A group of us are looking at a little cruise-ation without air travel ... Harmony will work for us. Glad to see there is exercise equipment, a bit of entertainment and lots of space to sit and watch the world go by. Am a fan, you do a great job!
If you end up sailing on her, you'll be within about a mile of my house at one point! Let me know if you end up booking it, and I can suggest some excursions. Also, if you need a travel agent, I've got a good one I can recommend to you. She's a certified travel advisor for American Cruise Lines.
We just scheduled our first river cruise on this boat and your videos gave us a lot of great info. We are even more excited for our trip in July after seeing these. Thanks for making such awesome videos.
Was looking for a local cruise ... easy to access from home. Your videos on American Cruise Lines and the options on the West Coast was a good fit. Love the complete tour of the ship, sights off the ship, and all the info. Thanks.
I really enjoyed getting a tour of a river cruise ship. I`ve cruised alot on ocean liners in additon to river cruises in Europe and have noticed that this ship was very sparsely decorated. The dining room looked very cold and uninviting, hallways very plain and no artwork hanging anywhere. But am still going to look into a river cruise with American! Thanks for bringing this.
American Cruise Line should consider adding a small pool and jacuzzi to the top deck. New river ships are adding pools, and it really is a nice amenity!
Great tour! Makes me want to take a river cruise. Do any of your videos cover the menus (breakfast/lunch/dinner) offered in the dining room? Also what was up with the missing ice scoop in the first ice machine you showed? I hope everyone was considerate with the communal ice. :D
The engine is also where the boat, "attaches," to the water, so if you are prone to sea sickness, this might be the most stable place to be, and some people might like the constant sound of the motors while sleeping, like white noise. Hum, I wonder if those cabins are at a reduced price?
Great information! We were scheduled to go on our first cruise with Holland America, but just had to cancel for the third time, so we are considering doing a cruise on one of these instead. I appreciate getting to see what it looks like. Do you happen to know if they can accommodate food intolerances?
What an excellent video. You answered one of my big questions -are there elevators. I have a scooter to get around walking any major distance -how friendly is the ship do you think? I saw, at least I think, that the doors going outside had a big lip to go over. Thank you!
I think I remember seeing someone with a scooter on the ship. You could get the definitive answer by simply calling up American Cruise Lines and asking if they would allow you to bring your scooter onboard or not.
Very nice review to watch for us in Europe:) Just a question, whats the name of that online shop you are buying ur cruise things like hooks to hang in the ceiling, and the clamp for the towels etc?? sorry my english:(
JIm -- In future videos, please tell us the SIZE OF THE BEDS. Double bed, Queen size, etc. That would be most helpful! Your videos are VERY well shot and informative. Jason Gant, Retired DGA Television Director, 20th Century Fox Studios
I am such an idiot! That never occurred to me. I like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent person... but why in the heck did I not think of that?!?!? Yes, they absolutely would have fit if I had opened them up and laid them flat.
@@JimZim I'm chuckling; no, Jim, you are not an idiot. For me it was a question of concern. I've had to do that before, so I just wondered if that was an option on this cruise line. There's little space to begin with--don't want to take up space with suitcases. Thanks for sharing all the beautiful pictures. I'm debating a Mississippi River cruise OR driving the Highway. Advantages and disadvantages with both choices.
Standing vertically next to the dresser. It's a bit unsightly... but I just had to get used to it. I prefer stashing it under the bed so that I don't have to look at it for the entire cruise.
I feel like for the price, I would like to have interiors that don't feel so plain (daresay nursing home-like). I feel like a good interior designer could really make this feel up to Seaborne and Viking levels.
I completely agree with you. Some of the interior design choices of drapes and carpets and furnishings were off the mark. I think it may have something to do with the fact that they have old-style paddleboats in their fleet and with the paddleboats they were trying to evoke an era of the 1800s. Somehow they didn't quite figure out that with their modern riverboats, a much more contemporary interior design was called for. Really, all they need to do is spend a night at the Four Seasons hotel in St Louis and copy that style in the interior design of their ships. I recently completed a cruise on the newest ship in the ACL fleet, American Melody, and the interior design choices were better than on American Harmony. So, I think they're starting to get it.
Next time can you cover to see what kind of ship's infirmary or hospital they have aboard ship in case of an emergency is there a Doctor just in case paramedic maybe next time they can let you see the bridge Pilot House do they do Morse code or what kind of radio system do they have just in case if there's an emergency in case of somebody has a heart attack do they cover these type of situations why I'm asking I've never been aboard those ships paddle boats I'm more used to Aircraft carriers
There's a medical person onboard. I don't know if it was an actual MD, or what... but yes, there was a trained medical person that you could go see if you weren't feeling well, or who would come to you if there was an emergency. As far as how the pilot house would call to get help in an emergency... one of the nice thing about a cruise through America's heartland is that there are cell towers all around. It's not like you're out in the middle of the ocean.
I just finished a river cruise on the Columbia River and also did a Mississippi River cruise during Covid. We were almost never out of cell fun range and there was an EMT on board. Most of our time is spent in port in towns with a hospital. On the trip during Covid, an ambulance did take a passenger to the hospital.
No where in this thing does the the narration tell us WHERE this boat goes. Apparently how many towels there are and where the fitness room is are of greater importance than where the heck you are in the world.
If that's what you were looking for, you were just watching the wrong video. I made four different videos about this cruise, covering different aspects of it. Try watching this one instead: ruclips.net/video/RJWk32Flsps/видео.html
Thorough video that seemed to cover everything on board but no thanks to this type of ship, or any other type of ship. I will remain on land or fly to where I need to go.
No idea why these cruises are so expensive.... Looks like a dated nursing home.... And unless I missed it a two hole mini golf course was all the excitement provided????
A cruise like this is not about the ship, it's about the things you see and do at all the places you visit. It's really an interesting way to explore North America. I've done six cruise with American Cruise Lines. If you watch some of the other videos I've made about these trips, I think you'll see what's so special about these trips. It's definitely not about the ship... that's just a comfortable way to get you there.

