      @@frumiousgamingI recommend it. When either Makoto Fox or Majin Obama are doing commentary, you can learn a lot about the game’s more nuanced mechanics, even if you don’t understand all the jargon they use in the beginning. This week I started to watch more tournament play of the other modern French Bread game, Under Night In-Birth. I couldn’t appreciate it (aesthetically) as much as Type Lumina initially, but I’m into it-it’s core mechanic impacts the game in interesting ways-and I’m excited to play its sequel in January

    In defense of the A B C button thing, using console specific button would be more confusing as the here is no Square, Triangle, or circle buttons in Xbox and PC and with people having unique controls setups ESPECIALLY on stick or hit/mix box just having the A B C inputs makes it universal and u can actually follow along to an online tutorial, something u will definitely need as a new player once
    u've understood the game at its basics

    • @frumiousgaming
      @frumiousgaming  Год назад +5

      Yeah that is a fair point, its more an issue for the total beginner in like their first hour playing the game

    • @MokonaModokiES
      @MokonaModokiES Год назад +4

      ideally a toggle between both settings should do the job. Specially if its easy to see it and use. Like it does in tutorial for replay or moving to next stage.

    • @insignia2821
      @insignia2821 Год назад +1

      @@MokonaModokiES If by toggle u mean chosing between A B C and Square Triangle Circle then the problem stays a the same because almost all new players will pick the one based on their console and be more confused when having to learn notations.
      A B C D, 1 2 3 4, P K G, and LP LK MP MK HP HK are fine as it is because players don't take long to understand them even for those who've never played anything but DND. It sounds easier to add console buttons but it makes it worse in the end for those who got use to them. It's like learning to drive in the US and then in the UK, it's unfamiliar and wonky and we have enough of that type of problem learning combos on both sides of the screen as a beginner to begin with. Don't even get me started on having to learn num-pad at the same time. Official notations are the best way to start. "Better to learn a language early than to learn a new one later".

    Stumbled upon your vid. I think this was a very good overview of what the game has to offer and was interesting to hear about your experience as someone with limited prior fighting game knowledge. Already a big fan of French bread, but was nice seeing that you had a relatively good experience. You're correct that most of the playerbase is on PC, with a sizable minority having it on Playstation.
    If anyone that finds this video in the future picks up the game, I would recommend you get it on one of those two platforms and like mr Frumious Gaming discovered, that you do not go through the general tutorial all at once. Doing some and then playing while trying to implement the concepts you learned, even if its against a cpu or training dummy, then going back will not only keep it more engaging, but will help with internalizing the concepts.
    One thing that is not mentioned understandably so as it is not part of the game package itself, is that for a lot of fighting games there are generally some community discord servers where you can find games and get advice. Most of these servers from my experience will also have beginner matchmaking channels to help you find someone who is also starting out or may be more similar in skill than you may find just going into ranked outside of sales or other times that give a relatively big influx of new players.

    I am no veteran, but Ive played MBaacc (the previous melty game) for about a year and almost 2 and I love this video
    I am not much of a Type Lumina player, but I do recognize its probably a better game for begginers, though I still recommend you give the gool ol mbaacc community editon a go! (Even though its like 10x sketchier since you pretty much have to play on discord servers, steam version is really dead and with bad netcode)
    That aside tho, I really enjoyed this! I like your perspective on the game and how you actually tried to learn from the game as you played. I do agree with the crossplay problem, I feel its one of the main reasons the game has about the same or even less players than mbaacc right now, if it wasnt for that it would be a 10/10 for fighting game begginers

    The type moon universe is a huge mix of many, many different things happening with loose bits connecting it all story wise, but having a general setting and mechanics that rarely change, but get added to quite often (Fate, Garden of Sinners, Tsukihime, Witch on the Holy Night, and all of their spinoffs).
    Mages and magic are extremely prevalent (with many mages being assholes or at minimum having self interest at the forefront), vampires are here every now and again, weird supernatural things keep cropping up in general, and people die fairly regularly, either with little fanfare or in some of the most gruesome ways possible. Their mainline games/visual novels come from the Fate franchise, which also comes with their most varied characters, story, and financial success through gacha games ala "Collect the heros and villains, all the while spending way too much money finding your waifu or husbando."

    Necoarc is quite a popular character , she even scored the most demand in terms of DLC characters! As kids growing up my brother used the character often, the character is also quite deep to learn. A great example of how silliness can lead to the most innovative ideas

    Great vid! Have you tried Dead or Alive 5/6? It's a 3D fighting game series set in the Ninja Gaiden universe with cool interactive stages and counter mechanics. Both 5 and 6 have a free to play version with online play. I personally prefer 5, though 6 naturally is more active, but both have a decent playerbase on PS4/5.
