Never thought I'd be doing camera tour videos LOL
Patience and time it requires to build it. Its amazing
I just got a Sony ZV E10, on your recommendation and I love it. I know it’s not a pro camera but it’s my first real one. I decided it was time to get serious and put the Powershot down and pick up something more quality for my first camera purchase.
You broke the rule of photography, always invest more in lens over body hahahaha
Show us some Commercials you make with it or some Movies :)
Portland, JAMAICA in the Building!!! 👑🇯🇲🔥💥🌟⭐💯💎
I wouldn't write off the EVF so quickly. The LCD monitor is more for reference anyway, but using the actual EVF eyepiece is much better than an external monitor in my opinion. Aside from an accurate picture of your frame, you also benefit from a focused view, sans distractions or ambient light, of what you're shooting. External monitors have brought so much convenience to filmmakers, but there are some real upsides to the old school method of using an eyepiece.
This was a Small HD monitor review disguised as an arri mini lf camera build 😅
100%
matti is more a youtuber with excess funds aspiring to do his first real thing. Feels like the step from mirrorless to ARRI is not up to the skillset yet. you'll find a lot of DoPs using viewfinders on real sets. be it commercial or film. Still envy him for being able to afford this, even if it's more like a toy than a workhorse for him.
I have bad eyes, I used to have to use the eyepiece shooting basketball games and I was always getting soft images trying to focus. But I can see your point
Legit! I always operate with the viewfinder.
I've worked in the film industry for a little over 23 years and it's crazy how much camera equipment has been minimized. It used to be a pain to get space on a set with the old 35mm cameras, worse if the magazines were 1000ft.
Now it's much easier to move around, especially for steadycam operators.
Great video Matti, I really enjoyed it
Still, compared to consumer cameras, these are giant. Probably they don't use custom silicone, otherwise it could be 4-5 times smaller.
And what about Sony Venice cameras, where you can detach whole sensor and hold just a little box, while rest of the camera is on your back or somewhere else conected via cable (up to 12 meters) and fit it places you would never be able to. James Cameron could walk around with whole two sensor IMAX 3D camera rig by himself.
@@Stasiek_Zabojca I worked on the original Avatar and Alita Battle Angel ; )
I’ve PM’ed a ton of large scale commercials and we still shoot 70% on 435 or so. Last 2 years I’ve done 30 sets and we are shooting on LF/mini/ 435 & it blows my mind into why….
@ravholly what did you contribute exactly? Mostly just curious.
The EVF to me is one of the best features of the LF…allthough yes, the screen could definitely be better but tp be able to switch quickly between evf and a screen is very practical, and when run-and gunning i dont really think you need a seperate monitor. I really miss this on other cameras which often dont have such an integrated EVF
I wish this video existed years ago but I am glad you made it. It will definitely help a lot of people who are starting out never having touched an arri before. It is important to note that for power while you can have lower voltage batteries, for the arri 35 and the red monstro you need 24 volts. And this is for anyone to know, because if you get either of those cameras on a project and you don't have 24 volt batteries the camera will NOT turn on at all. Hope this helps someone.
Yep it’s for the next gen filmmakers 😊
@@mattih love that
You don't actually need 24v for the red monstro. I use 12v vmounts with it all the time through the standard vmount plate. I think the Raptor XL uses 24v tho
@@joshkiddfilms1295 You're right that's my bad it is the Raptor XL. There so many names I can't keep track of them all. Good catch.
This video feels like when I was in elementary school and my friend invited me over to his parents house to watch him play computer games. 😁
we got it dude, you bought an arri....
Watching you giving this tour made me realize that everything is possible in the content creator world matti. You always inspire me. Cant wait to see the epic content you will create with this beast 😊
Now you can do cinematic b-rolls with a $100K camera 😂
Yah Matti! Stoked to see the projects you have upcoming on this rig! Heres some support towards extra memory that thing is going to rip though
I have your ND filters for my gopro hero 9 :D
@@mariusandersen2952 :)
@@mariusandersen2952 So that's basically your money he just gave to him :)
Curious what projects you work on (other than RUclips videos) that would justify the purchase of this camera?
Great question.
Honestly the EVF is the best part of the miniLF imo,
"It's adult lego" LOL! Couldn't have worded it any better. I remember when I was first building my rig, it was literally like going through a fresh new Lego set as a kid.