You're welcome! I'm glad the videos helped!

Very nice job showing the ship, very pleasant voice also!
Been waiting for this video Jim, thanks for the tour.

I feel safer without all the clutter of "decorations ". The ship looks very comfortable and clean. And it looks very well kept and updated, as well.
The ship is beautiful!! the cabins are super nice looking!! Thanks!!
This is very useful for someone who might be working for this line soon.
did you end up working for them? I did 4 months and I liked the job but not the company.
Glad to see this tour posted. Great video.
Some wallpaper and artwork would be nice... It's very institutional-looking.
Not an issue...
He explains very clearly. He is saying fore, aft, port. He describes the common areas and the elevator and stairs. It's like he's a map maker.
American Cruise Line should consider adding a small pool and jacuzzi to the top deck. New river ships are adding pools, and it really is a nice amenity!
there is no room. those are larger ships.

The ice scoop was just outside of the ice machine.
Sorry, but I didn't cover the menus in any of my videos.
looks nice. I'm just so tired of those dry, crumbly Nature Valley granola bars, but otherwise it looks like they have the essentials.
Loved the video! Very informative. I’m assuming there’s no salon or spa on the cruise. And what line of bath amenities does American use?
Thank you for the Great video
thanks! have you been on the American Star? Scheduled to go Jul 2nd....would love a tour of the ship
Sorry... no, I haven't been on that one. I've been on American Melody, American Harmony, and American Constellation... so far.

Keep up the Great work

Definitely yes. My wife has to eat gluten free and dairy free, so I have seen how this works. They handle it quite well.
great video

As long as your scooter comes equip with a bell and/or horn to press at anyone/anything in your way! Tip assist is also recommended but not required.
Very nice review to watch for us in Europe:) Just a question, whats the name of that online shop you are buying ur cruise things like hooks to hang in the ceiling, and the clamp for the towels etc?? sorry my english:(
Lately I just stick with Amazon.com
Very informative. Thanks.
On the cruises I've taken not a riverboat they usually come and get your luggage and store it for you.
Thanks for the tour. Has anyone experienced motion sickness on a river cruise?
It would seem very unlikely to me. These rivers are more like lakes. There's very little rocking or side to side motion.
I like ocean cruising, but my wife is not so keen. This is an interesting alternative.
Do they have any rooms below the waterline where's the ship's Infirmary
My next video, which will be coming out a few days from now, will address that very question of what's below the waterline.
I would love to go on this boat

Hi Jason
I'm pretty sure the beds were queen sized.
Storing luggage in your cabin is always a concern. If you opened your luggage to lay flat, would they fit under the bed?
I am such an idiot! That never occurred to me. I like to think of myself as a reasonably intelligent person... but why in the heck did I not think of that?!?!? Yes, they absolutely would have fit if I had opened them up and laid them flat.

i was just on the American Harmony in a single room. I had no trouble storing my luggage but it was of the soft duffle bag kind so it was flatter.
So where did you put your luggage?
Standing vertically next to the dresser. It's a bit unsightly... but I just had to get used to it. I prefer stashing it under the bed so that I don't have to look at it for the entire cruise.

Looks like most of that was filmed while docked in Hood River, OR.
