When Tim hits those CRAZY LOW NOTES ... I get goose bumps like you wouldn't believe. I really like how they gave this song a little quicker and upbeat. Johnny Cash was amazing in his own right, but Home Free seems to constantly take these songs to the next step. Love them all!
4:52 haha I love how you anticipated it - that’s some good musical knowledge to recognise the pattern. And then your reaction to the note was amazing 🤣
It was a mix of a fry and a chest note, it wasn’t just the popping of the fry but not quite a growl. It’s an E1 which is the same as the subharmonic that Geoff Castellucci hits at the end of Oogie Boogie’s Song and his single blackbird
Dra-gon...breaaath! Tim! They’re all so good. Even when you called the low note, you were so amazed. Loved your reaction. But these guys pulled out all the stops on this one. Great rendition of this song.
I think it's actually chest fry that Tim does there. I do know that it sounds freakin awesome. He is so good at it and that grin on his face made it even better. The whole arrangement was amazing. Well done Home Free!💕
Tim is so good, im not even sure if he had to use a vocal fry on that note. whats crazy is, i was watching a video on instagram with him and rob and he even said that wasnt even his lowest note on a Home Free song.
Andrew Stutts ya if you raise the pitch it sounds like chest cuz it’s a consistent pitch, It actually sounds better than most of Geoff’s subharmonics if you raise the pitch. So even though it sounds a lot like chest fry the pitch is so on tune that either it’s just godly chest fry or it’s just loud chest 😂
@@jmbmusic1 ?? It's possible he could, there are singers who can sing an E1 in chest, he might already be able to, if not, he will in the future if he keeps practicing
I'm so late, but I LOVE not just this song but also what you mention at 3:30! Yes, this must have been an intentional move on their part to put all those shadows on Tim. Even his background is darker. I love it because he's the only one with lyrics talking about actually being glad he could just kill some for the heck of it. We don't know about the others. They could have been innocent, guilty of minor infractions, or remorseful. That grin by Tim just throws out the remorseful option in my eyes😂 That and his deep notes just make him seem so threatening and I love it for this. Someone mentioned them wanting to see Home Free, this scenario, in a movie and I second it strongly. I would love seeing each of them try these roles out and Evil Tim would be so fun

I think you are remembering "A Boy named Sue" by Johnny Cash Where he grew up named Sue and finally found his dad, then got into a major fight with him.
Cash wrote this after watching a documentary inside walls of Folsom county prison it actually turned his life around. And Adam gun reloading sound is the bomb everyone misses that and the Choo choo train
This was from Johnny Cashes "Folsom Prison Blues". Johnny actually spent time IN Folsom Prison, California, and went back to the prison and sang this song there. This song was one that helped start the "Rock-a-Billy" movement in Country Music. Notice that the harmonies are slightly dissonant, representative of train whistle. the clap-clap that Adam Rupp does is reminiscent of wheels going over the splits in the track. This whole song is their interpretation of what Johnny would have liked if he could have had these guys as his back-ups. No, that wasn't a vocal fry, listen again. It was subharmonic!!!
That was a mixture of chest voice and fry. Tim has been using this technique a lot lately it sounds amazing and he can go very low using it, even lower than in this.
Yes, this definitely a Johnny Cash classic, though I must admit I'd heard of it, more than I had actually heard the song. This version sounds great, though, they've taken it and done their own version, rather than trying to copy Johnny Cash's take on it. Thank for another great reaction, I always enjoy what you have to say. You have to remember that they are still filming these separately from home, and Adam Rupp has a new baby in the house, he probably didn't have time to check with the others how they were doing their buttons. Or he was going for the psycho look with his costume as well. 😉 As for Tim, he was definitely going for scary in this one - it's amazing what some basic lighting effects will do.
The buttoned to the top is the cannibal serial killer vibe. lol The way the light made the jump suit reflect red on his lower lip made it look like his lip had blood on it, just adding to the maniac vibe I watched Blue Ain't Your Color (they were so clean cut and handsomely turned out for that) then I watched this directly after. The contrast is jarring. They are amazing how they can go from one type of character to another. Their role playing is almost as good as their musicianship.
Great reaction! Couple of things (1) that's Rob with the beard, not Earl. Earl was the bearded one in VoicePlay. (2) I believe Adam had his buttoned all the way up on purpose. and (3) you are correct, this is slowed down about 10bpm from Johnny Cash's version.
“Oh, no. Don’t do this to me, Tim. Please!”
I’m calling BS. You know perfectly well that’s half the reason you watch Home Free!

Lyrics
I hear the train a comin'
It's rollin' 'round the bend,
And I ain't seen the sunshine
Since, I don't know when
I'm stuck in Folsom Prison
And time keeps draggin' on
But that train keeps a-rollin'
On down to San Antone
When I was just a baby
My Mama told me, "Son
Always be a good boy
Don't ever play with guns,"
But I shot a man in Reno
Just to watch him die
When I hear that whistle blowin'
I hang my head and cry
I bet there's rich folks eatin'
In a fancy dining car
They're probably drinkin' coffee
And smokin' big cigars
But I know I had it comin'
I know I can't be free
But those people keep a-movin'
And that's what tortures me
Well, if they freed me from this prison
If that railroad train was mine
I bet I'd move out over a little
Farther down the line
Far from Folsom Prison
That's where I want to stay
And I'd let that lonesome whistle
Blow my blues away

This whole song is their interpretation of what Johnny would have liked if he could have had these guys as his back-ups. No, that wasn't a vocal fry, listen again. It was subharmonic!!!
TimHas vocal range that is totally amazing he can go as high as high tenor to a lo almost godly base
I love this! Now I wanna hear Tim and Chance sing blues
Tim also didnt shave either and Adam had a MAD case of bedhead.
Adam had to close that top button to hide the drum kit he keeps in his windpipe!
Adam was wearing an onesie while others had overalls! His character was in a different facility :D Absolutely loved his maniac approach!
You had a great reaction to this! That was funny😊
Dang it I got it mixed up! How embarrassing!
@@whatitdodave You were excited and in the moment. 🙂 It happens.
Of course Adam was buttoned up on purpose. He’s trying to hide the drum kit he keeps in his windpipe!
Oh Hell Yes! Y'all this is fire. The best version of this song ever. Did not think anyone could kill a Johnny Cash song.....but Jazus. Dayam!!!
The bearded one is Rob, Earl used to sing with Voiceplay.
Bruh, you hit that fry note on the dot lmao. If you just practiced that note with you mouth wider, you'd nail it lol