Watching from Kenya... how I wish I even had my own camera .. You inspire alot of young people especially me❤😢
The Matthew Lilard look alike is crazy!
I would recommend using the P-tap on the battery mount rather than directly on the battery, avoids having to unplug/plug it back every time you change your battery.
Appreciate this video as I still 100% get anxiety looking other people's rigs, thinking I don't know what I'm doing. Demystifying it helps a lot, thanks!
Dude an EVF is so much better than a monitor. And yes the fold away LCD screen on the MVF-1 sucked but the one on the MVF-2 which you have is the best one out there
Bro. Why are you using a 50 ohm BNC cable for your monitor on $90K+ camera?
That cable is for time code, not video transmission.
You need a 75 Ohm SDI cable and connectors.
Matti, your enthusiasm is contagious. The channel has progressed. Congratulations on the camera and executive producer. Props!
Man, I feel like a jerk for saying this, but when even a multi-million dollar movie rents this camera, you owning it for social media likes is, well, kind of gross.
You don’t know what else he’s going to use this for lol. Commercial production houses often own cameras. DPs often own cameras to help them get work (the production pays an extra rental rate to the DP in that case). Matti’s been saying he wants to do more non-RUclips work for years, and he even said in this video that he’s not using it for RUclips most of the time. I know a guy who bought an Alexa Mini several years ago to get his foot in the door as a drone cinematographer and now he’s working on Disney and Marvel productions. When you’re working, expensive gear pays for itself.
@@Billitteri You very well may be right, maybe this is an "ad" for rental business, but all I can see is what I can see.
This really helped!!! Thank you.
I started work in film industry a year ago and I got a chance to work on big production as a first film experience and before that time I've never seen cinema camera before. I felt like I really interesten in it, but the look of the camera freaked me out - all those kabels and bracket, i had no idea how it works and I'm still learning:) So when I poped into this video and I heard the first words, I was like - omg that exactly what I thoungh and how I felt. Thank you for this video! So usefull!
I am lucky enough to have used one of these
You should make a competition with Peter and Chris Ramsay - who makes the most epic b-roll with the equipment each has. You ofcourse will have to try compete with your 100k camera. Would make one epic collab between channels of you 3. Each making an intro for imaginary puzzle for Chris' channel.
Could you maybe ship this to / meet with Gerald so he can run it through his test suite? It would be really interesting to see his opinions and the tests he does.
Yes i know cined probably has done the DR and sensor readout speed tests, but it's always good to have another point of reference.
Cheers.
You actually forgot to mention one really crucial thing Sir Matti...A Gym Membership! Happy to witness these monumental and motivational milestones as always.
you provided so many details which i'm grateful for but you never said how much you paid for it, which is weird considering you said it "costs $90,000 USD - i didn't pay that much for it" and then proceeded to omit how much you did pay for it, so it seems like a deliberate choice to not share that information. just wondering why?
He mentioned the price in a previous video and even shared the moment he went to the bank and make the deposit. I think was around 65K.
Man I really can’t wait to deep dive into filmmaking
Okay, great, now what amazing film will you make with this? Because gear is power obviously. So show us how your gear will translate to you making award winning movies, which actually ironically does not require the most expensive gear.
Wow! Amazing video! (one thing though - maybe not have that shallow depth of field with the camera in front of you)
Cool setup. You need the DJI AI autofocus system strapped into your rig.
I see lot of people hating on you! I guess just to justify their failure! Lol
You earned it, you bought it, you do whatever you want to do with it.
You are not answerable to anyone! Do whatever you want, sir!
Good luck!
Matti: "So you might have heard I bought a $90,000 Cinema camera..." 🎥
Me: You mean the one you've mentioned if your last 13 videos? 😋😆
Yes that’s the one 😊
This is epic! I'm so stoked for you! Congratulations on your acquisition. I hope you really, really, really enjoy it.
Buying a camera like that for filming B-roll? Makes no sense.
I'm really enjoying this new era! Congrats 👏👏👏👏
Can't wait to use it on my tik tok video
আপনার ভিডিও আমার কাছে খুব ভালো লাগে 🇧🇩
Well, we are looking forward for movies Matti. Let's go!
