Liked this. You should show Brandon how to use color management in Resolve. I think his video is getting swayed a lot by the red tools. ACES or DaVinci color management might change it up for him.
@@bwashmedia still edit in FCPX because it’s dope but Resolve unhooks the camera from the LUTs and tools. You could even make a red LUT and convert the LF Log into Red Log so they would both have Red’s color.
Me eye must be amazing, because I could clearly tell that camera 1 was the Alexa. Arri’s highlight and shadow technology always gives it away. They don’t focus on resolution like other companies, they mainly focus on highlight and shadow rolloff.
Great video, thank Robert and Brandon. One question, would you get the Alexa 35 over the Mini LF if you had to buy one today? I know you didn't go with the Venice, which surprised me.
That's a great question. The large format look is great but I don't think it's for everything. I might honestly go with the Alexa 35 for it's versatility and new color science/DR. The Venice is still an awesome camera and would probably be a close 2nd.
@@robchado Yea, the color science is blowing me away. On the business side, what do you think the Alexa 35 would rent for? And how long would it get that premium rental pricing?
RED doesn't really deal with highlights very well at all due to its monochromatic fake highlight recovery. Also loses lots of shadow chroma information thanks to heavy chroma spatial filtering which also creates the blotchiness mentioned here. ARRI and Sony Venice are the way to go in the high end market.
As a Red V-Raptor owner, I think these two cameras serve two different purposes. Also the majority of these differences can be easily changed to match at post, especially for a R3D footage. However, I think for skin tone, Alexa can beat Red easily, and even though I’m a RED owner, I always have the dream of getting myself an ARRI one day. However, you have to realise a true 4K ALEXA LF also costs nearly 40,000£ more than the Red V-Raptor…. :////
@@JoshSmith-ct3fi cuz alexa 35 is 90,000£ for a shooting package and RED V-raptor is 20,000£... at the end of the day, lighting and lens make the most different, so I save 70,000£ to invest something else rather than get a perfect camera. If you mean the old alexa mini, is still around 30,000£ and it cannot shoot 4K and is not Netflix approved.
I respect filmmaking youtubers like you brother - not afraid to push the shadows into the darkness and have more editorial look overall all the best of puck to you 🙌 🥃
after shooting on a full frame sensor for a year and a half, its so hard to go back to super 35. To me it just feels so immersive and has a different look forsure
To be honest with the model on the chair(1:16) the raptor looked better to the eye even on the skin tones but why did she look more compressed than the raptor ?
seems like a pretty strong word... im not seeing it "destroyed" at all. As an Alexa mini owner, I'm actually really interested in purchasing the V raptor X, and I'm loving what I'm seeing from it.
continues to be the best at giving the best and most in depth comparison without ballooning the run time. super appreciate you.

Please do! I really am trying to learn how to get the most out of the LF. If you have a resource please let me know.

Nice video Rob. I think I saw a pipe light in there at one point. Did you buy one of those? I love those lights

I think the biggest question here is if you want full frame or s35

Hows the alexa mini super 35 vs the alexa lp? Other than sensor Size is there a significant difference in image quality?

Are u in LA or Vegas doing Netflix union work ?
I have the Mini LF......Now Alexa 35 coming soon to my rental house. Even though you get more with red but arri is the most requested over here.
I want to thank Robert for taking a break from Bench Pressing 500lb 20+ reps to do this review.
B Washington! What t shirt are you rocking?

Good video sharing!!! Thank you
At :46 I can see where the Arri skin tones are better but the raptor has more low light pop to it . ! So they Red raptor looks better at :46

Easily

Lol Brandon is such an amateur, he has a red and dosn’t even know he could actually switch on a digital leveler 😂
