Home Free started in 2000 and was the vision of Chris Rupp, so he and Adam started the group and have been performing professionally since early 2000s. They won season 4 of The Sing Off and have only had one member change since then. Chris left in 2016 and was replaced by Adam Chance (Chance). Adam learned drumming so he could be more authentic. The a cappella world changed with the beatboxing... Voice Play is great; they're very theatrical. Pentatonix also won the season before and has a much more pop flavor. If you want to work on your bass, which you do quite well, Tim says you work on the high notes along with the low ones to improve your bass. I think he has a class out there somewhere. Love your reactions... can't go wrong with Home Free. There's a video called 9 to 5 Breakdown which is awesome...they all beatbox...not the official video, but the concert performance.

I love this! One of my favorites. This was during Covid so they weren’t even together and yeah the heights are all messed up. Rob isn’t 6’8” but 6’4”. The others are between 6’1 1/2” to 6’3”. Yes, I thought a lot of the sounds were train related, like the train whistle, wheels, smoke puff sounds?? It’s so clever. Yeah Tim can go really low. We think Tim did the crime, Adam (beatboxer) belongs in the insane asylum and the others are accomplices. Haha. Yes, you definitely have a bass voice, so does Tim. He says to practice your higher ranges to get lower. At least that’s what I heard. He’s helped Geoff of VoicePlay and Avi Kaplan formerly of Pentatonix go lower. Good reaction Anthony!🥰

On January 13th, 1968, Johnny Cash made history by recording a live album inside of California’s Folsom State Prison. The album, "At Folsom Prison" revitalized Cash’s career. But why did Cash decide to play two live shows at Folsom Prison?
The song that started the prison obsession for Cash was his own “Folsom Prison Blues.” Written in 1953 while serving in Germany with the US Air Force, it was inspired by the 1951 film, 'Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison'. 2 years later, Cash recorded the song for the Sun Records label in Memphis. It became one of Cash’s signature songs, and had one of the most iconic lines in country music history; “But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.” (Cash stated in an interview that he tried to think of the craziest thing to put in the song came up with the line).
'At Folsom Prison' was released in May, 1968. The single, “Folsom Prison Blues,” hit the Billboard Hot 100 on May 25th, and the Billboard Country Charts a week later. It was re-released & an instant success peaking at #1 on the country charts, breaking into the mainstream Top 40. The album followed suit, hitting number #1 the Top Country charts & #13 on the Pop Album Charts. It was certified gold in October.
'At Folsom Prison' won 2 GRAMMY awards for Cash. His 2nd and 3rd respectively. Also won for Best Album Notes (documented by LA Times writer Robert Hilburn, and photographer Jim Marshall), along with Best Country Vocal Performance, Male for 'Folsom Prison Blues.'
'At Folsom Prison' has been acknowledged by Rolling Stone, Blender, Time, and Country Music Television as one of the greatest albums of all time. After achieving triple platinum status from the RIAA in 2003, the Library of Congress chose it for addition to the National Recording Registry. It would seem to all who heard it, that Johnny Cash’s decision to record live at Folsom Prison had paid off.
    Regarding Home Free's video:
This was either the first collaboration or one of the first done remotely due to Covid as they live in different states (Tim & Austin Nashville; Adam Rupp & Robb Lunquist Minnesota; Adam Chance Los Angeles). They did their own individual video/doing the lighting/makeup/lip syncing & sent them in to get masterfully done to become the joint video.
    Notice if hadn't:
    - Height Chart
The height charts, are all over the place & changing throughout.
(Are any of them really 4'6" or 6'8"?)
    -Appearances
Rob & Austin seemed to be in for a 'misdemeanor' crime as they're dancing & seem relaxed
Tim & Chance seem to be doing serious time? Seem more serious less movement
    Rupp seems crazy
    - Jumpsuits
    Some loose, others tight
    (Adam's looks like it's a onesie for a baby)
    - Tim AND Chance
BOTH sound a lot like Johnny Cash in this video
    - Tim
Makeup & (he stopped dying his hair) gave a drastic look to give ghoulish hollowed evil look
Additionally, think one of first videos & started keeping hair natural
    ---Low Note wicked
Tim hits the last low note, he has a devilish grin while doing it
    - Rupp (beat boxer)
He was acting like a crazy man throughout (walking all over the cell while everyone else is staying in place)
    *Percussion
    IT'S NOT STANDARD PERCUSSION THROUGHOUT!
YOU'LL HEAR IT if go back & listen
    - There's a sound of Adam prepping a shotgun! (Will see him cocking it if looked at it, not realizing he's making the legit noise)
    - He's NOT doing high hat rims, it's the actual sounds of a train riding on railroad tracks plus periodically the clinking noise going over the metal connectors listen to this, then replay the song you'll hear it!:
    ruclips.net/video/aeuLArBAiFI/видео.html
    -WHY trains?
They're purposely using the sounds as Johnny Cash was known for 'prison/railroad songs'
    Railroad songs?
Cash stated when growing up heard the trains in the distance daydreamed ability to go wherever to follow dreams. Same reasoning those in prison could hear the train & think could take them away. Hence railroad songs.

    -Arrangement
Only Tim & Chance are sounding country doing the melody.
The rest are doing more of a jazz style arrangement. The tenor duo is the one putting a modern response twist as well as using jazz chords.

I do consider Adam more of a vocal percussionist because of his amazing replication of drumming what an actual drummer would do. He can, of course, do beatboxing style effects.

As I understand it, Adam took drum lessons to help him better understand how a drummer would compose his parts. He studied trumpet in college, so he has an actual music degree.

LOL. They didn't all pay attention to where the height was in comparison to the markings on the "sheet" or whatever they were using. I've seen them live. They're all over 6 feet tall but probably not more than 6'5"ish?
Great bass from you as well, btw. A great extended low low bass note from Tim occurs as the final note in their cover of "Ring of Fire" with Avi Kaplan. Their first experience with 2 basses, which makes for an easier bass sub when Tim takes lead which, as you know, he does quite often. I like to think it influenced them a little when they were replacing their baritone into choosing a former bass in Adam Chance.

If you want low bass singing lessons, Geoff Castelluci has a couple of videos on his channel where he talks about how he trained his voice to go lower. Good luck with it!

Sadly Geoff only uses subharmonics which many bass singers are not a fan of. Sounds too much like burping low.

they are all about 6'2". one of them once announced his height, and when you watch them on stage, you can see that they line up pretty well. it's actually very effective as a device for wowing the audience. when they all step forward, there's no one shorter or taller to ruin the effect. thanks for the great reaction.

The next step in your Home Free journey should be to listen to one of their amazing collaborations. I suggest your listen to American Pie. Don McLean the author specifically choose Home Free to record the 50th anniversary version of his famous 70's classic. It will bring a mile wide smile to your face. The vocal arrangements are mind blowing. At the other end of the spectrum One Voice with Billy Gilman is one of the most emotional and saddest songs I have ever heard.

You absolutely have to listen to there sing off version vs newer version they did of Johny Cash's Ring of fire. Epic. Tims low base did what some called a soic sub-woofer black out. In the newer version with guest singer Avi Kaplin (former Pentatonix) Avi tips his hat to Tims low notes. G1 is a bottom note for sure. Blow your sound system stuff.