Congrats Matti, the camera looks beautiful
Look forward to seeing what you do with it. Welcome to the world of “need more accessories”. It never ends, but its so much fun. Sure doesn’t look “mini” - I kid! I kid! Enjoy your cam!
The Arri CCM-1 should do the trick on ditching that bulky viewfinder setup!
Yo matti excited that you got you an Alexa. When you DP in a major city in the states let me know I would love to be your AC and help clean up the build for you lol. Congrats again man !
Can't wait for the output. Matti! Congrats! 🎉🎥👏🏼
Super relatable title.
Has anyone seen an Ad he made? I mean with such a camera I expect someone to work on very large production sets😮
Jo Matt, they literally just released a monitor with full control through the evf port, so I guess you’re in luck, cause the only thing that seemed to annoy you about the camera got a very anticipated upgrade. Congrats on the new camera and enjoy the new “CCM-1” release. Get ready to spend some money tho.
Hey Matti, lovely videos, just a tiny suggestion - could you shoot a less shallow DOF because my eyes keep going to the desk where the camera is and its all blurry...
what a FLEX
I would like to see some footage from it. I know many videos out there but maybe some comparison videos with other brands like Sony or iPhone 14 or Samsung S whatever is the last would be fun to watch :)
I hope you'll share more of the actual working process with the ARRI once you start stretching it's legs. I will never hold an ARRI but nonetheless I hope you will share how you work on set - camera settings, aspect ratio, framing, lighting, camera movement, composition, color science, etc. Let us follow you as you venture deeper into the DP space.
I'l be going for a poor man's version of this with the new Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K when I can save enough pennies. So inspiring to have the right tools for the job. Loved this walk-through. °¬)
What kind of project will you put it to use? For what you do, sony cameras fits better. This will be a pain in the ass. Also, you're doing so much gear related videos, but id like to see more "filmaking" related videos (sure gear is a part of it), i mean more art related, scene direction, etc. Im bored by gear.
You’d need a vibranium spinal cord to handheld that without an easyrig
I've heard you have a pretty big deadlift
Haha yea it’s a liiiiiittle heavy 😂 but not insane
@@mattih next video
“Back routine for filmmakers “
@@AnthonyGugliotta I might post one day 😂
Bro , pl make a short video with this camera ,may b a vlog 😮 ,a vlog with aree Alexa, very cool , excited to see what this beast can film .. looking forward for that video..😮
You can fry your SDI Output, SDI is the last to plug with the monitor turn on if you use the same Power with the camera and monitor
Happy for you man. Please send me the camera you've stopped using. Who knowz it might be the beginning of my film career. Love from Zambia
Would be cool to know how much different a really pro lens would look like versus a budget lens in this camera
I'd love to see a "budget" L-PL lens...
@@eruannster The lens he is using is a budget lens
“I’ve never been an AC before, and I’ve only been a DP”- you
That was super informative! Thanks for the walk through.
I want " 1 " of everything and TWO of those !
This was really cool! You demystified the cinema camera for me!
Congratulations! Hopefully I get to the level you are at. I just got 2 Canon R5 systems and working on my product photography portfolio and watch some more Tin House Studio. Im experimenting with the the 3D VR lens right now.
thx for the build!
Thanks for this. Very informative and entertaining!
Love it Matti!!
thank you for this video but WHERE IS FOCUS BROOOO ?
When the Mini becomes XXL in 15 minutes lol, but the images are fantastic so it’s worth it.
So excited about you brother 😎🤙🏻
I bet that native LCD is for actors and other ppl on set who want/need to see it, but can’t crowd around your and the director’s monitors.
where is the record button?
could you please close your diaphragm to 5-8 next time?)) camera is out of focus 😢
Very nice , I'm waiting the next
Need? Probably not... I'm a professional DP and will insert my two cents here. ARRI builds a camera that integrates into a standard workflow. Any union 1st AC, Operator or Key Grip can easily rig this camera quickly. This means less heat from the AD. These cameras are also built to integrate easily with standard rental house gear. Finally about $50K of the price tag is durability. These things live in rental houses and are used daily by different crews, so they have to be built like a tank. Finally, remember that the weight of these cameras is legit. You will need good sticks, a good head, a legit job, a legit easy-rig and everything else. Came-TV crap will not work with this camera. So expect to spend $500K if you want to do it right.
