) and the ISO at maximum 400 (increasing it means grainy image). Post production is a must if you want to recover some colors, so white balance on "native". Sharpness= low, EV=-0,5. A steady hand and a tray are a must if you want a decent result.
I LIKE THE WAY YOU ARE CLEAR AND CONCISE WITH HOW TO DO DIFFERENT THINGS. I JUST BOUGHT MY GOPRO HERO 9 AND GOING TO ST THOMAS EEEEKKKK CANNOT WAIT TO GET SOME GREAT FISH VIDS.

Great video! Just got the Hero 9 and I just started Scuba Open Water Training! Also I'm going to Discovery Cove with the family in over a month so I want to be ready for that
You are very professional and experienced for such a young age! I have never used a Go Pro at all but having a love of photography I thought when I go on my first cruise next year it would be lovely to capture underwater footage so stumbled on your video. I must say though I was laughing because I have a deep fear of sharks so no amount if stabilisation would work if a shark was coming straight at me! You would see me running on top of the water with a fin close behind like a cartoon lol 🦈🤣😂 My limit will be a breath easy snorkel mask so just my head under surface. I get what you say about using a filter or colour correct in editing because I colour correct in editing photographs. Marvellous videos thank you 🙏🏻
Raymond, great video!!! What video editing software do you use? Recommend? Have you tried using other versions of software? Recommend against using any?
Thanks! And most of the time I just use plain old iMovie on my Mac. iMovie on MacBooks is actually a really good and simple software to use. If I'm making more complex edits then I use Adobe Premiere Pro.
I bought a gopro9, as well as the clear protective casing...im gonna dive some wrecks(spiegel, etc) in the keys. Will i be able to use the filters on the camera with the casing?
Got problem with my gopro..After the cliff diving i did after canyoneering ,I dropped my gopro to the bottom ad stayed there for 30 minutes of about 5 meters deep. After that my gopro wont turn on anymore using the power on & off button.it only turns on when I am charging it and stays on the whole time while charging. Any idea >?
My only guess would be that either water somehow leaked inside your GoPro or the impact from the water messed it up. It sounds more like water somehow got in your GoPro while it was under there. This happened to one of my Hero 7’s a while ago. Contact GoPro and let them know about your issues, because when I did they sent me a new one for free.
@@FintasticFilms thanks for the answer ! I'll do it since it's still in a warranty period as well. Just not sure how long it will take since I'm in the Philippines. God bless :) . Great channel 👍 handsome
I use it underwater without case in 3 meters dept of pool and i notice some moist in backscreen beside lens. A few days after that event. I notice it when i taking a video during sunny day. And its fading while it gets hotter.i didnt know where is that water goes in. But when i check inside. The batterry seems fine and dry
Fantastic video. I just bought my first gopro and it was of course the hero 9. I bought it mostly for diving so any editing tips you have would be great. FYI I cold water dive so less to see......literally 🤣
If you're somewhere real humid it can fog up. The best way to avoid this is by leaving your casing outside in the warm air for a few hours before diving.
Hi Raymond , thanks for the video, i have a question, did it ever happened to you that while underwater, the H9 only records sound? its a bit frustrating when I get back home to check my videos, and (its already the 2nd time it happens), a bunch of sound files instead of the gopro Mp4... any advice or solution? ive check settings already but theres nothing there. would it be a shortcut like pressing the record button for a bit of time, or just a quick tap... by the way the only setting i have changed is the screens off during record, and my preset image mode. let me know, if you have any advice, thanks
The only explanation I can think of is that your computer/laptop or phone isn’t compatible with HEVC. This is a video compression thing that you need when filming in high quality. GoPro has a chart on their website that tells you which resolutions and frame rates need HEVC compatible devices. If you’ve been filming in something that needs HEVC, then that’s probably the issue. If not, I’d try contacting GoPro about it.
Hey, I have a couple questions about the GoPro hero 9. Does The Max have to have a case to go underwater? And also do you have to have a camera stabilizer to make it look good?
I believe the Max is only waterproof down to 16 feet (5m). So if you're going deeper than this you'll need a case. As for stabilization, the Hero 9 has hyper smooth which works great, so you don't really need a stabilizer unless you really want one.
I currently had a problem with salt water in Dominican Republic, annoyed , I filmed the first day next day it didn't work. Looked inside , seems like there was a leak , I had a case but not the deep water case , so highly annoyed I was not in deep water was in shallow and it died and count take anymore footage , made me sad ... I'm seeking a new type , but I just loved my go pro till then. But I'm going to always use the case even in shallow water . Or maybe u can't be in water for more than 10 min idk....
The biggest problem I have with my gopro 9 (and 4) is that blue water turns to green. I'll try manual white balance to fix this. I'm unsure of the settings available and what setting I'll need to use but I'll figure it out.
Unfortunately you can't turn slow-motion on and off while underwater. But if you're filming at 60 fps or higher, you can still get slow-motion while editing. Thanks for all the questions!
@@FintasticFilms thanks ! Bought the GP9 and who knew I just entered into a whole new world of options, overwhelming to start but I watch your channel and it helps a lot. 🙏
I liked the tips, but somehow missed the good lightning. I cold find lots of noise in your darkest footage, which is cause by low light. conditions and higher ISO. Therefore a couple of underwater lights would have helped a lot with those sharks :)

Super helpful. If I am snorkeling do you recommend a waterproof case for a go pro hero 9?
I usually use one when I'm snorkeling, just to make sure my camera will be protected.

do you need a waterproof case or something for the gopro to be sure its not going to be ruined?
The Hero 9 itself is waterproof down to 33 feet. If you plan on going deeper than that, you'll need an underwater housing for the camera.
Fantastic video mate! What video editing software do you use?
So do I just want To use hyper smooth or hyper smooth boost ? For underwater
I've always used regular hyper smooth while underwater. Hypersmooth boost won't make too big of a difference while underwater.
does need a protective housing for snorkeling?
Thank you, very useful

My gopro 9 black is out after underwater session. depth max 7 m.
Is waterproof case must if I want to shoot video under the sea
Can I use my gopro9 in water without any protective case? I am dubious if its waterproof
The hero 9 is waterproof by itself down to 33 feet. So you won’t need a case unless you’re going deeper than that.

Any idea if the wifi signal is usable if it's under water in a aquarium ( lie streaming wifi out of a aquarium). Can't figure that out.
I've never really tested the range of the wifi signal, but depending on how deep you go, it might work.
@@FintasticFilms OK! Well it will be mounted to the glas, so it's like 2cm of water 😂
Would I use GoPro slo-mo? Or just use slo mo in editing?

should i use a case on my hero 9 while in the saltwater, or is it good to just wash with fresh water after.
As long as you wash off the salt water afterwards, you don't need to use a case.

Can u use GoPro 9 underwater without protective housing
Is’t waterproof
That’s why I’m here too because I use it to bodyboard and idk if it is really water proof
It's ''waterproof'' but for extra safety I'd get a cheap waterproof case off amazon. (not the original $50 gopro one, way too expensive)

Is a waterproof case necessary?
Only if u go over 33 feet deep / 10 meters
Why have the last 4 gopros only been waterproof to 33 feet
I think they all expect you to get a housing for deeper