If you are an indie filmmaker, buy a Blackmagic. The color science is fine and they are EASY to set up on an indie set. You can run and gun with an Ursa Mini and not come home with every muscle in your body sore. Plus you can get away with less costly support equipment.
I own a BM Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K (You don't need 12K) for my own projects and test shots. Everything else, I make the production rent from a rental house. I do this because I know my worth as a cinematographer.
They do make a camera control monitor, CCM-1 and the EVF is better then any over Evf especially the Mvf-1. Yapping
The mat box makes it a cinematic camera
Can definitely tell that rig was built by a RUclipsr 🤣
I’d love to see you FPV this one 😂
just in case I ever want to drop 200k on my RUclips camera haha
Well, on a positive note. It looks less complicated than a do-it-yourself FPV build. 😂😂😂
Fruits passion man!😁
Everyone leaves out the fact that you gotta be a whole GEARHEAD to work in camera.
Ohmy still waiting for the footage
I'll stick to my fx30. Also DZO Lenses on a 90k body? Balance seems completely off haha.
Amazing! Thank you!
No demo reel yet still buys an Arri lol
Thank you for this one.
Cool! Thanks for sharing it ✌️
Here's total noob questions ... what about sound? Also, how do you keep track of your assets on a shoot?
Don't know anything about an Arri, but in most forms of serious filmmaking, picture and sound recording are entirely separate processes, they don't come together until post-production. Audio has its own tools of the trade.
It kind of reminds me of how I find it hilarious when I shoot stuff with my friends and they've got their R5 on their RS3 Pro with external monitors and all sorts of gadgets but shooting 8-bit FHD@50mbit and I'm standing there with my X-T3 on a crappy tripod while shooting 10-bit 4K@200mb but it looks like I'm a tourist that's about to take a vacation photo haha.
Congrats! awesome investment
I'm so sorry I'm doing a play by play in the comments as I watch the video lol
Ok. Concerning the memory card. There's only so many way you can build a memory card. And none of them costs that much. Even if you factor in the cost of data recovery and shipping (for data recovery), it's still too expensive.
As for reliability, there's much better ways to have more reliable recordings.
1. Record onto multiple drives, essentially have 2 copies.
2. If you have an external recorder, record onto that too.
No matter how overbuilt a drive is, you are one step from failure if you use only one drive.
If they wanted to they could have easily made drives that were faster and more safe by having 2 or more drives in one caddy, and have the data written to all of them, and therefore be much easier to recover instead of needing to send it to a data recovery center to actually retrieve corrupted data.
Also when a drive is using common standards and is easy to repair, even if something goes wrong, you can open it up to fix it.
Also when common standards are used, stuff is much much cheaper. And nothing is more reliable than have 5 1tb drives on set that cost 2000 bucks. Instead of just 1.
Additionally you have different standards for server ssds. They could have used those instead, which are very expensive too but are atleast widely available (atleast more than the codex drives) and are much much more reliable and faster too.
For eg: the kioxia pm7r
Get used to the EVF my dude. I know you’re a monitor guy but try operating using the EVF. It is significantly better than an external LCD. Only use the LCD for settings and stuff.
Also for accesories, I’d invest in some 2-pin lemo to 2-pin lemo cables for power distro. Lemo is significantly more reliable than those shitty plastic P-taps.
P.S. That battery plate has P-tap ports on it. Much better to route from there instead of the battery so swaps are easier
I have to add “Camera AC” means Camera Assistant Camera lol. 1st AC or 2nd AC is fine. Sincerely, an experienced 1st AC lol
Peter McKinnon: Cinema Cameras aren't necessary in 2023.
Matti: Hold my beer....
Oh it’s definitely not neeeeded. For most things
@@mattih haha Happy for you bro!
Matti has ironically proved Peter's point haha
With all respect, I love you and hate you for this video...lol
Man, this was an awesome deep look into this setup. One day i will get there, hopefully.
Dang ruthlessrog that was ruthless
The real question is why did you buy it? Not that I really care, but do you really did it for making RUclips videos? Just wondering are you making a movie or documentary and that's what you bought it?
It's probably just for Tax reasons 😅 I don't think he had ever worked for someone in the last year's
He already mentioned he'll be working on bigger productions that he'll announce in due time.
@@JonackFilm Good point. I would do the same.
